It's a shame it has come to this, anon, but after reading the provisions for the ACTA bill I've no choice but to send a rather right winged message to Faux News in hopes of having their hound dogs tear Obama a new asshole for supporting it. Dumping letter written to Faux News.

For fags who don't know, ACTA will basically fuck you in the ass in regards to internet anonymity, threatening mass censures, seizures of electronics and forcing ISP's to take a hard cock up their ass while forcing them to hand over your information.

    commence dump!
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)01:04:10 No.211536XXX
As an avid supporter of civil liberties - including laws regarding censorship and technology, I'm concerned about reports that the trade agreement being negotiated behind closed doors may contain provisions that could harm my own civil liberties and privacy rights, and damage the environment for innovation and technological development within the United States.

I'm particularly disturbed that such a wide-reaching treaty is being rushed through negotiations by the end of this year, without any congressional oversight - senators and H.R have had no input on the treaty. Currently in its sixth round of negotiations, it includes among others the United States. As an executive agreement, all that is required is Obama's signature - and that signature once again expands the ever expanding government that are slowly taking away our basic rights.

Instead of targeting counterfeit products and coordinating the practices of national customs agencies as originally announced, leaked documents indicate that ACTA includes provisions that increase Internet intermediary liability, regulate access to the Internet and significantly affect the rights of all American citizens. As I mentioned earlier, because ACTA is being negotiated as an Executive Agreement, there is no Congressional oversight. I am worried that ACTA will threaten the carefully crafted balance of US copyright law that protects citizens' freedom of expression and has been key to the success of the US technology industry - if implemented, fair use as we know it will be gone.

Don't take my word for it: Attached is the leaked document that is written currently, here are a few excerpts.

Article 2.1 [US/J(Japan):Availability of Civil Procedures] [EU: Scope of the Civil Enforcement]

    1. Each Party shall make available to right holders (copyright, patents, trademarks) procedures concerning the enforcement of any [US/J: intellectual property right]

[2. EU/Can/NZ: Those measures, procedures, and remedies shall also be effective, proportionate, and deterrent.]

    Article 2.X: Injunctions

OPTION 1: In civil judicial proceedings concerning the enforcement of (intellectual property rights) each Party shall provide that its (judicial authorities) shall have the authority to issue an order to a party to desist from an infringement, including an order to prevent infringing goods from entering into the channels of commerce.

    Skip ahead to article 2.7..
    Article 2.7: Ex-Officio Action

    1. Each Party (United States/Japan: shall) provide that its customs authorities may act upon their own initiative, to suspend the release of counterfeit trademark goods or SUSPECTED pirated copyright goods with respect to imported goods including counterfeit trademark goods or SUSPECTED pirated copyright goods admitted to, withdrawn from or located in free trade zones.

    2. Each Party may also provide that its customs authorities may act upon their own initiative, to suspend the release of goods SUSPECTED of infringing other intellectual property rights.

Article 2.8: Provision of Information From Right Holder

With respect to the procedures described in articles 2.6 and 2.7 each, Each Party shall have in place procedures enabling right holders to supply the competent authorities with sufficient information to assist them in taking border measures provided for under this section. Each Party may authorize the competent authorities to request right holders to supply any such information.

    SUPPORT BUMP
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)01:06:03 No.211537XXX
    >>211537240

    Article 2.11

    1. Each Party Shall have in place procedures whereby the competent authorities may provide that goods that have been forfeited as infringing following a determination under article 2.10 shall be destroyed, except in exceptional circumstances.

(Giving the government the right to seize your personal electronics and, upon discovery of a single infringement, grounds for destruction?)

And finally, to top this wonderful bill off:

    Article 2.13 Disclosure of Information

Where the competent authorities have made a determination under Article 2.10 that the suspected infringing goods infringe an intellectual property right, the Party shall grant its competent authorities the authority to inform the right holder of the names and addresses of the consignor, the importer, and the consignee and of the quantity of the goods in question. (Internet service providers, as an "importer", will be forced by law to comply and hand over information regarding the offender.)

President Obama implicitly supports this bill under the guise of national security - by removing what little privacy we have left and censoring our freedom of expression to the whim of Big Government.
I've attached the current bill's provisions as a backup to all I have said.
    -- A concerned citizen

Stopping ACTA is more important than supporting either party. What we should ALL be doing is emailing and calling our senators/congressmen (regardless of party) and telling them that ACTA is bullshit. Tell the repubs that it's more big government and just another reason to arrest people they don't like. Tell liberals that it's a violation of free speech or something, compare it to when printing presses first came out and everyone freaked out about books being copied and distributed, even though it lead to an intellectual revolution (the renaissance).

