On Sunday we rolled out new HTML for 4chan's imageboards. The new code validates HTML5/CSS3, the design should appear exactly the same, pages should load slightly faster (especially long threads), and extension/user script/archive developers should have a much easier job parsing our pages. This is the first time in approximately ten years that it has been updated.

If you are using an extension or app that has not been updated for the changes, some features may not work—you will need to wait for the developer to update their extension/app to be compatible with the new HTML. If you haven't downloaded it already, try the Official 4chan Chrome Extension.

The most significant changes with the new HTML are a new mobile-optimized layout for phones, and inline extension features. Check them out by clicking [Settings] in the upper-right (make sure you don't select features that conflict with those from an extension though), or visit 4chan from your phone!

We are still working through a few bugs with the new code. Please report any bugs you find to newhtml@4chan.org.

ITT: Fast food secrets
So i've worked at a few restaurants in my time. Figure i'd give you some of the 'inside' shit that goes on, in case you didn't know.

Burger King -
- Cini-minis are pre-made a week in advance. They sit there in boxes beneath the fry bin. They're microwaved to look fresh when they're ordered.
- Chili is made with old or burnt whopper meat
- The grease is rotated. The fries get the freshest, and the chicken and fish gets the oldest, blackest grease.
- Whoppers start out as frozen patties this thin

The "nacho cheese" you get with nachos and other dishes?
Ya, there's no cheese in it, it comes in frozen blocks, and we melt it at the beginning of the month, and use the same batch for the entire month.

i work at an independent living retirement home

the food is about on par with places like mimis cafe or marie calendars. we feed 120 people 3 meals a day with 5 or 6 different choices, we rarely cater to special diets, besides low/no sugar choices for desserts. We also keep a coffee bar stocked with fresh made pastries and cookies. Other than sometimes just rinsing off a knife instead of sanitizing it between vegetables (with meats we always sanitize) we stick to health code. The soup (served with dinner meal) is usually made with leftovers fromt he last few days if we can incorporate them into it. 90% of the meals are from scratch. the other 10% is frozen vegetables or canned fruit.

Not a big one but when the buffalo chicken pizza came out for the very first time (i guess around 05-06?) i remember people calling in and complaining that they got violently ill after eating it. About a week after that i come in to work and ALL the ingredients to make them are gone. I asked my boy what happened and he said he doesn't know, a guy from corporate came in and the next thing he know the manager comes from the back office and tells him to throw it all in the dumpster. We got new ingredients for it a month later or so. Im not sure if this was my local hut or a problem nationwide with a supplier.

I work at Subway

-The "Pizza Sub" being advertised this month is just a Spicy Italian with half the meat (Double pepperoni, no salami). You can get double the meat by ordering a Spicy Italian with ALL pepperoni and ask for marinara sauce. Same price.

-The food isn't all fresh, often times, prep is done DAYS in advance. It's the worst if you go first thing in the morning.

-If you toast your sub, have the employee heat the meat first, then toast it. The meat is usually cold in the middle if you don't do it this way. And doesn't reach 160 degrees like it should (I get grossed out by that).

-The vegetables are all free. Subway is not allowed to charge you for extra vegetables at all, BUT they do train employees to go very light. So if you want more ask for more! If it's still not enough, ask again! Yes you may get an eye roll, but at least you get what you pay for.

-If you pay with a credit card, on the bottom of the receipt is the website where you can take a 1 minute survey, and get a free cookie (good for people who frequent Subway) and there is no limit (get a free cookie for each visit). This also gives you a chance to give feedback about your experience.

-Don't be afraid to ask people to change their gloves/wash their hands. Subway is the worst when it comes to cross contamination, and when busy, your food may not be the cleanest. If you get attitude, take the aforementioned survey. Often, the owner/manager will offer you free food for being inconvenienced, PLUS you don't have to worry about bad food because you can watch them.

I worked at a Dairy Queen in high school.

So the older soft serve machines at Dairy Queen, and possibly the newer ones too, are fed soft serve mix from the walk-in refrigerator via hoses that extend several feet from the machines and into the refrigerator.

The lines are drained at the end of every night. Ideally, they would also be extensively flushed with detergent, water, and disinfectant every night.

You think they flush those lines every night? Hoses, sitting at room temperature overnight, filled with dairy residue?

