We will also be sending proper Last-Modified headers on HTML starting early next week (works on our end, waiting on a fix from CDN). And still tracking down the issues with posting/accessing sys.4chan.org.

I've gotten a few e-mails from Australian users about difficulty resolving 4chan DNS and accessing the site. If you are affected, please e-mail moot@4chan.org with more specifics like your ISP, and what the 4chan subdomains are resolving to (run "nslookup boards.4chan.org" and "nslookup www.4chan.org" from command prompt/terminal).

Hey /ck/, since I'm poor at the moment, I'm having Ramen a lot. What's some stuff I can add to it to increase nutrition and make it a bit more of a real meal?

I was thinking of getting some carrots today to slice into it, but what else is good for adding?
    >> Anonymous 11/23/11(Wed)06:19 No.3242545
I'm in the same boat at you, anon.
For some extra nutrition and something a bit more substantial I usually add an egg that I poach in the broth before tossing in the noodles, and then I add some spinach, mushrooms, and if I have some chicken I throw that in as well.

    >chicken

You're voicing a good point there. Since I can't cook really fresh food at the moment (mostly limited to an oven), how would I go about adding some meat to my diet? What kind of chicken do you usually add? Do you pre-cook chicken breast or something and add it then?
    >> Anonymous 11/23/11(Wed)06:23 No.3242549
    >>3242547
I take skinless chicken breasts and cut them up into manageable sizes and cook them on their own in a skillet. Usually, I add some garlic and seasonings here while its on its own, and then once it's cooked nearly all the way through I add it to the ramen while that's cooking so that the chicken absorbs some of the flavor from that.

    dude, you've got an oven
chicken is cheap, so are potatoes, onions, celery, and carrots
so why aren't you making roast chicken and veggies?

Because it's a small portable oven-thingy and I don't have real space to prepare elaborate foodstuffs, unfortunately.

So what's some other stuff beside carrots that I cold put into some Ramen? My girlfriend was using some leeks, I'll get some of those too I think.

You could try throwing in some cabbage.
    >> Anonymous 11/23/11(Wed)07:33 No.3242584
    >>3242542
    Carrot, yep.
And bean sprouts (not sure what it's called in N.America).
Cabbaged. If you want a bit of sophistication then stir fry them first.
    Snow peas.
Boiled egg, cut in half, then served on top.

Do you have something to steam? If so, steamed chicken thighs, cut up, and served on top is good too.

Bean sprouts, yes! Thanks, carrots, leek and bean sprouts will be enough for a start. Maybe some ginger too.

    In a Ramen noodle? idk....
    I'd suggest chopped garlic instead.

I do have some garlic. Gonna try this instead then. Just raw chopped garlic, a little of it?

Dry ramen is shit tier. Buy those Japanese ramen in the frozen food aisle in any asian grocery store. They're a buck more, but so worth it.

I usualy put a dash of fresh spermotazoa on my ramen just before serving.

If you like spam, that helps with making it more substantial. Uhm all different kinds of leftovers are good in ramen- chicken, steak, sauteed veggies, etc.

You could also make it into fried noodles instead of a soup version. Just boil water, drain noodles, and sautee with a bit of oil and about 3/4 of the seasoning packet. Toss in green onion and leftover chicken.

Yup. Just one reasonably sized clove ought to be enough.

    Convenience bro.
Used to eat a lot of instant (dry) noodles during my study days as I just didn't have time. (OP might be in the same situation).
Hope it didn't do any permanent damage.

If you want healthy, try replacing the soup powder entirely. An XO sauce/soy sauce mix with water makes for a pretty okay soup. Just adding green veggies is good, too, like spinach or broccoli or something.

Alrighty, will try one with garlic, leek, and some carrots tonight then. Thanks a lot!

    >Convenience bro. Used to eat a lot of instant (dry) noodles during my study days as I just didn't have time.

This. I'm in my first apartment, living alone and my kitchen situation is - pretty non-existant. Besides the mentioned mini-oven (and a fridge of course), I don't have anything else. I hope I can get another apartment soon though.

What are you talking about? Frozen ramen takes just as long to make as dry ramen.
    >> Anonymous 11/23/11(Wed)09:33 No.3242672
Try scrambling the egg in a cup beforehand, then pouring it in over a fork when the broth hits the boil, it cooks faster and you should end up getting threads of egg through your noodles like you get in egg fried rice from the takeaway

    Veggies I add are
    Spring onion
    Mushroom
    Baby sweetcorn
    Those mini pea pod things
    Grated carrot
1 stock cube and chili flakes/powder

Thanks for the egg-tip! Will it be cooked enough if I pour the egg into the broth that's already in my serve-ready cup? I heat water with a water-cooker and then pour it onto the noodles, normally. I'd go get some eggs for my next time then. Here's how I prepared it today:

    - bean sprouts underneath the noodles
    - carrots on top of them (both added before pouring in the water)
    - green onions and
    - corn (both added after letting the noodles soak for 5 minutes)

Here in Australia we eat a shit-ton of imported Indonesian 'ramen' called Mi Goreng.

For cheap, easy and filling food i like to:

dice some kind of meat (usually chicken or pork)
    +Carrot, Capsicum, onion, etc.

    fry with guesstimated portions of:

    Sweet chilli
    Soy sauce
    Kecap Manis (Sweet Soy)
    BBQ Sauce
    Tomato Sauce
    Minced garlic
    Honey

    +whatever random sauces/ spices I can find

While that's cooking I boil some mi goreng and add to the pan with the flavor sachets.

    Fry that shit up

Goes well the next morning to cure a hangover.

Hmmm I don't know, I usually add them quite early because I'm paranoid about stuff like that. It helps if you shake the fork a bit as you pour the eggs over, then stir afterwards as well.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/11(Thu)11:02 No.3244246
    >>3244090
Cooked enough, probably, yes. I don't see any reason not to add it sooner, though.

Depends how you add it, too. It'll cook easier if you're going that egg drop kinda thing. If you want it poached, I'd put it in before you take it off the heat, obviously.
    >> Anonymous 11/24/11(Thu)11:31 No.3244261
I usually add a drop or two of fish sauce and some sriracha. If I have any extra money I'll put some thinly sliced beef in der as well
    >> Anonymous 11/24/11(Thu)11:43 No.3244274
rice with frozen veg and some kind of cheap (hot) sauce would sustain you far better and for longer and much cheaper than buying ramen everyday

nonetheless I'd say broccoli. have just 3 or 4 pieces with the noodles. you can get cheap bags of frozen broccoli anywhere and they'll last you ages

Also, most large stores will have great clearance sections, especially in the 1-2 hours before closing. you can get all sorts of shit there for next to nothing prices
