    i need help

what are some foods i can buy outside that are cheap and healthy?

I work at night and usually dont get off anywhere from 11pm till 1am.
Im usually hungry when i get off and tired to stand up and make something. Plus the kitchen is ALWAYS mess and never clean (roommates, cant say much cause im getting really cheap rent). Anyways, thats another subject.

The question here, what are some food I can buy late night and cheap and healthy?

I live in a big city (los angeles) so most fast food are open 24hrs and supermarket like Vons / Ralphs are also 24hrs.

    Any ideas?
So far all I got are subway $5 foot longs with lots of veggies and wheat bread.

Any other options thats less than $10 and healthy?

Whenever I'm outside in L.A. I only buy food that costs more than 10 dollars.

How about clean some dishes beforehand....and have some fucking food around too.

Why does everything have to be last minute? You're only fucking yourself if you run life that way.

let me give a list off the top of my head

    taco bell
    mcdonalds
    burger king
    carls jr
    yoshinoya
    subway
+ a lot of hole in the wall shops / local eateries (mainly mexican food)

go to 24 hour grocery store, there is absolutely nothing cheaper than buying and preparing your own food at home...i can spend 30 bucks at Trader Joe's and be good for 4-5 days before making another trip..

not to mention its not shitty for you if you know how to do it right.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)18:38 No.2091708
if you must have fast food, go subway.

get a 5 dollar foot long, one of the fresh fit choices. whole wheat bread. veggies of your choice. cheese of your choice (mostly the same). pick a healthy sauce (fat free ones, mustards, sweet onion, red wine vinn. avoid mayo, ranch, and chipolte)

not cheaper than making it yourself but easier/faster.

i would LOVE to make things myself, but as i said the kitchen is VERY limited. Shit man we dont even have gas running. IF and when we do cook we use those camping stove....

so unless you got some ideas of what i can make with that.. well than yeah

    >>2091708

    not easier, not faster

i used to eat subway every day and this was my excuse too...going to the grocery store once takes the same amount of time as going to subway if you know everything you are getting...and then making my own sandwiches for the next few days is definitely faster than driving to a subway..

subway bread is still full of HFCS and their meats packed full of sodium..

i LOVE subway..its easily my favorite fast food and one of my favorites in general...but realizing how its actually not really that healthy for you was one of the hardest things i had to deal with in my diet.

    >>2091776

youd be surprised how many things its snuck into..even "healthy" bread you buy at most grocery stores has it... and thats exactly why this guy here >>2091780 is a fool...

in general its not bad for you no...but one serving of HFCS is enough to give you your recommended sugar content for a single day...and because its thrown into SO many foods..you end up consuming ass fucking tons of it...and thus far too much sugar than you should be consuming in a single day..
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)19:19 No.2091817
Go to the food market and get a few pounds of cheap sandwich meat (always turkey/ham/pepperoni there) then go buy either a few loaves of bread or some italian/whole wheat bread (the kind of bread you see at the subway) then get some sauce if you want and some grated cheese then there you go. A weeks worth of food if you happen to eat a lot.

This. This. This. When it's in everything, you can't help but consume too much of it. That's why those pro-HFCS commercials make me so fucking angry. "It's fine in moderation hurr durr" what they leave out is that it's in EVERYTHING, so there is no moderation.

    >Yoshinoya
Anyways, >>2091643, please listen to me. That it's really related to this thread.
I went to Yoshinoya a while ago; you know, Yoshinoya?
Well anyways there was an insane number of people there, and I couldn't get in.
Then, I looked at the banner hanging from the ceiling, and it had "150 yen off" written on it.
    Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots.
You, don't come to Yoshinoya just because it's 150 yen off, fool.
It's only 150 yen, 1-5-0 YEN for crying out loud.
There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some Yoshinoya, huh? How fucking nice.
"Alright, daddy's gonna order the extra-large." God I can't bear to watch.
You people, I'll give you 150 yen if you get out of those seats.
Yosinoya should be a bloody place.
That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the U-shaped table can start a fight at any time, the stab-or-be-stabbed
mentality, that's what's great about this place.
Women and children should screw off and stay home.
Anyways, I was about to start eating, and then the bastard beside me goes "extra-large, with extra sauce."
Who in the world orders extra sauce nowadays, you moron?
I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to eat it with extra sauce?"
I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour.
Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "extra sauce"?
Coming from a Yoshinoya veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, extra green onion.
That's right, extra green onion. This is the vet's way of eating.
Extra green onion means more green onion than sauce. But on the other hand the price is a tad higher. This is the key.
And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable.
However, if you order this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the employees from next time on; it's a double-edged sword.
I can't recommend it to amateurs.
What this all really means, though, is that you, >>2091643, should just stick with today's special.
    >> Anonymous 07/23/10(Fri)19:28 No.2091852
    >>2091841
Exactly my point. Most people don't cook everything from scratch however. I cook nearly everything from scratch, with the exception of baked goods like bread and pastas. I do make my own bread occasionally, but I don't always have time. But the bread I buy is free from HFCS, and sweetened with honey.

a wendys baked potato and no, not with tons of butter. just a little sour cream and black pepper .and a small cup of chille. two little single chesse burgers most any where. not a huge double bacon whatever. and water. or at least unsweet tea. but for ten bucks? wash some dishes and go to a grocery store. ten bucks can go a long way in a store, even if just a 12 oz pack of ham or turkey, some sliced store brand sliced chese and a loaf of commercial bread. and a tomato. at least you will have enough for a second day, or to share. sodas or drinks are where fast food places make a killing. a 5 cent cup, 5 cents worth of syrup, 2 cents worth of carbonated water, and bam ( as emeril says) you just paid almost two bucks. of your ten. and any time you do go through a drive throuh window, ask for extaa backs of condements. save for later, for use on that stuff you bought at the grocery store. win.
