Some time ago, there was a very interesting topic about literature and recommendations of books related with cute males.
Can we start a thread about this again? I want to read something but I have no ideas.

Howl's Moving Castle was originally a book and Howl is much more vain and amusing in it. I think it's worth a read.

I highly recommend Mind Fuck and the whole Administration Series by Manna Francis.
I love those books: dystopian future, interesting complex characters, hot, hot, very hot ,although bdsm, sex. I reread several times.
Although it may be too hardcore for /cm/

The author sounds like an early version of fujoshi.
    The plot seems....alluring AND overbearing.
Also, it doesn't help that I have a mild Persian/Arab guys fetish.

Should I go ahead and spend my bucks on this one?

Carnivorous Lamb. Gay incestious brothers in Spain. It's not just about their love; it's political, but first and foremost a romance, slightly smutty too.

I guess it's just pulp fantasy, but I enjoyed the Legend of Nightfall, and I'm reading the sequel now. The main character is badass-but-battered oyaji moe that is described as looking younger and less strong than he is. There's both bromance and hetmance, it's good.

I read the first book of the Bartimaeus trilogy after it was recommended on one of these threads, and even though it's more of a teen book there's a pretty decent amount of homolust in it from the main character. I thought it was alright and I might as well check out the rest since I finished the first one in two days.

Also I heard there's a visual novel, what's up with that?

Thank you! You don't know how long I've been looking for this one.

And finally I've never seen this book mentioned before but it does have a Pakastani 'silent' drill squad and a homosexual protagonist, which is pretty damn rare for its genre and setting, though that takes a back seat in respect to the plot most of the time.

I'm a big fan of Poppy Z. Brite, I'd reccommend her if you like your /cm/ with a side of creepy.

Lost Souls is her most popular book, it's about two bros for life (pic related) in a band that have some less than pleasant encounters of the vampire kind. The writing is excellent and my summary does not do it justice in the least.

Exquisite Corpse is a personal favorite, a what-if scenario of when two murderers cross paths. Also, a twisted love story.

Drawing Blood is what I consider to be her best written novel, it also has some characters from Lost Souls making cameos. Ripping the synopsis from wiki. The novel concerns Trevor McGee, a comic book artist and sole survivor of a family murder-suicide, and Zachary Bosch, a bisexual hacker.
    >> Anonymous 07/29/11(Fri)16:55 No.2631383
    >>2631326
Drawing Blood is my favourite, too. Brite manages to create a lot of vivid moments, but I remember this book especially clear. The deserted house, the streets which Trevor and Zach explore while tripping... A very strong athmospheric images (or I have too lively imagination). And doesn't this book has a southern gothic theme?
I haven't read her other books because at the moment they weren't translated to my language, and I wasn't so fluent in English. I think I'm going to try Lazarus Heart and Soul Kitchen as well.

'In the Company of Shadows' - this was mentioned on a thread exactly like this and it has brought me so much enjoyment I just had to get it out there again. I think of this as slotting between fanfiction and novels in terms of writing style, but it's a completely original series of stories. Here is the summary from the site:

"In the Company of Shadows is a series about two people who are thrown together as partners in a secret agency; their mission is to disband rebels who have propagated in a post-war future, but they have to deal with everything that comes with an unlikely partnership as well."

There's homoerotic tension and gay relationships, if you're into that, but that's not the point of the series at all - rather, it's a very touching story about finding your humanity in a difficult world. It's incredibly action packed, but balanced with very tender moments. Seriously, check it out. I had a brilliant summer last year reading this...

Okay the rec that I have is nothing like the books recommended here. It's more like teen fiction and it's the first part of a trilogy but the protagonist is described as very beautiful AND intelligent . It's also a cyber-thriller and written for teens, but I assure it's a very engaging read, so please do give it a try.