Maybe they do. But not at the Dairy Queen I worked at. I only saw them flush the lines once, at my own personal request. The shit that came out was absolutely disgusting.

Enjoy your blizzard.

>The vegetables are all free. Subway is not allowed to charge you for extra vegetables at all

Fellow Subway shartist, here. This is true, we have no way to ring up extra veggies. We ARE, however, allowed to refuse to put more on it. You can't just come in and clear us out of all of our olives - we WILL tell you to get out of the store.

This has happened on several occasions. Some people just expect everything for nothing. I had one young woman tell me to shake pepper on her sandwich until she told me to stop. After 45 seconds, I just put it down. When she complained, I told her to leave.

Store and regional managers don't want complaints, but they'd also rather not see food costs go soaring through the roof.

tl;dr - Be nice, and we'll give you extra anything and everything, within reason.
>>
>>3619565
Whats working at subway like?

Some guy told me to always get the shredded cheese because you always get more. Know any other shit like that?
>>
I'm a senior in high school and I work at a Whataburger.

We rarely (if ever) use gloves on the back board (where we make the burgers). Usually if the owner or manager is there, but if not no one cares.

We chop all tomatoes, onions, and lettuce in the morning (or when needed). They sit in tubs in the walk-in refrigerator until we need to get hotel-pans of them for the back board. After a while the lettuce on the bottom of the big pan gets slimy and we won't replace it until absolutely necessary.

Extra veggies are always free.

On the register, when you order something with bacon we have some options "add 1pc bacon, add 2pc bacon, add 3pc bacon". We don't give a shit on the back board and actually count it out, if the burger needs bacon we just throw some on there.

As always, being nice gets you a lot further than being an asshole. I've given people free cookies, shakes, fries, etc just because they called me Miss or said please and thank you.

Don't leave a huge mess.

Yes, we talk about you.

>>
>>3619565
>we WILL tell you to get out of the store.

LOL... NOPE.
>>
>>3619565

I never refuse extra veggies to anyone. I give people what they want, and try to make them happy. I get great tips that way. When they want extra, I put on extra- a little at a time until they are satisfied. I have never asked anyone to leave over wanting some extra olives, that's rude. If people like a lot of pepper, I sprinkle it on profusely with my face turned away while breathing out of my nose so it doesn't make me sneeze. I will admit that some customers like an obscene amount of a certain vegetable on their sandwiches, but they are the minority (at least where I work) and I would rather keep them coming back. Losing a customer causes way more of a profit loss than dumping on a few extras.
>>
>>3619395
I know of at least one Subway (inside a gas station) that will charge 50 cents for getting both lettuce and spinach on a sandwich. Otherwise you have to choose one or the other.

I thought maybe the employee was just being a dick and came back a week later. Different employee, same 50 cent charge. I no longer go to that Subway. (None of the others I've ever been to have had such a charge.)
>>
>>3619616

They aren't allowed to do that. They probably think that no one will complain about it to get away with it.

Unfortunately, Subway restaurants aren't very profitable unless you own several of them or own one that is very VERY busy. Owners will try to nickel and dime you where they can, even if it means breaking the terms of being a franchisee.
>>
>>3619565
Ok dickhead, for one: No one is going to "clear you out of your olives". No.

And if someone asks for more of one thing but NOTHING of other stuff, it could actually mean more profit for the store. You seem like an idiot so let me give you an example:

Someone comes into the store and orders a sandwich with a good amount of EVERYTHING you have as fillers or condiments. Fairly pricey, but it can still be charged as a simple "turkey sub" if it's just got turkey in it.

Other person comes in and (for some retarded reason) wants just turkey and black olives in their sandwich, b8ut they want a FUCKLOAD of black olives. It only compensates for the lack of everything else.

Stop being a fucking piece of shit. You don't own the fucking "restaurant". You work there. When someone pays your shitty ass to make a sandwich, you do what they tell you to do you fucking sack of shit.

Little Caesar's:

The deep dish pizza pans used to be coated in a special mix before putting the dough in which would give the crust a pleasant flavor. It was 50% garlic butter and 50% olive oil. Years ago, the franchise I was in (possibly others, too) stopped adding the olive oil to cut costs.

The parmesean cheese in the store is mixed in with a heavy dose of salt. If you don't want salt, you'll have to ask for a new bag to be opened.

