How many Americans/Non-British on here have ever had fish & chips?
    >> Anonymous 12/31/08(Wed)15:19 No.747447
American here, I've seen/had it at plenty of restaurants here. Best I've had was at a small place in London, though.

I was not impressed with the fish and chips in London. Of course, I had it at some joint in Kensington which is maybe not the best area of London for fish and chips.

I've eaten fish & chips probably at a couple dozen or so pubs mostly in and around London.

The best fish & chips I ever ate was at Harrod's.

I make a mighty fine version myself here in the states. But it doesn't taste nearly as good if you're not eating it in England.

I've eaten fish and chips here in America. It wasn't restaurant-made though. Very greasy and had a very strong fish taste to it. Was not pleasant at all.

A lot of restaurants serve it around here, is it worth trying again?

If you want something somewhat cheap to go with your incredibly expensive beer at Gordon Biersch you go with the fish & chips.

Garlic fries are strong and more than many can handle.

If there's a strong fish taste, they're doing it wrong. It should only be done with mild white fish. Ideally cod or haddock, sometimes Hoke (as cod's expensive due to fishing restrictions)
