If your peers in high school told you that cooking is for girls or fags, how come in real life many chefs are males?

They're implying that if you want real food you rather have someone cook it for you, preferably a female if not in a fast food restaurant or regular sit-down restaurant, instead of cooking it yourself.

Picture related: It's Gordon Motherfucking Ramsay.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)18:11 No.1530743
Mediocre food is girly. Great food is manly.

And Ramsay was a ballplayer, wasn't he?

And Ramsay was a ballplayer, wasn't he?

Used to, he was a soccer player at one time. Might explain his FULL OF RAGE attitude in Hell's Kitchen.

Because there moms still cook for them and they dont think about the fact that there about to grow up and have to eat shitty fast food because they are stupid

Actual cooking has been a male-dominated shindig for centuries. Ramsey himself has stated that he'd like to get more women in the kitchen, and not in a derogatory fashion either. Cooking is fun, and I enjoy what I do. What I have between my legs or on my chest doesn't matter when I put my coat and hat on, just how well I can do my shit.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)18:43 No.1530804
    >>1530757

Actually most people who's parents cook don't eat fast food. The worst are the parents who just take the kid to the drive in everyday, and the kid grows up a fat tub who thinks McNuggets are the end all be all of food.

    >What I have between my legs or on my chest doesn't matter when I put my coat and hat on, just how well I can do my shit.

Fuck yeah. Any job I've had I don't care who or what you are - can you keep up? Most girls are fine with this, though I had one lesbian I worked with tell me I was being sexist because I yelled at her for slowing down her station to a crawl. No, it's not cause you're a woman, it's cause the to-go line is now out the fucking door and you only got this job because you fucked the manager.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)18:46 No.1530814
    >>1530812

And bitches like that make it harder for women who actually can work and keep up, I meant to add.

Women, on average, are just less passionate about any work they do. Guys can put passion into their work even when it gets them no recognition. Just to know they did a job well done. Women are much less likely to do this.

Of course I'm talking averages. Guys, on average, are more passionate than women, on average. So don't come back bitching about some guys aren't or some women are. I know that.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:01 No.1530850
The most simple analogy is like playing soccer with a bunch of friends. The last one chosen is undoubtfully the shittest player so they would usually go goalie because nobody else wants to. However, if there is one person in that team that WANTS to be goalie, he would get far more respect than the one forced into the net.

To relate back to the kitchen example, Gordon Ramsay can do what he does so well that he is actually respected for doing what others frown upon.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:10 No.1530874
    >>1530841

    That's bullshit.

Women on the average work less because many of them have kids. Women who want only a career work more than the average man. Go look at the numbers as far as hours worked.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:21 No.1530893
    >>1530874

On top of that, women are often looked down upon for being as aggressive/passionate about their careers as their male counterparts: "You should be working on trying to find a husband, don't you want to have children? How do you expect to make time for babies with a career like that? Don't you think your best effort should be made on the home front?" It goes on, and on, and on.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:24 No.1530898
    >>1530874
I said "passionate". I'm talking quality of work, not quantity. The average woman has a "get the job done" mindset while the average man has a "let's do the best possible job" mindset.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:25 No.1530903

Or their passion is perceived as bitchiness. Where a man when he gets angry about something it's understood why he is angry, women on the other hand aren't taken seriously in that regard (oh she's just on her period).
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:30 No.1530910
    >>1530903

Yep. That gets pretty frustrating, because periods don't actually make women that pissy; women who act like psycho bitches when they are on their periods are either:
    a. emotionally disturbed in general
    or
    b. using the fact that they are menstruating as an excuse to be as mean as possible-I fucking hate that, and I blame it on people having that "oh, she's just on her period" reaction when women are pissed in the first place. Young girls see that and think it's automatically okay to blow up because they are on the rag and their bitchiness will be disregarded.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:33 No.1530916
    >>1530903
To be fair when men are angry we generally have a good reason to be angry and are fairly honest and direct about it. Women on the other hand...

    >soccer goalie analogy

I really like how you put that, that's exactly right. Cooking is considered a female role because women have historically been the gender that stayed at home and took care of domestic tasks. That said, there's nothing unmanly about cooking because you have to provide for yourself, or if you're a single father, or because you want to make a living - it's only unmanly if you do it while wearing frilly aprons and buying cookbooks and trading recipes with the neighbors, or if you're married and the wife goes to work while you stay home (in that case you look like a pussy).
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)19:36 No.1530926
    >>1530903
Being bitchy or angry isn't "passion" in a man or woman. Passion is doing work with your heart instead of just doing the minimal work to get your paycheck at the end of the week. You sound like a dumb bitch pretending your bitchiness isn't being misinterpreted. Or you're just a dumbass.

    >If your peers in high school told you that cooking is for girls or fags
Is the pressure really that overwhelming? What I've noticed since I've been in out of high school is that more girls don't know their way around the kitchen than boys.

HOMEcooking is considered a traditionally female role. What's the traditional mental image of "chef" or "cook"? It's of a man, probably a little pudgy, maybe with a little mustache, wearing a white smock and chef hat. Professionally, it's traditionally male-oriented.

I think the problem is that view is only help in high school. Last time I checked once you stop being a stupid teenager chicks dig a guy who can cook a good meal for them.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)20:07 No.1530981
I'm reminded by that scene in Ratatouille

Most high class restaurants are ran and owned by high class rich-ass old motherfuckers who still need to be reminded that women have the right to vote. So that's why you don't see too many women working in the most prestigious restaurants. There are still a lot of women chefs.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/10(Fri)20:44 No.1531055
    >>1530898

Yeah, that's bullshit too. I work as a coder, which is 90% male. Some of the women are full of shit, and looking to slide by or always using their kids as an excuse (some of the men do this as well, fuck your kids, unless they're paying your salary). The ones that don't tend to be more meticulous, reliable, and just produce a better quality of product.

Same in the kitchens I've worked in. Women who actually can cook don't fuck around, they get it done and done right . The whiny bitches who want credit cause they're just a girl are worthless. But working women seem to be either great, or worthless, whereas most of the guys are somewhere in the middle.
