My youth was far from wasted but the exclusivity I had earned came crashing down when I was falsely accused of a sex crime by a vindictive ex-wife.

I took and passed polygraph after polygraph and psych interview after psych interview but I still lost my security clearance.

Now I'm a fucking zero in that world. That HIGH paying world. Six figures flushed.

I went back to school to learn emergency medicine and became a paramedic. I'm still in school trying for an RN license so I can get a job on a helicopter doing emergency rescue.

Thank God I am intelligent. I would be up shit creek if all I had was my security history.

Exactly correct. Unless you go for a degree in a trade / profession, your degree means you're not a dolt and are at least qualified to be considered.
    >> Anonymous 04/25/10(Sun)15:25:15 No.220713XXX
The way things are going nowadays, you need to be in school for 6 years and then do some shit-paying job for a another year or two before you can start actually working as what you set out to do in the first place... So 8 years in and you're still eating shit. Hopefully after that you actually get payed properly and can practice what you studied.

I agree.. Most non technical majors are a waste.. you surely wont get a job as an engineer without college.. You might be called an Engineer.. But your not designing things without a shit ton of knowledge, you probably would not learn on the job..

Doctors don't make shit unless they go into private-practice and specialize in a field that is in high-demand that nobody wants to work in.

Lawyers only make shit AFTER they win some big, well-known cases but good luck trying to do that when the people who are important enough to boost your career only want to higher people who already have a reputation.

That's because you never took History. It's about learning to think, analyze, present your case logically, because all you have to do is write essays all the damn time.

Every time you take a case you're basically giving a mixed oral and written essay on why this guy isn't guilty, or why your interpretation of this contract is wrong.

I have taken business law classes before, and I love it.. i just dont see myself being a pathetic POS divorce attorney.. Wow, making money tearing families apart.. Fuck, I'd rather file asbestos claims and make money than divorce.. maybe M&A law

Looks like a lot of lawschool hopeful fags are in here.

Bottom line, they only look at two things:
    1. Undergrad GPA
    2. LSAT score

If you're still undecided, do a practice LSAT right now. If you find it impossible, law school might not be for you. In that case, don't take a pussy major just for the sake of putting your undergrad GPA on steroids and hoping for law school because it won't happen.

those degrees could even get you hired at the FBI, too.

and yes, military, intelligence and law enforcement also give you a step above others. so if you really wanted to, you could join a police department that gives quick promotions to detective, like the NYPD (if youre in an investigative department after 18 months its an automatic promotion) which youre working on law school, then join the FBI.

a security clearance is worth at least $10,000 alone. the DoD is willing to pay roughly $60-80K for IT pros. Then get a cushy job overseas and you're making upwards of $100K without even having moved a muscle.

29 year old college educated fag here. I make $90k per year, travel, and more or less am responsible for my own schedule. I stay in nice hotels, have a corporate card, routinely end up at fine dining establishments (hence the corporate card), and the roughest part of my day is waking up early enough to catch my next flight. Your degree is most likely worth it. That's not saying you can't get places without one, but I had my first $100k year when I was 27 because of my degree.

Skipped school a lot in year 10, never revised for my GCSE exams. Somehow managed to get into college which I hated. Stuck it out for 3 months before I stopped going. Now at aged 21 I'm stuck in a somewhat dead end job and going back to college in September to redo my maths, English and science GCSE's.

I keep comparing my life to my girlfriends life. She fucked up her GCSE's but redid them and did A levels at age 17. She's the same age as me and a year away from graduating University and majoring in criminology.

I intend to go back to college to do some sort of computer course to become a fully qualified technician after I've redone my GCSE's but I've left it too late for university because if I do end up there I'll graduate at the age of 28 and be £20000 in debt.

On the bright side though I later found out that the tutors on my college course fucked up the marking and voided all the coursework so dropping out of college ended up being inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. I still regret dropping out though.

I was always the nerdy type in high school and decided to study physics. I'm on track and doing very well, but always got shit from peers thinking I should switch to engineering, that I'm wasting my time, "ENJOY TEACHING HERP DERP," etc.

I really don't give a fuck. I had a happy youth and apparently I need to go to university, so here I am. It's an interesting subject and I'll be going to graduate school and probably finish by age 28. Depressing to others who apparently want to jump into life and get jobs and get married and all that shit.

I don't care about money. Society and parents tell me to get an education so I am. My parents are basically paying for everything and don't give a shit what my major is, just to get a degree.

I don't really understand the notion that one "needs" to get a particular degree in a field to do something. I'm not going to be a medical doctor, so I can't obviously jump into things like that. I'd love to research interesting things and get paid for it. In the end I'll probably do peoples' taxes or balance their books. Who knows? Who cares?