I guess it's worth a try, but a more worthwhile effort would be to get organized, get real people on real streets under that burning sun. The internet is a big place with a lot of people on them. If we got really organized, like Moot making an anti-ACTA board for all boards to congregate in and plan on, then we could do something. We would have to put all our differences aside (recruit AnT, Ebaums, the other chans) and get out onto the streets and protest. We could have threads for every area, states with enough people could congregate at capitols, other states (South/North Dakota) could get together with other states and have demonstrations too. We can stop this, they can't ignore protests that are happening throughout the country. I suppose Eurofags could do this too, protests worldwide.

This is why I hate copyright in the first place. "OH NOES YOU WATCHED MY MOVIE WITHOUT PAYING ME HURR".

Seriously, if you are a TRUE artist, the money doesn't matter. It's all about putting yourself out there and touching people's lives. I realize it's mostly the companies who put money into the artist though.

I'm an American and I admit that most of this copyright shit started in the United States and is most anally protected by the same. We're the reason international law has been going toward pro-copyright enforcement. We keep letting middlemen bone us in every way possible. If this law passes as written, they win. The money-grubbing investors who didn't put ANY effort into creating art are going to make most of the money off of everything.

I'm usually pretty conservative in my morals but when it comes to money I think this is just way too strict. Why is Obama supporting such a freedom-limiting bill in the first place? I mean fuck he's supposed to be a liberal.

If this passes I'm going to support independent films and anything that is legitimately free. If you copyright something, then fuck you. Copyright would be okay if it was just a record that YOU created something so others couldn't take credit for it. But nobody cares about that aspect. They just care who's getting paid.

I'm tired of my own country trying to push its insane standards upon everyone, within itself and internationally.

If this goes too far, I say revolution.

Be careful who you get to back you. You don't want to see this story on fox news followed by live footage of some toothless racist redneck yelling "Down for the ACTA!" in the background.

Personally I think this will have to gain more momentum before the media will see the user's side of the story. Everyone should start papering their classrooms and campuses with this information before you start trusting fox news to do something good for you.

    that is all.
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)01:41:48 No.211547XXX
Basically what this is going to do is turn the internet into a TV like system where certain website wont be available unless you pay for them.

Also EVERYTHING on the net with be scrutinized for copyright infringement.

If an eight year old kid draws a shitty picture of Dora the Explorer, she can be sued for copyright infringement.

This would pretty much kill 99% of all traffic to sites like 4chan and other sites of free expression were images might be used to send a message.

You wont be able to do shit, the whole fucking internet will just be one big fucking advertisement and there will be nothing but corporation websites.

To me the internet is truly the last free place left. If this passes, we are no more.

I think Anon needs to start holding our own protests all over the country about this. We can organize local factions to protest and spread the word.

As much as I abhor Fox News and other skewed news networks, this needs to have more attention and more shit done about it. As long as people hear it, see it, they're going to learn about it, regardless of who's fucking opinion is being inserted into it. I'm emailing Fox, I'm calling my congressmess, my Representatives AND my Senators. I'm called the White House, I'm making signs and banners and stencils. OP here.

    Basic rundown:

ACTA will ensure that the government, at their own discretion, may seize your electronics in suspicion of harboring copyrighted material. If found, it is grounds for immediate destruction. The bill will force ISP's to hand information over to the government for suspected illegal file sharing, or in violation of their copyright rights. Fair use will be, essentially, void.

Singing about it. Seriously, protest songs motherfuckers. What makes a riot chant a beautiful assembly of freedom and speech? Music.

If despite protests they pass the laws, start boycotting all media that worked toward it. Don't listen to any music or watch any movies that are expressly protected by RIAA and MPAA respectively. Support independent media, even though it may not be as "polished" especially if the creators are against this bill as well.

Don't give them the money they're grubbing for.

For everyone bitching about Fox News being used to accomplish our goals, all I have to say is: It's called a deus ex machina, limpdicks. Read up on it. The enemy of your enemy can be your friend, if only in that limited scope and context. We really DO need to start shit. I'm not advocating overthrowing anything yet (since I'm on 4chan and in this thread in particular, I'm pretty sure I -- and everyone else here -- is quite fertile ground for NSA monitoring), but something definitely NEEDS to be done. About this, and all other retarded IP "protection" measures. I am an avid pirate, and I'd still pirate if I had enough money to actually buy the stuff. I bought Serenity, and the Firefly box-set. You know why? Because I SUPPORT them. I actually WANTED to give my hard-earned dollars to them, to support what they do, and what they did. I know that 99% goes to the asstards who were responsible for canceling the show in the first place, but there's still that 1%, and I'm happy with that. At the moment, it's a sick "best case scenario", and I'll have to live with it. Everything else out there, for the most part, is worth watching if I'm baked out of my skull, and if I'm just bored and too lazy to read a goddamn book. But still, this is about more than just piracy. This is about the whole goddamn Internet. The DMCA and its ilk have been abused in ways that the original authors couldn't have even CONCEIVED of happening... hopefully.

