I've eaten fish and chips here in America. It wasn't restaurant-made though. Very greasy and had a very strong fish taste to it. Was not pleasant at all.

There's a great fish and chips place in Seattle on Pike, in the same building as Neumos. I think it's called the Pike Street Fish Fry, and they have the best F&C in the city, IMHO.

Also, for the record: Chips and french fries are different ways of cutting up and frying potatoes. Fries are the skinny crispy variety, while chips are the chunky, fluffy-on-the-inside motherfuckers. Give me a portion of chips any day.

I'm an Amerifag, located in Wisconsin. Friday Fish Fry is a big thing in this state. (huge catholic population).

You can find places that actually make British style fish n chips, fresh and good for decent prices. Also lots of bad, processed, flash froze,n deep fried badness.

A local eatery here has put fish and chips on the menu. The waitress leaves a bottle of malt vinegar on the table and explains that it and salt goes on the "chips."

I do see salt and vinegar potato chips at the store and now I know where that flavor came from.

There's an H. Salt Fish and Chips near me and it is pretty great.
My mom's first job was at an H. Salt. She can't stand fish and chips anymore

A note though, a few of our American friends came over to England last month and they loved fish and chips. :3 (though they did prefer restaurant less greasy variety to fish and chip shop food).

I went to this top notch restaurant somewhere in Rhode Island, the way they fried the fish was fucking amazing. Definitely the best fish I've ever had, but they served the fucker with sweet potato "chips" which didn't really go well with the fish.

London wouldn't be the best place to get it, coastal town is what you want.

If there's a strong fish taste, they're doing it wrong. It should only be done with mild white fish. Ideally cod or haddock, sometimes Hoke (as cod's expensive due to fishing restrictions)
