I've been with 4chan since almost the beginning and remember when /b/ was somewhat cool. It originally was supposed to be just a random board to post anime pics and whatnot till he made an anime board. Since roughly about 2006, it's become 4chan's insane asylum. Much as we wish moot would close down /b/, if he did, the chronic cases would rampage all over the rest of the board slinging shit everywhere. Pity a whole site's held hostage by one board...

Not really, they would get tired overtime and go somewhere else (another chan for instance).
The only reason /b/ isn't closed is that this board is what makes 4chan a website worth a 7-digit number (though m00t would have a hardtime selling it, considering the retardness of the community).
