What are you listening to /c/? Here in this thread we can discuss anything musical without the assholery of /mu/. Express yourself, don't be shy. Feel free to share what you are listening to, lyrics, anecdotes, opinions, and youtube links. If you can, please post a cute musical pic or, as an extra bonus , a pic that relates to any posted lyrics. This is /c/ after all.

This post goes out to Susan Boyle. Way to live out your dream. Some of you might be tired of her story already, but I know I'd shit me pants if I had to sing in front of a crowd like that. Brilliant.

Eddie waited till he finished high school
He went to hollywood, got a tattoo
He met a girl out there with a tattoo too
    The future was wide open

They moved into a place they both could afford
He found a nightclub he could work at the door
She had a guitar and she taught him some chords
    The sky was the limit

    Into the great wide open,
    Under them skies of blue
Out in the great wide open,
    A rebel without a clue

What do you like about them? I only recognize the Breaking Benjamin song (from a nascar video game, ha!), but I'll assume you like heavy-sounding guitars and singing (as opposed to screaming or growling). If nothing else, look up Death From Above 1979. Look up grunge/alternative bands like Jane's Addiction (Just Because), Smashing Pumpkins (Zero), Soundgarden (The Day I Tried To Live), and Stone Temple Pilots (SEX TYPE THING). Lemme know how that works out for you.

"I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" - Elton John

    And while I'm away
    Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long before you and me run
To the place in our hearts where we hide

And I guess that's why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder, under the covers
And I guess that's why they call it the blues

An Anon in the last thread was looking for some soundtrack recommendations. I went through my collection and found an old gem from the 80's. Give "Purple Rain" (1984) by Prince and the Revolution a try. It has hits like "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", and "I Would Die For U". It's classic Prince before he became a 'symbol'.

Once past the counter and the news stand, with a free bag of popcorn in your hand
You're ready for the world - No, not the band...But a fine selection in video land

Don't be too confused by the little reviews

The hipedi-hoppest videos in the land
Maybe something foreign, maybe something panned, maybe something formerly banned
Perhaps it's something you can watch with friends, or something that inevitably lends
Itself to shapely curves and bends of exploited women and their friends
Perhaps it's "New York, New York" with Liza Minnelli and Mickey Rourke

Hey /c/ , remember me? I'm building a custom bass for myself and I wanted to keep you updated with my progress.
This week I bought all the parts and they should arive in a few weeks. For all the guitar gear heads the parts are ; 201 gotoh bass bridge , Schaller BMFL tuners , a Fender Jazz bass neck , an after market Tusq nut blank and EMG select p-bass pickups.
I also made two final designs of the body , but I'm still debating back and forth which one I like more. So I'm going to post both of them and let /c/ tell me which they think is better.
First one is inspired by the Gibson Les-Paul and Casino. I was thinking of a cry baby blue body and a white pick guard.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v654/belzelga43534/DATBASSV3copy.png
Second one is a mash up of the Fender Stratocaster , Jazz Bass and P-bass. I was going to go with a mahogany body stained candy apple red and a white pick guard.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v654/belzelga43534/DATBASSV2.png

Oh , I suppose I should also say I'm listening to The Who - Who are you on vinyl and post a cute picture

Personally, I'm a fan of the Fender shape and of mahogany wood. I always admired Les Claypool's multi-wooded custom Carl Thompson Scroll Basses. Also, I'm not sure a P-Bass head would look right with a Gibson-like body. It's your bass, let your creative side go.

Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran

Dark in the city, night is a wire
Steam in the subway, earth is a fire
Do-do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do
Woman you want me, give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do-do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do, do do

    In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf

These two. Both are instrumental -- all cellos:

    Apocalyptica - Epilogue:

    Apocalyptica - Conclusion:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erpMcIq6RYY

As for what I'm listening to now, the second of the following songs; a bit before now, the first. Both are "trance". So:

Luke Chable - Melburn (Maor Levi's Big Room Mix):

Store N Forward feat. Mill Brokes - 4 seasons in 1 day (Sean Tyas Remix):

    Starry
    starry night
paint your palette blue and grey

look out on a summer's day
    with eyes that know the
    darkness in my soul.
    Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils

catch the breeze and the winter chills

in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
    They would not listen
    they did not know how

    perhaps they'll listen now.

If you want rave, go for the rainbow on crack pics.

For me, Pendulum turned out to be a big fat disappointment. The second album was all vocoders and twangy guitars and not nearly enough blaring synths and ticky drums that made the first album amusing.

Being a bassist, I'm just gonna say the solid body Les Paul shape is a good resonator, but, to give it that casino feeling maybe you should make it a semi hollow and have one side with a cutaway? Fender had a tele where they did that, it's a unique twist on a body we're so used to and I think if you made it a bit bigger, but not casino size that'd look great, should sound good as well. Also, baby blue wood grained might be awesome.

If you go back in the ol' Who archives you'll see that John had a Thunderbird with a jazz bass neck and headstock that he played, of course John played just about everything he could find or get made.

I did a little searching and I found this image of a replica of Entwistle's 1973 "Fenderbird". I have to admit that it makes a great match.
I also found this description of Entwistle's first bass:
"Entwistle's family couldn't afford to purchase a bass guitar. So, Entwistle obtained a piece of mahogany that was in the shape of the popular bass of 1960, a Fender Precision body. Entwistle had the bass fretted like a Hofner bass."