Here's a summary of the book from wiki: Evil Genius follows the life of Cadel Piggot as he develops a sense of right and wrong. Because Cadel is a genius, his morality has significant consequences for those around him, and ultimately his use of his intellect destroys his surroundings until, at the last minute, he is saved by a moral code instilled in him by his relationship with a girl named Sonja Pirovic suffering from cerebral palsy (although he does not know this or her name at first).

His quest for moral direction is complicated by Phineas Darkkon, an evil genius of sorts whom he believes to be his father, and Thaddeus Roth, his psychologist (who the police identify as Prosper English, a notorious criminal and right hand man of Dr. Darkkon) who later claims to be his father.

He also meets a number of other 'talented' people at the Axis Institute, which is the university Thaddeus and Phineas created for him to hone his criminal skills. His specialty is IT and hacking.

Yeah I agree--I thought it was gonna be more exciting what with the assassination attempts and all, but nothing really that exciting ever panned out.

Well at least we got to see Cadel crossdress in all three books.
I also grew a strange fascination with Prosper English--I actually shipped him with Cadel until the end of Genius Wars--then I felt I got trolled hard lol.

Havemercy and the sequel Shadow Magic are very good if you like bl romance and action. Set in a magic fantasy world with mecha dragons, fuck yeah. Each book focuses on 2-3 couples of males taking part of the bigger story; who's relationships vary between actual gay to just homolust or bromance. It's far from literature but I thoroughly enjoyed The Traitor Game by B.R. Collins. Tons of homosexual references.

It alternates between the real world and these two boy's fantasy world that they spent all this time working on creating together. The concept of highschool boys taking their imagination so seriously may deter some people, but anyone who's ever roleplayed could completely understand.

    Here's some copypasta.
    >Michael, 15, was bullied unmercifully in his old school and expects the same treatment in his new one. Unable to voice his fears, he retreats into an imaginary medieval world called Evgard, which he has created down to the last meticulous detail. When he meets fellow student Francis, he can't believe the boy is equally fascinated by Evgard and wants to participate in the fantasy game. But when Michael thinks that Francis has betrayed him and exposed their secret world to ridicule, he retaliates with catastrophic results.

There's a huge frustrating thing that results of not being able to man up and speak, and the drama may seem a bit petty, but the whole book really just captured me.

The Evgard chapters have characters that reflect the two boys and watching their relationship was really... sweet. The way the Evgard world changes to also reflect things that happen to Michael in the real world is quite nice, and the way things come full circle leaves you pretty satisfied.

I can't think of any book off the top of my head that are set in older times besides medieval fantasies/fairy tales with handsome princes, so here are some set in 1800-1900's I liked:

    The Impressionist
    >The antihero of The Impressionist, Hari Kunzru's daringly ambitious first novel, is half English and half Indian. In the Raj of the 1920s, the racial and social divides are enormous, but Pran Nath is able to bridge them, crossing from one side to another in a series of reinventions of his own personality. He begins as the spoiled child of an Indian lawyer, but circumstances thrust him out of his pampered adolescence into the teeming and dangerous life of the streets. After a bewildering period as one of the pawns in Machiavellian political and sexual scheming in the decadent court of a minor Maharajah, he escapes to Bombay. There he is taken up by a half-demented Scottish missionary and his wife, but Pran Nath prefers to slope off to the city's red-light district whenever he can. During a time of riot and bloodshed, the chance of re-creating himself as an English schoolboy destined for public school and Oxford presents itself, and he takes it. But this is not his final transformation.

Basically the mc is a handsome youth, has to adapt to whatever shit life throws at him. and even crossdresses at one point for a creeper. There's a very strange ending to the book.

    Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
    >The drawing room social comedies of early 19th-century Britain are infused with the powerful forces of English folklore and fantasy in this extraordinary novel of two magicians who attempt to restore English magic in the age of Napoleon. In Clarke's world, gentlemen scholars pore over the magical history of England, which is dominated by the Raven King, a human who mastered magic from the lands of faerie. The study is purely theoretical until Mr. Norrell, a reclusive, mistrustful bookworm, reveals that he is capable of producing magic and becomes the toast of London society, while an impetuous young aristocrat named Jonathan Strange tumbles into the practice, too, and finds himself quickly mastering it. Though irritated by the reticent Norrell, Strange becomes the magician's first pupil, and the British government is soon using their skills. Mr. Strange serves under Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars (in a series of wonderful historical scenes), but afterward the younger magician finds himself unable to accept Norrell's restrictive views of magic's proper place and sets out to create a new age of magic by himself.

