If the chips were thinner, I'd sometimes refer to them as fries. Even in the US, they acknowledge Fish and Chips, and realise that chips are the thicker, softer variety of fried potato goodness.

Crisps just makes sense; they are crispy.

Why do we Americans call them fries? because most of the time i dont even fry them. But i agree...chip is also a stupid name. a chip sounds to me like a little piece that you mix with other little pieces to make hash browns. fry doesnt make sense, but it sounds right to me. i like crisp..so we can keep that for the crisps.

We need a name that will bring us together as one!