When I last worked there, the food cost of crazy bread was 10 cents. The purchase price was $2.50, plus another 89 cents if you wanted sauce.

At the franchise I worked at, truck food deliveries came only once a week. Each store had a different day they would receive product. So if you want to ensure the freshest toppings, figure out when the truck arrives and order food 1-2 days after to ensure leftover product from the earlier week has all been used up.

The default buffalo wing sauce is some amount of Frank's Red Hot and some amount of garlic butter. Either 50/50, 1:2, or 2:1, I don't really remember.

Don't get beef on your pizza.
>>
>>3619609

Just use terms like "a buttload" or more politely "a handful."

I once saw a customer ask my coworker for a "grip" of olives. When he put a bunch on, the customer says "I wanted a grip, not a gang." Apparently he was too generous.
>>
At the starbucks I worked at everything was always pretty clean. We had to literally clean everything on a checklist every 10 minutes, and everything was kept fresh and new. We had to throw out the coffee and make a fresh batch every hour. We cleaned the milk steamer after every use.

But the pastry case was nasty. There were fruit flies in it because we were near the produce section (in a grocery) and once my coworker tried to throw away some stuff that had bugs on it and the manager walked over and yelled at him. He threw them out anyway and went to get fresh stuff while we cleaned the case.

SO yea

Little Caesars manager here. I can vouch for most of these. Not the butter/redhot mix though, as we only use redhot. Also, beef was just fine and was my favorite topping until they discontinued it for some reason. The only topping at our store that have even a remote chance of getting old are like the onions and green peppers because they're fresher, i.e. not canned and we go through everything else too damn fast. Never seen anything straight-up moldy.

Other than that I can't think of anything offhand being gross. Actually no, the pizza pans are never washed, but since they regularly go through a 450 degree oven I'm pretty sure there's not a single bacterium that could survive that shit.
>>
>>3619395

Frank's Red Hot and melted butter is pretty much the default for buffalo wings everywhere, though. That's straight-up what buffalo wing sauce is. That's not really a scandal or a secret I don't think.
>>
>>3619780
Same person, and not really a secret, but there's nothing better than being surprised by a random tip. Fast food workers never expect tips so when they do get one it's fucking awesome.

For some reason in the past month I've gotten like $20-25 in tips on about 5 separate occasions. One guy seriously gave me $10 in the drive thru and he got the greatest caesar pizza of all time.
>>
The other Little Caesars guy here. Yeah, tips are extremely rare. In my 3 years working for them I only ever got maybe $10 total in tips. The franchise would actually write us up if we were caught accepting tips, but we accepted them anyway because we were all poor and an extra dollar was amazing.

I've heard other franchises treat their employees well, but mine I was making near-minimum wage as an assistant manager. (Earned $2 in raises including promotion, minimum wage went up $1.50 or so, new employees/trainees were making some 30 cents less than I was, and they couldn't be bothered to give anyone a raise. They canceled all benefits for assistant managers around the same time, too.)

The beef thing could have depended upon the distributor we were linked to. We got our food distributed from Chicago and it'd always have this white stuff all over it. Cooked it and tried it anyway, and it tasted awkward.

I can confirm the pan thing, too. Only time they'd ever be cleaned is when a glob of sauce got in them. But that oven would kill any potential bacterium.

I worked for Papa Murphy's, too. Aside from the fresh mushrooms never actually being washed and the dirt clumps being left on them (possibly just a store thing), there isn't really anything secret about the place. All the veggies were fresh and prepared day-of, cut/diced on site. Any sauces came pre-bagged so the compositions unknown. Store I worked at was very clean.

I worked a subway. I saw food being relabled a couple of times but it was never anything especially dangerous, just the processed beef being extended to three days instead of two which was never going to do anyone any harm. We had guidelines for vegetables (Something like three slices of tomato/cucumber for a 6-inch sandwich) but we were generally encouraged to be pretty generous with it

Cross-contamination wasn't a problem at the one I worked at either. We got a lot of moslems, so any time they'd come in gloves would be changed as the meat isn't halal. I'd generally change them every couple of minutes anyway.

Worked at a Timmies/Coldstone location, this is true. I was once sent to purchase fruit from the grocery store to freeze, too, even though we weren't supposed to do that (contamination worries and all that jazz), but our store owner was a fucking cheapass. She also wanted one pair of rubber gloves to be used between all staff to clean the bathrooms with, no disposable ones like THE LAW STATES ONE MUST USE WHEN CLEANING KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS HERE.

