I fucking hate people who don't eat anything. My girlfriends sister is so fucking picky.

We took her to a japanese-fusion restaurant for lunch. We started with some salmon-nigiri. She took a bite of 1/4 of a roll, said it was the most disgusting thing, made a ton of drama, and spit it out. Then we had some chicken lettuce wraps, that she refused to eat because there were bean sprouts in the chicken.

Then, we had some seared rare tuna tacos, but the tuna was "gross" and she won't eat guacamole.
So we had to get her fucking burger king after I dropped 50$ on sushi and quality-tuna (we had some other stuff too that she didn't eat).

All fucking day she eats sugar cereal, boxed mac n cheese ( I made smoked gouda bechamel and baked it with breadcrumbs and noodles mac n cheese, fucking god tier, but she prefers powdered cheese), frozen cheese pizzas dipped in ranch (we took her to a woodfire oven and got a housemade sausage, roasted tomato, and ciopollini pizza...again god tier, but she refused to eat it), and shit like that. It makes me fucking rage.

But heres the kicker: She is going to europe for a 3 month-study semester on the mediterranean, but she doesn't eat fish. She won't go near a caper, no peppers, onions, anything.

I always ask her if shes going to be dramating and spit out a home-cooked fish picatta dish or something, and she never really answers.

Sorry to fucking rage. Share picky eater stories.

Going out of our way to accommodate my friend's vegetarian girlfriend drove me fucking crazy.

    Stupid annoying bitch.

I thought I was a picky eater growing up, but it turns out my mom's cooking was just terrible. Friends now confide to me horror stories of being tricked into eating dinner at my place.

I do have this unfortunate habit of making sure none of my food touches though. I fucking hate it when my plain rice touches curry or something. My boyfriend mocks me, but if mixed food was actually good it would always be served as a tossed mess on a plate.

I know plenty of people like this, and what makes it worse is that if they think what they're eating is something else they love it.

I was at a wedding a few years ago with a pretty large buffet. One of the dishes was a caviar soup, and a friend of mine that claims to loathe caviar thought it was wedding soup, and that the "meatballs" were delicious.

When I told her what it was she ran to the bathroom and vomited despite finding it delicious when she thought it was beef.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/10(Sat)16:03 No.2217488
I really don't mind picky eaters if they don't make a huge deal of it. Some people just aren't into food enough to try to widen their tastes.

I think the worst thing I've ever had that's called 'candy' is either double salted licorice or humbugs.

Least favorite common candy is anything marshmallow based, like peeps.

I think, it is a honorable thought to see humans and other animals on one level. But still, does this imply to be a vegetarian?
Plants are just lifeforms too. The only difference is that they are able to do photosynthesis.

I don't really know why people call eggs "healthy".

They contain very little protein (6 g. per egg) which isn't really comparable to the protein found in meat or soy (in the amino acid proportions). The yolk has some essential fatty acids (three of them but even then it's relatively low compared to say, fish.

I'm really looking into eggs because I need to find sources for certain fatty acids if I want to continue to upkeep my vegan/vegetarian diet, but in all honesty eggs aren't a "healthy" choice.

Hey /ck/, I'm living in an apartment this year with no meal plan, and I really would like to learn how to cook. I've always wanted to but never really had free reign over a kitchen until now. Any good books/sites/tips for a beginning /ck/ that wants to make damn good food? Also, bonus points if low carb or cheap. Thanks!
    >> Anonymous 09/11/10(Sat)15:58 No.2217480
Simple meal would be steamed/boiled veggies plus some sort of protein. I went to Sam's Club today and a 22 lb bag of chicken breasts was $20. Some here will say to buy just the whole chicken, which I agree with if you have the space/time to butcher it yourself. As for veggies, I bought a huge bag of broccoli for less than $7.

    Low carb breakfast: eggs.

Lunch? Salad. I bought a week's worth of spinach for $3 and I bought some tuna packets for like $1 each.

so one year ago i set out to educate myself about whisky.

i bought a new bottle every week or two for most of a year. Tried all kinds of stuff - corn, rye, barley, blends, singles, american, canadian, scotch, irish, japanese, top shelf, rotgut, and so on.

you know what my conclusion is?

scotch sucks ass. i'm not even trolling.

a drink that is defined by smokiness/peatiness can't make up for the fact that a large part of its palate character is essentially bile-y bitterness.

bourbon, on the other hand, has none of that terrible backwash taste, remaining enjoyable from nose to finish.

    scotch sucks. bourbon is awesome.

    that is all.

eagle brand bourbon is pretty good for shooting/sipping, bit hard to find for anyone trying to decide on what whiskeys to choose, go to a bar that knows its shit, if they have fewer than 50 beers for sale or their top shelf whiskey is makers mark, leave its not good enough yet

once you've found this place, just go a couple of times and sample whatever they have, a bar is an infinitely better place to try new drinks than buying a bottle yourself

dude the bars you go to sound really lame

if I want a good beer I buy it and drink it at home with friends.

the bar is for getting shit-faced and getting in a bit of trouble, not spending a premium on expensive alcohol.
