  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

I try to explain the taste of beer to people as the taste of a strong iced tea but even stronger. Beer is just more bitter, and just as much an acquired taste.

But I have the same problem as OP. I'm frequently opening a beer, taking my first sip and then having my stomach turn over as the hops laugh at my tolerance for bitterness. All I can say is that it gets slightly better after the first sip, but for god's sake drink beer while eating, not by itself.

My only advice is to stop trying to tolerate the "regular beers" and start looking for beers that lean towards the malt side of the fence rather than the hops. I'm not saying go full on "Mike's Hard Lemonade" or the other girly malt liquors, though. Look for unusual flavors like vanilla or oatmeal, and take a look at beers that naturally use less hops (irish red ale for example).
    >> Anonymous 05/05/12(Sat)02:02 No.3593078
Guinness Draft, Spaten Optimator, McEwan's Scotch Ale (FUCK YOU HEINEKEN!), Hoegaarden...

    Those are good beers.

Pro-tip: Dark beer is the way to go, except for a really good wheat beer (Shocktop is shit).

Try a doppelbock with chocolate and coffee tones.

I tend to lean on the maltier side as well. It's always nice to try different styles and find what you like best.

    Lager (start)

    Malts:
    Brown ale>Red ale>Porter>Stout>Imperial Stout

    Hops:
Amber ale>Pale>IPA>Imperial IPA>those crazy bitter IPAs many breweries make these days.

I'm not much for normal beers, but I can drink them if there is nothing else. Try a few hard ciders like strongbow (only if you find it on tap somewhere) or woodchuck, red woodchuck if you want a sweeter taste, green for a hit of granny apple tartness. Then you start getting used to the normal beer taste under the cider taste and it grows on you.

    Here's the thing about beers:

Everybody develops their own taste for it, and everybody is different.

Me? I like Stella Artois, Franziskaner, and Belgian White. My friends like other beers. It all comes down to personal preference.

The most advice I'll give OP is to try a few more beers, get more than one or two under your belt before you write it off. Maybe you develop a taste for one, maybe you don't. Maybe you're not a beer person. Maybe you just haven't found the right one yet.

An easy way to get into beer is by going out with some friends and taking turns buying rounds.

Beers to try in North Carolina:
Red Oak - Local brewery, a bavarian lager, note that if you're getting it in stores you can only buy 18-bottle cases at a time, but many bars have it on tap
Duck Rabbit - Great local dark beer brewery, try the Brown Ale or the Milk Stout
Dogfish Head - this one's from Delaware but they don't sell in many places off the East Coast, so if you're new to the region give it a try, they distribute in NC
Lonerider Brewery - they make some beers with western-themed names. To be honest I'm not entirely a fan of these beers, but they're easy to find and definitely a good choice if it's between this and something like mike's or sam adams.

But I don't like those, they're too bitter and nasty. What about something more like Molson or Miller?

I don`t like beer but I know it`s an acquired taste. I better start trying to like it though, I don`t want to go off to college next year being the fag that refuses a friendly beer

I hate beer fags. It's so pretentious of you to believe that your micro or euro brew that's been sitting around for months because no one wants to buy it.

protip: buy direct from a brewery if possible, getting beer less than a month old. it will blow your mind.

Not my pic. Straight out of the bottle here. I only enjoy the kind on the right. The left is a champagne style so it is appropriate.

Had a beer yesterday. Tasted great.

Now what? What can I say to those people that don't like it but feel as though they just have to have an opinion to voice rather than just moving on to things that they do like?
