OP, I used to have an eating disorder. I would eat a lot of fruits
and veggies, baked meats, nice stuff on regular days. When I was
stressed I would crave McDonalds or dim sum or something with a lot of
oil, eat a bunch of it, then purge. Eventually, I got over it by
eating stuff like chocolate, cheese, and bacon in moderation. I find
that if I eat something rich once in a while, I feel much happier, and I
don't have sudden cravings.
1. For starters, realize that life
is about enjoyment, and moderation will not lead to disease.
2. I
don't know if you purge, but a huge part of my recovery was realizing
that purging was way more destructive than a little fat or sugar
(esophageal tearing, tooth decay from stomach acids). Anorexia will
similarly, cause decalcification of bones and stunted growth. If your
objective is to have a healthy body, an eating disorder will NOT allow
you to achieve that.
3. Identify the REAL enemies, 'Novel Foods':
HFCS, Soy/Corn processed foods, fried vegetable oils. This pretty much
rules out fast food, boxed cookies, massive bread baking companies.
These days, nutritionally devoid filler type substances never before
used as food are being marketed as staples.
4. Decide what you
think a healthy diet should be. Don't let your crazy side in on this. Be
rational, and have a little fun. If you don't like bacon, or are
allergic to dairy, obviously leave bacon and cream out. If you LOVE
chocolate, decide how often you should be able to eat it. Once a week
maybe? There are good properties of chocolate (antioxidant), and bad
(acne causing). Find the degree of moderation that works for you. |
