  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

Let's get a Chipotle appreciation thread going, /ck/! I've got to admit that I'm new to the whole Mission-style burrito thing, so I'm not claiming that Chipotle has perfected the variant, but I can't imagine it getting any better than this. I try to change up my order each time, but my go-to filling is carnitas, fajita vegetables, corn salsa, red chili salsa, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. What do you usually order at Chipotle?

If you like burritos, chipotle has the worst ones. Try finding places that aren't chains so the quality and flavor is something to be proud of, instead of just cut and stamped burritos.

Even though OP comes off as a fag, sadly he's right.

I've been to pretty much every taqueria in the mission and plenty outside of San Francisco. They all have the same style, the only major differences that set the best ones apart from the decent ones are quality of ingredients like freshness (good meat/produce, fresh tortillas from the local bakeries, etc) and experienced staff.

Chipotle when done right is pretty much the burrito taken to the next level. It pains me to say that, but it's the truth.

It's about as healthy as eating a loaf of bread and a salad. Most salads have negligible nutritional value, and only serve as filler to make you eat less. "Chipotle Powder" has a bad shelf-life, just like other chili-powder concoctions.
Compound this with a low-quality brand and a lack of rotation for spices at most non-specialist stores and you have a recipe for tasteless powder.

Try delicious canned chipotles with adobo sauce. Flavorful smoothly-spiced heat with some smoky goodness, and it keeps like a champ. Short of that, get Small amounts from reputable online spice merchants.

I'll rethink ordering Chipotle dishes at restaurants, not that I eat out, ever, but other then that, I'd have to say it's a silly spice to consider when there are so many other, excellent alternatives.

I went to qdoba once, and I liked some things about it more than chipotle, mainly the better options and (if I recall correctly) better prices.

The only thing I didn't like was that their sour cream wasn't as good as Chipotle's. I know it sounds weird to say that, but something about chipotle's sour cream tastes special to me. It's the main reason I prefer it over other places.

The concept of authenticity in food is bullshit! I'm not saying you have to like chipotle, or that it has the best burrito, but hating chipotle but loving mission burritos has more to do with identity and less to do with taste and quality. I've lived in SF for a couple years and, no, chipotle is not the best, but they are consistent. With many places burrito quality varies each time I eat there and there can be more differences between times I order a burrito than among the different Taquerias.

1/3 of the filling in that burrito appears to be mashed avocado. 1/4 at least.

That's way too much goop. Even looks like a puree. It's already very soft bodied. I don't see the appeal in making a goop out of it, unless you're going to eat it as a dip with crunchy chips. Chunks would be far more aesthetic to both the eye and the mouth feel.

I've never eaten at Chipotle. While I'd be interested in trying it, pics like that on /ck/ only make me feel that I'd rather continue to make my homemade burritos/wraps/etc. and stay away from the chains, as usual.

I mentioned the goop for a reason. You seem to have missed it. And would it be so odd? The local Mexican restaurants around here make two variations of the same salsas in that one is cooked and one is not. Some people prefer one and some prefer the other. Why are you implying that something like this is so out of the ordinary or difficult to provide. Hell, it should be expected to have variety. But oh well, enjoy what Chipotle decides is best for you, I guess.

Stop eating at shitty restaurants. A place owned by my friend even encourages people to tip only if they feel like it. The people serving tables do a lot of work especially when it's busy, expecting the employees to pay is just lazy and selfish.

if in a strange town with only chain restaurants as options, would eat chipotle without a second's thought.

This is the standard Chipotle counter. They operate in the same manner as Subway, except with burritos/tacos.

From left to right: lettuce, guacamole, cheese, corn and sour cream, three salsas, then the proteins (meat 'n' beans), "fajita" veggies, and rice. The line starts with the rice and ends over by lettuce, which means burritos like the one featured in OP's picture get the sour cream and guacamole last. That's why it looks like slop.

Let's be honest here, we all know the burritos are decent at chipotle and are a fair degree better then most greasepan e-coli trucks that roll around the poor district of the city live in.

