  • Since I've been on a Q&A kick in /a/ and /r9k/ recently, I've decided to set up a formspring account for publicly answering 4chan related questions. You'll find it linked in the navbar as "?", and located here: formspring.me/4chan. Also, if you use Twitter, please follow @4chan. As always, I can be contacted via e-mail at moot@4chan.org (Despite the common misconception, I check it frequently and read every message I receive. Nobody seems to e-mail me about anything other than being banned though ;_;)
EDIT: Site went down due to a hardware issue. Should be fixed now.

What is this COMMON SENSE shit?

Windows has exploits that simply require you to visit a web site to get infected. Web sites can get infected themselves.

You fucking need antivirus and firewall on your fucking ricers.

90% of exploit websites dont work if you use a non-administrator account.

    THAT'S COMMON SENSE
    >> Anonymous 02/25/10(Thu)16:22 No.8530587
The probability for that is rather small though.
So, statistically, using common sense is more effective than running an antivirus.
    >> Anonymous 02/25/10(Thu)16:23 No.8530591
Please. Not running antivirus is the only risky thing these losers do to feel alive.

Common sense means "use Linux." It's a troll that morons made into a double-troll.

    Yeah, if you're running IE.

I use MSE myself, but I've never actually had to use 'use it' because I don't just download random shit off the internet, or install a gazillion god damn toolbars for IE or some other nonsense.

common sense 2010, the full version, Is the best man,

The reason people here chose to not run an Antivirus solution is simple. They feel like they don´t need it. It is a known fact that virusscanners and security solutions like Norton and McAfee slow your computer down.

There is no reason to use something you do not feel you need to use. One can always secure and monitor their own system manually and perform offline scanning or use an online on-demand scanner every x weeks. Those are valid alternatives to even the lighter virusscanners like nod32 and MSE.

First account is admin by default.
The rest are standard by default.

No. UAC and sudo are completely different.

You can usually only be part of 1 botnet at a time, so join a botnet that tries not to slow down your PC.

after all, anti-virus is a botnet too. gets updated regularly, is always running etc.

I've always wondered. Would it be possible that the same programmers that made Norton and others are the guys making new viruses/trojans/worms?