Timmies isn't "always fresh" - known for a long time though. The muffins are the only actual fresh-baked good there; the dough comes frozen. Everything else is partially baked and we pop it in the oven for a bit. I don't trust the egg patties we get; the scrambled eggs in your breakfast wrap is just those things chopped up.

Our dishwasher was also just one of those things that sprays the dishes with hot water.

worked as a cook at Culver's restaurants.

If you only read one thing of this: DO NOT TIP THE PEOPLE WHO BRING YOU YOUR FOOD. They don't fucking deserve it - it is the easiest job in the world, and just because the foods delivered to you doesn't make it tip worthy.

as said before, we nuke all our mashed potatoes and green beans, and our chili is made from old hamburger that was left out on the grill.

If you order from the drive through, your order has to be done in under 4 minutes, 5 if you're inside. Some things like the fried chicken sandwich take 5 minutes to cook, sometimes we pull stuff 20 secs early if were running behind. We start the timer after you pull through, so mention fried food as soon as possible and your order will get done faster.

Lastly dont make a mess-once a couple of douchebag highschoolers made a huge mess and then came up to order some shakes to go. One of them ended up with pubes in theirs, and rightly so. As far as i can recall, tainting food only happened once.

Tim Horton's employee here:
- Iced mix that goes into fruit smoothie is a mixture of simple syrup (is used for glazing danishes) and cold water
- Espresso machine uses nescafe barista mix and chocolate and skim milk powder
- Our BBQ sauce for our chicken wraps is Bullseye

My wife's brother has been working at BK for 11 years and he's still just an assistant manager.

Are there any terrible things I should know about the meatball sub at Subway?
>>
I worked at starbucks.

can't really say anything that bad about it except the absurd amount of cleaning with chemicals could easily lead to someone who doesn't give a fuck poisoning someone.

other than that frappucinos are made with instant coffeeish packets and a sweet coffee flavored creamy thing. although when we made them for ourselves we usually used espresso beans (which would grind up in the blender that moved at 2873827382 mph) and milk, then sweetened them on our own. the cream based ones use some odd heavy powder that I can't remember the name of. Chai tea lattes use a concentrate of chai tea instead of brewed chai tea.

I honestly can't think of anything nasty we did. No food stayed in the display cases for more than 2-3 days and if a pastry trey started to stale it would usually get taken out. The store I worked at was laid back but efficient outside of a couple of crazy supervisors that didn't last and everyone fucking each other and each other's friends.

Breads don't really spoil you dumbass.

Cream Cheese Danishes, doughnuts, croissants, scones are all one day at my store. The rest are good for two days.

Ba‘al az-Zubab speaks the truth, but if one dared to argue with the prince of the demons, one might question why starbucks gets away with selling day old bread at today's prices
>>
>>3622699
Because it still tastes good and still is good.
Starbucks is pretty strict on turning over products before they even get a chance to go bad. The sandwiches we throw out are actually still good for about a week.

they're refrigerated. bread items are tossed at noon-1 the day they arrive. pastries all have their own expiration date (either at the end of the day, following day, or third day)

I can't remember exactly but I think the breakfast sandwiches (also refrigerated) are tossed at the end of the day after they arrive.

I was honestly surprised by starbucks' standards. I don't like it enough to go back there frequently unless it's the only place with coffee around but I have no ill-will towards it other than how understaffed we were, but I think that had more to do with our district manager because she was known as being pretty stingy.

Gorilla Munch is really just Kix re-branded to rustle your jimmies.

Be nice to Starbucks baristas. If you're a nice regular I will find a way to give you a discount. If you fuck with me even the slightest bit, you're getting decaf and dead shots that have been sitting out. And mystery milk.

Hmm I guess its like that pre-cooked Perdue crap. Figured as much. It's probably not unsanitary, just really high in sodium.

Same here bro. The good is actually suprisingly good. We are safe for the most part, aside from some occasional lazy dishwashing and other low key things like that. We also get to eat all of the leftovers after the boss leaves every night. Shits cash.

Only a month? We kept it a whole year at the TB I worked at. If it got to runny, we added a few cockroaches to make it crunchier.
