03/26/10(Fri)22:41 No.1680813Technically,
anything you can cook in an oven you can cook in a microwave. The main
problem with microwaves is that they heat the outside of the food too
quickly. This was initially the selling point of microwaves; you could
quickly heat small things, eliminating the use of a conventional oven
for things like reheating leftovers. Microwaves can be used to cook
things in the same manner as conventional ovens. This requires
temperature probes and careful control of the power of the magnetron.
Unfortunately, these features are rarely offered now, mainly because
they are expensive to implement and operate. Microwaves today operate in
a single power switched mode and are not very good for much other than
reheating food, or ramen. Failing that, and getting a hotplate, or if
you're too pussy to ignore the rules, get standalone induction
'hotplate'. They are very expensive but also very safe. |