A quaint, humorous writing style. I love the characters, I was sad when the book was finished.

    The Picture of Dorian Gray
    >The novel tells of a young man named Dorian Gray, the subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Basil is impressed by Dorian's beauty and becomes infatuated with him, believing his beauty is responsible for a new mode in his art. Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, a friend of Basil's, and becomes enthralled by Lord Henry's world view. Espousing a new hedonism, Lord Henry suggests the only things worth pursuing in life are beauty and fulfillment of the senses. Realizing that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian (whimsically) expresses a desire to sell his soul to ensure the portrait Basil has painted would age rather than himself. Dorian's wish is fulfilled, plunging him into debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging

I highly recommend Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman. It's probably my favorite BL-centric book. It's beautifully written, set in Italy, full of pent up passion and romance that does eventually get fulfilled (to a point). Though from what I remember, I got pretty angry at one of the character's actions/attitude at times and the ending was rather sad in my opinion. but it was still a wonderful book.

I think I might just go out and buy it. I read an insert of it online, it caught my attention pretty fast for what little they had up to read. Oh, jw, but since this has been recommended on this thread, is there any BL in it? It seems unlikely, but I thought I'd ask.

A Separate Peace by John Knowles.
Gaygaygaygaygay. It's all subtext, but there's some intense homo here. It's also a literary classic.
Also literary classic full of faggotry is Gilgamesh. When we read it in sophomore year, we spent three blocks talking about (I quote this) "Love between men". Best week of english class ever.

Thank you all for the recommendations.

"Geography Club" by Brent Hartinger. Boy struggles with his homosexuality at school, realises he's not alone and they make a club that nobody would want to join so they can feel less alone.

Also the first "Only the Ring Finger Knows" book. The second has one /y/ moment and I forget if the third does but definitely a top series. The manga only covers the first half of the first book.
Another manga by the same author, Satoru Kannagi (different artist, mind) is "Rin!" which I suggest. Haven't got volume 3 yet so I don't know if there's /y/. Considering the cliches she uses (uses well though) I'd say yes, yes there will be.

I've also added a lot of the suggestions here onto my list so thanks.

Someone said they wanted a dystopian setting, I think this might stretch for that. It's set in a post-apocalyptic america that has been stricken by climate change that causes it to almost always be winter. The love story is so very, very charming; I can't do it justice.

The Nightlife series by Rob Thurman is filled with brotherly homolust/more then just bromance, and is a very good series all together.

I'm not good at describing book, so I'll just copy and paste this here.

There are monsters among us. There always have been and there always will be. I’ve known that since I can remember, just like I’ve always known I was one…

    …Well, half of one, anyway.
Welcome to the Big Apple. There’s a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side – and that’s only the beginning. Of course, most humans are oblivious to the preternatural nightlife around them, but Cal Leandros is only half human.

His father’s dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares – and he and his entire otherworldly race are after Cal. Why? Cal hasn’t exactly wanted to stick around long enough to find out.

He and his half brother, Niko, have managed to stay a step ahead for four years, but now Cal’s dad has found them again. And Cal is about to learn why they want him, why they’ve always wanted him: He is the key to unleashing their hell on earth. The fate of the human world will be decided in the fight of Cal’s life

If you're interested, I can link to the first chapter.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay has some bromance between cousins, and some actual romance between one of the cousins and the man who he falls in love with. Basically, one cousin escapes from Europe to America in the late 1930s, and the two of them create a comic book together. Of course, since this is set around WWII, the creation of the Comics Code Authority, and general early 20th-century homophobia, bad things happen to our heroes.

