I have a job, while going to school at the same time. No, you're speaking from ignorance. Most people don't make it to 30 years. If they stay in long enough to retire, they usually call it quits around 20-25 years in. After that, there are tons of high-paying jobs that require exactly the skills that retired military people have: the ability to manage a hundred to a few thousand people, the ability to creatively think through problems, the ability to take personal responsibility for whatever happens, etc.

If you're going to make a valid criticism of that kind of career path, you'd be better off pointing to the fact that most retired military personnel die within a few years of retirement. They get addicted to the military way of life, and find it very difficult to continue living as a civilian.

The military is far worse than welfare. They get damn near 40K a year for a job that would by minimum wage in the US. They get full pension, medical, food housing and most of the benefits are lifetime. It's a fucking scam to rob the taxpayers. Wages should be equivalent to the private sector, medical should be completely on them with no tax payer support. Their pension should be a 1% contribution to a 401k (and if the government is running a deficit even the 1% match should be canceled). All benefits should cease the day they quit or retire. The GI bill is a fucking mugging of the tax payer and should never have been created.

There are US jobs that pay BELOW minimum wage. Yes that is ILLEGAL. Many immigrant farm laborers (read mexicans) perform menial tasks for extended hours seasonally (meaning you have to move around the country all year to where the work is). We have Mexicans doing this because unemployed Americans think they are too good for it.

There are MANY US business that are willing and able to hire competent employees at a low wage- if they could find any.

Tell that to the Mexicans who walk over our border and find work without even speaking the language much less having high school or college diplomas! They break our laws because things are son much easier here than in their country. Half the countries in the world would do the same if they shared a boarder with us.
