I cant speak for the OPriest but i'll tell you that, having served in several churches, that you have churhces who actively fright gnosticism and those that embrace it.

At the end of the day is is considered a heresy. Christanity teaches that we are totally seperated from God by sin. Our ability to produce or achieve our own salvation (or in the gnostic sense, our own divinity) is impossible. We lack the ability to achieve "eternal goodness" apart from God.

But as for churches that embrace gnosticism, some realize what they are doing; some dont. Liberal progressive Christianity rejects total depravity, so it makes sense for them to believe that our own divinity is possible and achievable through works. Some have even rejected talking about the Holy Spirit in exchange for holy Spirit--that spirit of goodness and chastity that exists in all of us.

Why does God exist? and if he does, what's the point in creating us? Also, if the aim is to get into heaven, what's the point in any of that even existing anywhere? To me, it intuitively makes more sense that something sprang from nothing, otherwise you have to keep explaining why something exists which is impossible.