It's a good book, but sad. And you might want to keep a dictionary handy for it.

That book. That book is the only book that has ever made me cry. And not just "a single tear of sorrow runs down my cheek" but actual, snot streaking waterfall of tears. AND I KNEW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. THE ENTIRE BOOK. I wailed like a little bitch and I treasured it.

Also, Kolya? First fictional character I've actually had a crush on beyond the typical "so cool" bit. Y'know. Actual crush. Embarassing, I know, but... It's just a wonderful book.

I'm afraid to read it again.

    OKAY. My own recommondation. Hmm.

Rant and Invisable Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. I love him. He's like some love child of Quentin Tarentino and Charles Bukowski and I adore him for it.

Rant is written oral biography style about Rant, a rabies superspreader in America.

Invisable Monsters is about a Supermodel who gets her jaw shot off and now travels the country with the man she used to love and a transsexual scamming medication off of rich people.

    Other books...
    The Liar by Stephen Fry
    Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs

T.E Lawrence Seven Pillars of Wisdom

    Dedication

    To S.A.
I loved you, so I drew these tides of men into my hands
and wrote my will across the sky in stars
To earn you Freedom, the seven-pillared worthy house,
that your eyes might be shining for me
    When we came.
Death seemed my servant on the road, till we were near
    and saw you waiting:
When you smiled, and in sorrowful envy he outran me
    and took you apart:
    Into his quietness.
Love, the way-weary, groped to your body, our brief wage
    ours for the moment
Before earth’s soft hand explored your shape, and the blind
    worms grew fat upon
    Your substance.
Men prayed me that I set our work, the inviolate house,
    as a memory of you.
But for fit monument I shattered it, unfinished: and now
The little things creep out to patch themselves hovels
    in the marred shadow
    Of your gift.

    Pic definitely related.

It's a parody on the Apocalypse, and centers around a demon and an angel who are more partners than enemies. They are just trying to stop the end of the world from happening by trying to locate the antichrist. There's a bunch of cool characters, including the Horsemen and a young witch and a scientist and whatnot- but it's a very fun smart read.

I finally got my hands on a copy of 'Edward, Edward' (the actual title is ungodly long) by Lolah Burford. I'm so excited to read it.
I discovered it through an old book on romance novels I picked up in my uni's library (I found a section on same-sex romances in it).
So from what the summary says, it takes place during the early 19th century; and there's homosexuality, S&M, and incest. Granted, I'm not much into incest, but everything else sounds solid.
I'm thrilled to finally read this and I hope it was worth all the effort it took to wrangle a copy.

Wow, this thread is still here. Anyway...

Many of Dostoevsky's works have a handsome protag, especially the previously mentioned Brothers Karamazov, even though handsome men back in old Russia had long beards most people generally don't find too attractive on youth these days. And of course, they are usually in some kind of psychological or political trouble, for those who like tragic heroes. There is a lot of male comradery/bromance too.

Right now I'm on The House of the Dead, it's mostly both cute and gruff convicts doing cute and gruff things, if you like that. The book is also a double feature with the Gambler. I haven't started it, but the summary reminds me of Kaiji.

Tag for 'Dostoevsky' for pixiv: ドストエフスキー
    'Brothers Karamazov': カラマーゾフの兄弟

Sadly most of the rest of the book titles and character names are too vague for pixiv searches and come up with other things or nothing.

I remember reading an excerpt from this book a while ago. I'm not sure if I'm remembering it right but this is what I read. John and Dave were in some hallway or something and needed to get out before something ate them and there was only one door out. Just as John got to the door the handle turned into a flaccid penis, John then turned to Dave and dramatically said "We can't go this way."

That's the kind of humor in the book, but from what I heard the boys are indeed homolusty in it. I need to pick it up for more lulz in my library.

Yeah, but it sounds like a fantasy novel, which I don't tend to care much for.

I'd like to read about magicians that don't actually have magical powers.