Just because one of those trucks, every once in a mexican moon DOESN'T poison you, doesn't mean that they're suddenly god-tier.

"A burrito...is a type of Mexican food. It consists of a wheat flour tortilla wrapped or folded...to completely enclose a filling."

What part of that says "unhealthy"? The way I see it, the beauty of the burrito is its easily customizable nature. You could just as easily fill a burrito with grilled vegetables as you could with greasy meats and fatty cheese.

If you think the definition I supplied is incorrect, feel free to cite the dictionary of your choice, rather than simply criticize my choice of source.

Burrito doesn't have a "common usage" definition in the manner you claim. It's common usage is pretty close to the definition I supplied. In "common usage", people use preformative adjectives to distinguish the burrito. For example, "breakfeast burrito" or "bean and cheese burrito". The actual term "burrito" is still used loosely to describe dishes of various fillings encompassed by a tortilla.

Maybe the word "burrito" has a more regional or personal definition to you, which you've implied is tantamount to "a sack of grease with some flatbread".

I Googled it and you actually weren't trolling.

"The word burrito means "little donkey" in Spanish, as a diminiuitive form of burro, or "donkey". The name burrito as applied to the food item possibly derives from the appearance of a rolled up wheat tortilla, which vaguely resembles the ear of its namesake animal, or from bedrolls and packs that donkeys carried.[2] In some areas, such as the Lower Rio Grande Valley, they are called patos, meaning "ducks", again presumably derived from their appearance (cf. golubtsy)."

This fucking thread forced me to go out and get some chipotle. Three hours drive, and it was absolute shit-teir.

There was a giant line of loud niggers, and the negras wouldn't shut the fuck up about their toe nail polish chipping and how their boyfriends left them after they got pregnant. When I finally reached the end of the line, I couldn't even hear myself speak to the mexican dude behind the counter. Nigger laughter and random dancing.

I got the steak, white rice, sour cream and pintos. I couldn't eat the whole thing, the meat was fatty as fuck. I vomited and had to toss out $13 worth of bullshit.

    1. You suck at ordering a decent burrito
    2. You suck at having a digestive system
    3. You suck at money because you spent more on gas than you did on fast food.

Just ate there today. My verdict... Chipotle's flavor factor is quite different from Taco Del Mar. So it's really impossible to say one is better than the other; similar to chocolate and vanilla. I've heard some people say Chipotle is more... authentic? But I wouldn't know an authentic burrito if it bit me in the ass. Flavors are alot more subtle and slightly more complex with Chipotle. But the size of the burrito's they make, and the cost... meh. I still prefer Taco Del Mar.

Chipotle's burritos are humongous. Tasty, but I'd rather have 3 smaller ones so I don't have to refrigerate leftovers or throw them away.
Also, stuffings in the US are a lot more complex, in Mexico they usually stuff them with a single "guisado" (prepared dish like barbacoa or mole) and don't use lettuce, guacamole, cream, rice, corn or beans in 'em.

You can order the soft tacos (three per order) with the same fillings as a burrito. I order them from time to time.

They aren't even in the same league. Taco Del Mar is basically Taco Bell.

    >>Taco Del Mar is Taco Bell

4 years ago I would have kicked your ass for saying such a thing, while cramming a fish-cabbage burrito twice the thickness of my arm down your heretical throat.

    But now...
now I can only remove my hat and bow my head in misery... it seems things are gradually moving in that direction.

They aren't over-corporatized yet, selling Doritos Tacos or the next weekly gimmick - but their soul of good business is dying. Day by day the burritos shrink and the ingredients get worse... the prices rise and the menu stagnates.

Double Chicken, White Rice, Hot Salsa, Medium Salsa, Sour Cream, Cheese & Lettuce
    All in a bowl w/ a tortilla.

I don't get it often, but when I do it's downright orgasmic. Especially when the rice is really limey/salty/cilantro-y. I wash it down with a Mexican Orange Fanta (you know, the glass bottle ones.)
