That anon here. Extracting the afs archives was simple. The CG files of Imouto Maker Ex are stored as one T2P and one BIP file each, whereas the BIP file is usually around 50kb and the T2P is ~5kb.
There are quite a few uses for BIP, for example for some kind of geographical program that uses them for maps and stuff. I think our best bet is 3ds Max Character Studio, but I haven't tried that one yet. 3ds Max uses bip files for storing animation data. I never played Imouto Maker EX, so I don't know what kind of CGs they are (animated or not), but this crappy format is driving me crazy. These are all the Event files, I believe. I don't care who gets it, as long as they share how they did it. I'll also continue trying.

PS: I also think it's strange that the files are so small. Is it the way the images are stored? There is nothing else on that disc that could store the event CGs.

CGs are the same as the main game. .bip = Band Interleaved by Pixel. Not related to 3ds Max's .bip I think. I can into .bip format a bit, but I'm getting nothing but static/noise.

Looking at the website, it says both files are compressed (with LZSS). Uncompressing T2Ps gives you gims (this explains the gimconv time stamp at the bottom of the file.) but the proportions are off. The program to uncompress seems to be on that site as an undercover .txt file (.exe.txt). The last post on that site is probably the most important one and I don't know what it's referring to.

The process was to decode the BIP file using a variant of LZSS. After that, 10th compiled the program that rewrites the header of the decoded *.dec file into bmp, using RGBA as the palette. The problem was that it turned out like >>1875506, so a resize algorithm was added. Sadly, there was no dimension tag in the bip file, so the program only works for these event CGs and some of the background CGs. The character CGs are a lot more complicated, since they consist of tiles and four different palettes, but in the end, they are probably the same as the ones from the games. I hope that helps.

Yes, all of the backgrounds are used in the second game. Ayase, Saori and Manami are missing character CGs from imouto maker. All of Kirino's have been extracted and compiled (I think that was you too?).

Yeah it was just an extraction followed by a conversion (to wav).

Now the first and second game...that's different. They seem to be similar but compressed (just need to decompress them) using another method. You can SEE the files but there's errors after that.

Right at the beginning of voice.awb file in the second game, there's HEX 41 46 53 32. That translates to AFS2 and it's what leads me to believe that the file is an compressed by it.

I'd love to join that discussion. Back when I first started extracting the CGs after the second game came out, I tried my luck with the bgm.awb because people were requesting the soundtrack, but to no avail. So, I am always willing to learn. But I get the feeling that most of the people over there would shit on us because of entry level stuff.

One last comment I guess.

I went back to the first game (first time I even look at it internally) and was able to extract the files out of the voice file, since it wasn't AFS2. What was left was bin/noExt files. They're HCA format. It's an actual sound format. The problem is that it's new and from comments I read people haven't been able to decode it.

You must be talking about the original first game's ISO, then. Because in the release of the seconds game, the disc containing the first game has the voice.awb compressed as AFS2 (new standards, I guess).
What format was it compressed as, and did you find the decompressor? Since I don't have the original release disc, I can't try my luck on that, but hey, curiosity. This is all highly interesting.
Maybe we really should make a thread on /g/. I have a PS2 game I want to extract and I don't even know where to begin. (IMG file, but not an image)

You're right, I was talking about the original first game. The format it was compressed/bundled as was cpk and yes everything necessary to get those files out is out there. I don't recommend you doing it unless you plan to decode the resulting HCA audio files.

As for your Haruhi issues, img files are sometimes also iso files. In any case, you can go the "burn to cd, rip into an iso" route. It's really dumb but I think it should work.

Sadly, that's not the case, haha.
The rom is already an iso, but the files have no folder structure. Almost everything is archived in a file called MELAN.IMG (It's the biggest file on the disc, about 2,75 gigs), that's 1/6 files on the disc.
Checking it with hex only gave me the hint that there might be TIM2 formated images in there, but Timtool 1.0 doesn't do anything when I feed it the IMG, or maybe I just don't know how to. I read it up and found out that compressing all the data into an IMG file is a rather rare way of storing PS2 games, bad luck. Driver 3 used the same mechanism, and as far as I can tell from google, there are a lot of people having trouble with it. Unless I find a way to decompress it, I'll be stuck with youtube quality screenshots of the CGs, I guess.

Anyway, I found a cpk decompressor earlier, I think, that's interesting. But I won't try to decode those audio files, I'm just not fit enough for something other people already failed at.

Posting more Kirino to keep it at least somewhat related, sorry guys.

Also, someone please tell me if pic related is too lewd for /c/, I'm not here that often after all.