And speaking of Mishima there is of course Confessions of a Mask and Forbidden Colors, both have canonical homosexual themes. Confessions does not have much cuteness, it is a first person account of a young man who despises himself for his homosexuality.

Forbidden Colors plays on the same theme but is longer, with a third person narrative and includes a stunningly beautiful gay man along with a rather creepy old writer.

    >recommending the Mortal Instruments
    That's a laugh.

Anyway, the Coldfire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman is alright. Takes place on another planet called Erna, which is characterized by frequent seismic activity and a current of energy called fae. Fae is heavily influenced by the emotions and dreams of humans, often giving birth to creatures called faeborn, or in some cases, demons. These faeborn feed upon the emotions of humans. This is significantly less pleasant than it sounds, since many of those emotions aren't exactly pleasant.

Anyway, Damien Kilcannon Vryce, a priest of the One God is out to kill a group of demons that stole the ability and memory of his girlfriend, he comes across Gerald Tarrant AKA the motherfucking Hunter who sacrificed his children and wife to some really dark and powerful god-like monsters several centuries ago and has been living as a pseudo-demon feasting on fear. Damien hates the Hunter but joins up with him because he's the lesser of two evils in this case. The whole series is pretty sexually charged even if the Hunter usually preys on women, especially since Damien gives Gerald permission to generate awful nightmares in him so Gerald can feed off him. Plus Damien keeps noting how pretty and handsome Gerald is. The whole series can basically be summed up as the redemption of Gerald Tarrant as Damien attempts to redeem and humanize him.

Oh, my oh my. If someone hasn't recommended it yet, then I recommend The Vesuvius Club: A Bit of Fluff by Mark Gatiss.

I haven't read all of it myself, but so far it's amazing, it's about a British bisexual secret agent named Lucifer Box in Sherlock Era London. He's like Sherlock Holmes meets James Bond with a bit of Austin Powers, but in a bisexual way.

I don't think there is graphic sex, but it does mention it, and seeing as the line that got me into wanting to read it: "Well, what was I to do? For the well-bred gentleman there was surely only one recourse. I fucked him." I'd say are at least some sexy men in there enough to please most fans.

+1 for Death in Venice. Great exploration of love for young males, and musings on the nature of art, too. And it's a quick read. I present a quotation:

"That Cupid, indeed, does as mathematicians do, when they show dull-witted children tangible images of pure Forms: so too the Love-god, in order to make spiritual things visible, loves to use the shapes and colours of young men, turning them into instruments of Recollection by adorning them with all the reflected splendour of Beauty, so that the sight of them truly sets us on fire with pain and hope."

(Yeah I took the time to type that out.) Hit me on t.astarte@gmail.com and I'll email you an ePub of a collection of Mann containing it.

Also I'll recommend London Triptych by Jonathan Kemp. A story of three gay men in different times in London, with a fair few boys and a romance with Oscar Wilde too.

I just finished it and nearly keeled over from the hilariously twisted utter brilliance that is this work of fiction.

So, thank you kindly good sir/madam.

On another note, I recommend Selfish and Perverse by Bob Smith. Quirky, funny and down right adorkable.

Here, have a blurb from Publisher's Weekly because I can't seem to do this book justice:

Nelson Kunker, a miserably single, mid-30s unproductive novelist and Hollywood script coordinator for late night TV's Aftertaste, is burning out: endless cat-fighting at work, a boss from hell and the nagging notion that he's either really talented or just gay. Safeguarded by best friend Wendy (a gigantic lesbian), Nelson's love life finally gets a boost after a chance meeting with burly Alaskan salmon fisherman–cum–student archeologist Roy Briggs, cousin to Aftertaste's star performer Joe Benedetti. The two are immediately smitten, but Nelson gets fired for smoking marijuana with sexually ambiguous guest star Dylan Fabizak, on parole and postrehab after a drug arrest. Cut to Nelson, Roy and Dylan at Roy's home in Coffee Point, Alaska, with all the sex, danger, salmon fishing lore and sarcastic dialogue one reader could want, and an appearance from mother-hen Wendy to sort it all out. Pithy zingers (and a fair share of apparently intentional groaners), a chatty gang of likable characters, a simple yet sexy plot line and camera-ready prose combine with panache in this immensely entertaining story.