Sorry sir, but I'm not justifying anything. I like what I'm learning and if you are a btard you certainly have a videogame you like or better yet a movie you like that incorporates 3D. I'm ashamed of nothing. And you call a BS a tangible learning experience. Why follow something that isn't your dream or pursuit in life. Just because it pays well doesn't mean it's fun or worthwhile. I'd also encourage you to look at the mean salary of a 3d animator working full time. If you're too lazy it's over 50k after college. And over 100k after 10 years. No one says it's easy. It's hard work /b/rother, but not all of us want to be doctors or lawyers. And I'm sure plenty of others will agree with me.

If you plan to do something like engineering, medial, law, science, etc. a degree is practically a necessity.

Its possible to make i without a degree, but it requires a lot of your own personal time, money, and dedication...considering the people on here who think college is a waste, I'd assume you have none of those.

People always point to the success stories--the one or two people who never went to college yet make shitloads. But what about the other 99% of people, who never went to college and done make shit?

To the people who dont plan on going to college--life's gonna be rough for you, at least for a few years. Nobody's going to hand you everything you need in life, youre gonna have to work for it all.

To the people who went to college but thought it was a waste--did you really think going through community college with a shitty GPA would cut it? Going to college doesn't guarantee success, it still takes work. And lets say you did go to a good college, maybe a state school--chances are you took some bullshit major like art history, slid your way through smoking pot the whole time, and expected to get a great job coming out. Obviously, it didnt happen. Now, youre pissed and think college in general is useless.

Basically, life takes work. Get the fuck over it.

the secret to success isnt any of the bullshit you learn in the education system or any of this business philosophy that all successful businessmen seem to preach, all of that cliched shit, cos if that worked everyone would be a success, the secret to success is taking the thing that you are best at and nurturing it and nurturing it until you are among the best, forget degrees and shit, what people dont seem to realise is its the knowledge thats important in school not the pieces of paper you get at the end

I graduated about 6 months ago so I'm about to start paying it off, but I had a full tuition scholarship so I only owe about 5k.

Anyway, it wasn't the education I got that I'm grateful for as much the access to professional film equipment and the network I gained in proving myself to my peers.

It seems the younger generation only thinks about women and money. I just want enough money to pay my bills and have extra money at the end. Who cares what I have to do? It's a bit pointless to study something just for the money, because there are THOUSANDS of more people doing the exact same thing as you and you must compete against them. You simply just don't grab a degree and expect 6 figures. You'll be fighting with everyone else!

If you think travel is an attraction to a job position, you're either lying or you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Traveling for a job sucks - big time.

It's fun at first, yes. It's different. It's new. That's what's called the romance period.

Retard posers and liars don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

A job I hate that makes me rich is tolerable but not preferable.

In the United States, it's a goal to have huge houses, huge cars, new things, jump into marriage (which I guess is costly), and much more. But that amount would do fine for the rest of my fine. Pay my bills and enough for books and other things that keep me entertained.

How do you get into something like this? I recently decided the same route. I want to work in film to some capacity but games sounds like an easier area to get into for now. I have looked at several schools like digipen and full sail but they are expensive and my parent saved zip for my education.

I was looking at Cal State universities but I could not find any with anything for aspiring game designers. I was hoping to work with 3D.

Went to University for 5 years for BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology. Learned that education difficulty does not directly translate into the outcoming salary.

Joined the Army 3 years ago. Found High School dropouts making more cash than my peers who had graduated University with me. But I also learned that a big check is not everything to value if you hate your work, bosses, work conditions, etc.

But some people getting trapped in a "swamp" career where they have kids, buy a house, get a wife who runs their bills up, or fools around and divorce them. Where people end up completely unable to quit there job and they become trapped in something they hate for the next 20 years. Then they get thown a gold watch and told to GTFO and they're left with nothing.

    Money is never everything.
Pusssy is definately a major career motivator, but that can be easily bought with either cash or cocaine. It's pretty fleeting.

So even at the lowest income area, a full-time employee ought to make 55k+ unless he really sucks...

yeah, it's possible. to me, the ends didn't justify the means. you also have to travel ALOT. you travel CONSTANTLY. playing gigs all over the world. which is fun for the first couple of years but it burns you out.

Again, not for me. If i'm traveling so much for work, i'm gonna do it for more than $25K a year, which is what i was making.

    lulz at morons here.

    yes lib arts = shit

    but professions are leet:
    business, engineering, etc

2nd level like or med are also pro
debts pile, but that's only for a few years. once you make 120k, then you pay for it fast, HOWEVER, it's pointless unless you go to a top school (or close to it) bc of the economy.

23, Master's in Accountancy (in 2 weeks) and a CPA by the end of the summer

Law school in 2+ years (all paid for by parents, so eat shit and die debts)
