This was an image I posted on /sci/, where I speculated on how time travel would work, without resorting to paradoxes or alternate timelines. Basicly, when you go back in time, your timeline is destroyed, but can still produce time travelers, because the "grandfather cause", or "parent timeline", still exists in the past, with your timeline as its natural conclusion, had you not gone back in time.

Here's an image I also posted on /sci/, where I speculated on the reason why gravity is traditionally depicted in general relativity as being like a sheet, depressed by objects of mass. The model shown here is, as it turns out, completely inaccurate, and betrays my deep ignorance of how cosmology actually works. Nevertheless, it's a cool concept.

All of them-you will always measure radiation at exactly c relative to you. If I shine a flashlight in a spaceship going half c in the direction of the ship's motion, the person on the planet I pass by will still measure that lightwave as c, and so will I.

They are the same because time and space are not absolute. Both of them warp and change depending on your relative velocity-the person on the planet will see me "moving in slow motion," as well as the spaceship being shorter. Similarly, the spaceman observes the same phenomenon on the planet-the people on the planet move in slow motion and the planet is shorter in the direction of motion.

Is there a difference between "relative" time dilation (caused by differing relative velocities) and "absolute" time dilation (caused by things like gravitational fields and acceleration)? Or is all time dilation relative?

There is only relative time dilation. Gravity is a form of acceleration, acceleration is what causes the time dilation for differing relative speeds. It's the solution to the twin paradox-if Jack and Jill are born the same day, Jill goes on to a spaceship at half c, when she comes back she will be younger than jack. Why should this be so if it is the case that both Jack and Jill observed one another to be moving slowly? Jill is younger because she had to accelerate away from Jack-acceleration causes time to behave strangely.

No. I mean that gravity is wholly indistinguishable from acceleration. Physics absolutely does not care if you imagine yourself to be stationary and the planet rushing up towards you in free fall-it will behave precisely the same way.