I don't think it's been mentioned so far: Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji). It's a novel from the Heian period, it follows the eponymous hero, Genji, the bastard son of the emperor. Genji is gorgeous to the point of being something of the original bishie. He gets entangled in all sorts of affairs because he has no qualms pursuing women but has a great difficulty in breaking up with them.
As a result things get very complicated for Genji whose greatest flaw is perhaps that he cannot handled being disliked by anyone.
It has moments of comedy and plenty of drama; unlike many Medieval literature it has no battles but it does contain supernatural elements with something of a twist.
It was authored by Lady Murasaki, a woman, which is rather rare at time. It offers a glimpse into the courtly culture in Japan of the 11th century with loads of pretty boys. No homosexual undertones, though.

I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned Sherlock Holmes yet except to compare something else to it. If you've not looked into them yet, I highly recommend it, and no, they are nothing like that movie with Robert Downy Jr.

My favourite book ever is not particularly homolusty, but that shouldn't stop you. I think it still has a lot of cute males. It is by E.M. Forster, the same fellow who wrote the really very homo Maurice recommended here:
    >>2633678

If you are into homoy works of legend and lore, I recommend looking into The Epic of Gilgamesh. Which aside from being an example of one of the earliest works of literature in the world, has an interesting relationship between the hero, Gilgamesh, and his best friend, Enkidu. Given the age of this work, there are a lot of somewhat conflicting sources and versions, later editions, and edits so try a few different versions. The Greeks were also pretty homolusty and liked pretty boys. I don't find them quite as interesting but with figures like Ganymede it should keep some of you entertained. Pretty much any pantheon is going to be full of good looking guys because they are generally given traits considered ideal or perfect, though what is seen as attractive is going to vary by culture.

If you enjoy children's literature, and please feel no shame in this as an adult, you should really read 'The Little Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The Moomin series by Tove Jansson is also a lot of fun. From the short stories to the comics, they are quiet a mood lifter. As a bonus, the fandom for it is fairly large and there are often threads here for it. Pixiv has thousands of works under the tag 'ムーミン' as it had multiple animated adaptions there.

I hated this book and couldn't finish it. The writing tries way too hard be witty and ends up being incredibly stupid. It's like a badly-done steampunk Dorian Grey but without the scifi or any of Oscar Wilde's intelligence, just the cartoony historical setting. The main character is completely unlikeable. Otherwise I like Mark Gatiss as an actor and TV writer, though. [My best friend who also read it says "it's just dire"]

I really hated having to read this book for English my senior year, but it is very homolusty with the right mindset.

I remembered having to write a paper in one of the characters POV, and I made them act as they appeared to me, very gay (but I made it subtle in the essay). I didn't use any quotes, which were required, but managed to get a 97 because of how well written my character was. All he did was yearn for one of the other male's attention by acting like a bitch. Hah.

I am a bit hesitant to mention this title because of a certain twist but here goes: 'Let the Right One In'. It's about a young Swedish boy who befriends a vampire, sounds corny but it is not. The horror is good and there is even canonical gay. Not for the faint of heart, though.

If you want to give the movie a go watch the original Swedish adaptation, the American remake is horrible.

One that I don't think has been mentioned yet in this thread: As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann. It's set in the 1600s during the English Revolution, so if you're into the historical stuff I'd definitely recommend it. It's a well-written book (not to mention pretty damn gay), but... The ending is aggravating and unsatisfying, and the main character isn't particularly likable. Also the author doesn't shy away from the overall unpleasantness of living in the 17th century, which can be a drawback.

Anita Blake is awful. Even the beginning books are kitschy, trashy urban fantasy novels that you might fun, but series starting from, oh, Narcissus in Chains just goes into what the fuck territory. Even before then...it's not really worth slogging through crappy books for just Asher and Jean-Claude, especially since they never have sex in the books.

Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series is alright. Takes place in standard high fantasy-land with a war going on, but the focus is more on the queen's spy/thief, Seregil, and his apprentice/lover, Alec. First book is Luck in the Shadows.

Ooh, how long I've been waiting to share this book with people who understand it's beauty. The book's An Innocent Soldier by Josef Holub and it's based in the wars with Napoleon if I remember correctly. The main character is named Adam and he ends up in the army, holding a low position then working up to be the personal hand of young lieutenant Conrad Klara. First off, the cover alone is fanservice. I couldn't find many clear pictures of it, but this is the best I found. The plot itself is interesting, sad and touching and absolutely riddled with subtext. LIKE. THE NAKED IN A DITCH, HUDDLING FOR WARMTH KIND. Not very well known since it's originally in Russian, BUT it was a very good read and I shipped the HELL out of the two.

They can be read independently, no problem. But after reading "The Persian Boy" you should definitely pick up "Funeral Games". It's amazing. Might be a bit lower on the /cm/ than her other stuff, but don't let that stop you.

Dance on my Grave, by Aidan Chambers. The main character is dealing with the death of his boyfriend, looking back at their time together, the good and the bad, and it's just incredible. Some implied sex but nothing explicit.

The Jeeves series is very charming and has overwhelming homosexual subtext. It takes place in an idyllic 1920s setting, starring the flighty, sweet Bertie and his dashingly intelligent valet (a gentleman's personal gentleman), Jeeves. It's very, very funny and an enjoyable read.

Loads of fanfiction for it, too, of a very high quality. Also produced as a show starring Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.

....Wow. I just realized that of all series not mentioned here, it was Anne Rice novels. My friend has been pushing me to read them and apparently if any of you guys saw Interview with a Vampire, the book has even MORE sexual tension than the movie. Same with the Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned (DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE). Either way, they're on my book list.

Although this usually isn't my genre, I thoroughly enjoyed Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card which has tons of cute males.

If you're the type to see homolust in Lord of the Flies, then you will probably enjoy this one: the highlight being naked wrestling in the shower room.

If you're going to read Ender's Game, get it from the library. Do NOT give the author ANY money. He's a homophobic douchebag and the Ender's series is the only good thing he's ever written. His most recent book is a rewriting of Hamlet where Hamlet's dad molested every male in the book and made them all gay.

Man, I haven't come here in SO long, and the first thread I see makes me regret every day spent away.

Okay, my personal recommendation is The Perks of being a Wallflower. It's not really about teh gay, but it has one gay side character who I absolutely BLED for, and the whole book is so beautiful I would recommend it to anyone.

And Hero's Torch and Schadenfreude by thenineteen. These carry some warnings, they include BDSM at the mildest, and /d/ + guro type material at the strongest, but they're such beautiful, intense, incredible stories I think a rec would be obligatory on a thread like this. You can find them on gurochan's lit archives without too much trouble.

Massive thanks to the guy who posted the mediafire link earlier. I made a list of all the titles mentioned in this thread as well as a whole bunch of stuff from two lit threads from last year, in pic form because I'm too lazy to upload, though I don't know how many of the old links are still live. Anyway, enjoy

Finding which of the Jeeves books to buy is a bit confusing though, doesn't seem as commonly compiled as Sherlock Holmes or such. Can anyone tell me which one to start with? And maybe which of the full novels are favorites in the series, if they all aren't important to a chronilogical timeline?

If you enjoyed Ender's Game, you might try the other story set in the same universe and timeframe, Ender's Shadow. It's not a sequel or prequel per-se but it follows the character of Bean from the original book and tells the rest of the story from his POV. I quite liked it.

Latter Days. I have yet to read the book but the movie adaptation was very good, odds are the original is better.
It's about a young gay Mormon missionary who falls for an out of the closet pretty boy. There is plenty of angst, lust and the story is very believable and moving.
It was based on the author's experience, too.
