    Some suggestions:
    - Focus on the fiscal conservative/small government message.
    - Distance yourselves from the religious fundamentalists who want to destroy science education in the US.
    - Stop the cult of the "average joe". Leaders should not be just like us, they should be better.
    - Stop being war mongers. This is incompatible with "small government".

    This especially. Anyone saying they're fighting for middle class no matter what the party is putting forward a populist message.

    Their message should be that they want to keep government out of the way to allow any individual that wants to try to improve their life to do so; no matter where they are fiscally. They should also take a few tips from Ayn Rand (I know; don't say anything) andgive the "deserted island" argument for the free market.