And another quick rundown - darker, though.

If this treaty is passed, it will create another multinational organization solely dedicated to tracking POSSIBLE illegal file sharers. Sharing a song with a friend? Grounds for a search. Actually, they don't even need probable cause to search your electronics. On the very real chance you actually have a song downloaded from ????, the government will have grounds for immediate destruction of YOUR property. If not, there's a provision that will let them hold on to it for as long as they'd like.

Your internet service provider will be forced to comply with the government in handing over your personal information, if even suspected of engaging in activity that "infringes" upon their "intellectual properties".

The internet, as you know it, will be gone.

Anyone who actually thinks the goal of this "treaty" is actually to protect copyright-holders is naive to no end. This isn't about protecting anyone's intellectual property; this is about controlling what they don't have copyrighted. Journalists are now afraid of reporting openly and honestly, because they could be sued for it, by precedent set earlier.

    http://www.eff.org/wp/unintended-consequences-under-dmca
    -----
CNET News reporter Declan McCullagh confronted the chilling effect of the DMCA firsthand. While research a story in 2002, he found four documents on the public website of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The website disclosed that the documents contained information about airport security procedures, the relationship between federal and local police, and a "liability information sheet." A note on the site stated that this "information is restricted to airport management and local law enforcement." The documents were distributed in encrypted form and a password was required to open and read them.

McCullagh obtained the passwords from an anonymous source, but did not open the documents, citing concerns that using a password without authorization might violate the DMCA. This is particularly ironic, as any foreign journalist beyond the reach of the DMCA would be free to use the password.

"Journalists traditionally haven't worried about copyright law all that much," said McCullagh, "But nowadays intellectual property rights have gone too far, and arguably interfere with the newsgathering process."

The worst thing about this is that it is a treaty. It can bypass all this other shit without consequence, all you have to do is get the two leaders to sign it and bam. Nobody else has a say in it.

All of you kids who are talking about letting people know, don't for a second think your voice will be heard. When the government is passing a bill that will violate our rights, why the fuck would they give a shit that people don't want it to happen? It was the same thing that happened with health care, peiple bitched and moaned, yet the package shipped. We are in debt as a country, and major lobbyists want this shit passed. Until the higher ups stop caring about money, we are at the mercy of greed.

Obama is one of the ones who is fighting against transparency. He's let us all down, making promises in the beginning that sounded so amazing and wonderful that they couldn't possibly be true. And, like a battered housewife, we thought to ourselves, "Whoa. He's not Bush, and he's not McCain, etc., so he can't be ALL bad. I'm willing to believe in what he's saying, because I've given up all hope of anything good happening." In that moment of weakness, he exploited the shellshock of the People, and swore oaths he did not, will not, and can not follow through on.

" Reported by Michael Geist, the leak (German, English translation) shows that the United States, no big surprise, have been one of the players in blocking transparency, but there were other countries as well" [

Fight the tyranny. Fight it with your last breath, and with every drop of your blood. But make sure you're wearing a mask while you do it.

This applies even if only in a metaphorical way. The same end-goals could easily be achieved (or at least advanced) by way of seemingly unrelated acts of mischief. Take out the tertiary targets. NEVER go after the big game, because that could end it all before it begins. Make sure you leave a way in, make a small destabilization that could help you wedge your way in. Then, once it comes to the right time, advance and succeed.

Of course, we would have to be the only ones who knew about that, and that is entirely opposite to the methods we're using. Even talking about it in this thread like this is possibly undermining the thought. But still... food for thought.

So... basically... you're saying that in this, the issue that all started because of piracy and pirates (at least, that's the "official" reason), we need a king? I like where this is going... pic related.

Proxies aren't just limited to the interbutts. Take lessons from your enemies, and learn to fight them with the same guerrilla tactics that they've been ambushing you with all these years. We only need to show that our will to fight is stronger than theirs. After that, there's at least a little bit of doubt installed, Keyzer Soze style. More people keep doing it, the more they run around trying to ease the tides, which means their vision is no longer as straight-ahead as it was. Just sayin'...
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)02:47:09 No.211566XXX
You are retarded if you think Fox News gives a rat's ass about freedom. They're a propaganda network -- that's what THEY do.
Right-wingers aren't about |freedom| either. They'll gladly kill a woman thinking about having an abortion or throw you in jail for wearing a pot leaf symbol.

Honestly, your problem here is that Obama isn't left-wing enough. He's making concessions to corporations in the name of capitalist economics instead of going social democrat and letting the workers determine how they want to distribute the wealth.

on the surface yes, but its the "intentions" of allowing police to assume the role of copyright police in our lives that is the underlying problem, the same thing with cameras on every corner, they claim its only taking pictures of criminals, but in all honesty, people have become accustomed to having a policeman in their life at all times

its invasion of privacy at its finest, and its catering to corporations

its not the action but the ideals that we are fighting
