Education in the US, even public education (strangely, particularly
public education) is commodified to the point where neither students nor
teachers get to be real participants in the system. Nobody in the
schools -- not teachers, not administrators -- is tasked with writing
curricula. Teaching materials are a commodity. The primary
responsibility of a school administrator is to go shopping, not to do
critical evaluation. In fact, in most schools in the US, most school
staff simply isn't technically *capable* of designing a curriculum for
the year. |
