Actually yeah. I enjoyed the movie overall, but the one thing that REALLY bugged me was that the alien goo followed no logic whatsoever.

In past Aliens films, we understood that Egg->Facehugger->Chestburster->Xenomorph. It was exotic and alien but that's good, and it felt "real" because it was internally consistent.

In Promethius the black goo was like Red Kryptonite. Will it turn you into a ragezombie? Maybe it'll slowly kill you from the inside. Maybe it'll spawn a squidbaby in your belly, but ONLY if it hitches a ride on some semen first. Seriously by the end of the movie I wouldn't be surprised if it started causing people to turn into lions or grow a second head or start pooping frosted cupcakes.

What people are forgetting is that you have to have some measure of suspension of disbelief when watching a science fiction movie. It's the future, and so certain things are going to seem implausible to us but you have to assume that it's something we've figured out at that point in the timeline.

I do agree that that botanist or whatever was a fucking retard for trying to touch that alien worm, though. Why would he think that was a good idea? So after a years-long journey, you arive at an alien planet, lightyears away from Earth, and then you're briefed on the mission? Wouldn't they get briefed BEFORE GOING TO FUCK KNOWS WHERE?! Holy fucking christ, this made the movie completely retarded, not to mention how it just generally sucks.

Human DNA has 3 billion base pairs. In the movie there is a graph with about 20 data points that shows that the engineer and human DNA "match."

DNA does not "match" even among humans, unless the humans are identical twins. Even if the "match" is supposed to be less strict than that, human DNA will produce a human being, not engineers.

And how was the engineer's DNA seeded on the Earth? It was shredded into strands of about 5 base pairs long and scattered into a river in the Arctic. Completely useless for replicating an individual, let alone a species.

Or was the scattering event supposed to occur before any life existed on Earth? Then where does the DNA of all the other life come from?

In practical terms, the likelihood of life arising independently and using DNA at all is negligible. If that is what they meant by a match, it would have been easy to say so. "This being has DNA!", instead of "This being's DNA matches human DNA!".

The science was just dumbed down to an absurd and insulting degree.

It was ok, but not very memorable. There was hardly any character build-up. They gave Idris Elba an American accent when they didn't need to, simple to perpetuate the notion that Americans are the only people who sacrifice themselves for the good of humanity. The reason the Engineer killed himself during the introduction to the movie was not explained. Not enough jumpy moments compared to the amount of times they tried to build suspense.

So far I have not seen one good argument that there are plot holes in this movie.

There were 2 unnessisary things imho;
1. Charlize Theron's character felt forced. Could have had her not be whats-his-face's daughter and would have been fine. (Also, running in a straight line lawl)

2. The biologist who is freaked out starts poking the face-hugger. GG bro.

Besides that, I enjoyed the movie immensely. I didn't see any major plot holes in it. Most everything people are bringing up in this thread are from either people who didn't watch Alien or people who didn't understand what was going on.
