Ask someone who recently ventured into an abandoned hotel anything. I explore deserted/abandoned places in my free time.

Dumping the pictures I took, although my camera died about halfway through the building and I forgot my extra battery.

    Starting at the "entrance"

    Mister explorer guy!

How do you find a place to explore? In my hometown there's a tiny abandoned mall, but I'm worried about police there because it's practically in the middle of the town.

Also: what lie do you come up with so police don't book you (if you've had any encounters)?

Do you explore at night or day?

usually with urbanx (and this works better in smaller towns), lying gets you nowhere. just tell them the truth - you're there to explore and take pictures.

    protips:
-bring a real camera and take pictures to show them. just using your phone won't suffice sometimes.
-having any tools (screwdrivers, multitools, prybars, clippers, etc.) can get you in trouble - possession of burglary tools/attempted burglary
-stealing things from the site will also get you in trouble
-having alcohol, drugs, weapons etc. is obviously a bad thing.
of course, its always good to have a knife with you, but keep it legal (many states dont allow switchblades/fixed blades, etc.)

be honest and they usually will just tell you to leave.

pic: the paper mill's factory floor. friend is in picture.

towns? i dont know, google abandoned and a town near you, then goto discussion results only on google.im from the uk and luckily there is loads of websites.

in the pics was the biggest place probably, the site was pretty big but only a few buildings, we are going to a ex power station soon though, really looking foward to it.

and there is this abandoned mini village near us that we sometimes chill in, however its sketchy, graffiti everywhere, matress, syringes lol and its pretty hot with the police.

all i can say, is have order, keep quiet, avoid using torches in the dark, dont bring tools(although we did) and bring a good camera that you can manually change settings on(for long exposure times)
that way if anyone does come/police, just say your a photographer and that you will leave now, etc.

    Damn shame.

Personally, I have a couple of friends who prefer softcore infiltration into live places (like warehouses n' shit). We don't steal, or anything like that, but it can be fun. Plus knowing and having a good connection with local bums can be useful (you'd be surprised how many good locations you can get for a box of twinkies or a meal from taco bell. If the you are more familiar with the bums, you can cater to their specific needs, like my local pick n slave bum who has a sweet tooth for schnapps).

Also, we will occasionally raid abondoned houses or houses where the occupants recently died. I have a code of honor for the houses of the dead though, no less than a week to allow the next of kin to collect the stuff and we don't take anything too valuable (nothing worth more than a couple hundred bucks, and even that is pushing it).

    Must have been 13-14.

I still remember the fear i felt, jesus fucking christ i was freaking out.

The hospital was also in the middle of a small forest, separated from the population, we ran for fucking hours, scared until we stumbled upon the road, then we just ran at the right direction.

I also remember screaming like a mother fucker when we found the road, like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FREEDOM.

I will never visit an abandoned hospital again, jesus fucking Christ i almost cry just by remembering this.

I'm in Florida and have done some good xplorin, old insane asylum that's no longer there, there was an underground path with blood all over it. Also went in an old movie theatre that was pitch black inside and still had all the seats and shit, super spooky. Another one was an old abandoned black cemetery where a lot of slaves were hung and buried in mass graves. There was a huge ass tree that fell and split a casket open and we could see the coffin that was only buried deep enough for the top of the coffin to not be above ground. There were still marks in the tree from the ropes used to hang them. Also been in an abandoned sex offenders camp in the middle of the woods with about 6 buildings and a meeting area in the middle, pretty much just destroyed what was left of that place and it was tore down a few months later.

Next place I'm hitting up is a huge abandoned hotel (biggest wooden structure in the world), underground rail track, and even some false rooms with the doors sealed shut. I'm not gonna say the name but if you live around pinellis you know where I'm talking about.

I just bring a flashlight and dress for agility

If you go in the woods there is a small train station with two buildings.

If you go back even farther in the woods there is a building with a tower(i have never found it but i know friends that have found it and i have searched for an hour for it)

I do it in the day time though because i heard and seen Hobos back in those buildings.

There are railroad tracks that split glen miller from the woods. You can see the railroad tracks if you stand on the playground and look northwest(there will be a couple of tables to eat at and a tree line that is right next to the railroad tracks. Just walk down those until you see two small abounded buildings(there is also a trail that leads to it but thats a little tougher to explain)

The building with the tower back in the woods is harder to find though. You have to follow a trail then the trail ends then you have to walk through a lot of brush and bushes to get to it but i do not know the exact way.

I remember on a bikeride during the summer a couple years back I found an abandoned warehouse or something and totally looked through it, man all those "Keep out" signs make it so much more enticing. I remember it was so busted down, there were lots of dark rooms, busted walls and debris everywhere. The place was such a mess! There was also lots of graffiti on the walls, which made it pretty scary. Would've taken pics but i'm retarded, hurr durr.

OP: ever see or hear about the Beryllium plant in Luckey? It's a 40-acre site that is supposed to get cleaned up.

Any NJ fags in here? Me and my girl went to Greystone mental hospital a few weeks ago... shit was mad freaky. We went to some side building that was from what I got a school of some sort. Power generator was still running, with the lights on. But the building was in a complete state of disarray.

Needless to say we got about 20 feet in before the girl chickened out... but she promised to go back as long as we bring weapons

NJ is seriously a goldmine for this shit though

OP, if you ever travel to California, you NEED to stop by this town called "Trona". It's where I grew up, it's been lost to meth-heads and there's not many huge buildings to explore but tons and tons and tons of abandoned houses. I've heard stories from my mother that some people went into a house, stepped on broken glass, and got AIDS though, so you gotta be careful. There's one half-burnt-down hotel I've explored that is just scary as shit. I went in there as a kid with my friend, and we saw scary shit ranging from pictures of dead mice hanging on the walls and pentagrams lined with blood. It's where I saw my first picture of a naked lady, and where I saw my first naked lady (she was high off either crack or meth). It's gotta be really old, and it's gonna come crashing down pretty soon (like 9/11 all over again), which might be lulzy considering the other half of the hotel is active. I remember going in there alone as a dare from my friends, and when I was walking in the second story, the floor fell through and I fucked my leg up. My friends finally came to me after like 10 minutes of screaming, where they proceeded to poke me with a rusted bungee cord and call me a faggot.

I fucking love getting lost in memories, nostalgia so hard right now.

there's an old barn thats supposedly haunted by me (shoe factory rd for chicagoburbfags) and i took a camera and filled 3/4 of the roll with pics from inside the barn. EVERY single picture from there came out fucked up, shit kinda creeps me out.

a dude supposedly hung himself there and i found a rope and tied a noose and hung it from the ceiling. every time i went up there or heard people talking about it people were so creeped out by the noose alone. i'd just laugh and call em pussies.

You sound like an ill prepared hipster. you should at least be bringing a mask or a respirator, you have no idea whats trapped in the air in some of those abandoned buildings.

OP, what are you the most concernerd about when you go on these outings? for me, it's definitely gangsters, as they can be very territorial (and carry guns more often than not). I'm sure I could outrun a crackhead, and police have better things to do than gaurd an ABANDONED warehouse...
