you uneducated fucks at /b/. Here's a lesson on Autism.
ASD
stands for Autimis Spectrum Disorders. They come in varying levels, from
degenerative brain diseases soon to be reclassified, to low
functioning, to high functioning. High functioning Autism is called
Asperger Syndrome.
Autism's diagnosed symptomatically, as are
most other neural diseases such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc.
Autistic individuals have to meet at least three symptomatic
criteria, which include some kind of inability to play with other
children, reclusiveness, and typically some kind of advanced ability
(i.e. building amazing things with legos).
One thing common
among all ASD people is the enlarged cells in the cerebellum. Typically
the right hemisphere of the cerebellar vermis is affected. No one knows
what that area of the brain's responsible for, but from limited brain
injury cases it's thought to be responsible for coordination tasks,
certain audiovisual perception of time, and preternatural perceptions.
Often
the frontal and prefrontal cortexes (social) cortexes of the brain show
irregular activity. The amigdala is usually also affected. Sometimes
autistic individuals are born with low levels of myelin, which is the
fatty substance known as gray matter that helps dendrites communicate.
Autistic
individuals perceive the world completely different from us. Some can't
find meaning in actual sounds, only rythms, others find paradise in
colors, others can't see movement at all. Many mimic others because they
don't know how to behave since they are in a completely different world
and have to find ways to fit in.
