You
and I both know that the pacifists would hold to their pacifist
beliefs, at the expense of their own freedom, their families, their
homes, and their livelihoods. Like any extremist ideology, it goes to
far. There is a time and a place where violence needs to be met with
violence, and where only violence will secure the things you hold dear.
"Those
who 'abjure' violence can only do so because others are committing
violence on their behalf. [...] these facts are grossly obvious if one's
emotions do not happen to be involved: but to the kind of person named
in each case they are also INTOLERABLE, and so they have to be denied,
and false theories constructed upon their denial."
George Orwell, "Notes on Nationalism," 1945-ish. (Yes, *that* George Orwell.)
What
would I do? I'd nut up, grab a rifle, and start shooting - but then I'm
not a pacifist. My only regret would be that I'd have to save a bunch
of simpering candy-asss who "abjure violence" who happen to live in the same country as I do, while protecting the things I love. |
