yeah, it's worth it. hire a lawyer...cheaper in the long run. Or, just plead with the judge...tell him you'll take a defensive driving course if he won't issue points to your license. That's cheaper than a lawyer, but you have to give up 8 hours of your life for a class.

just go to court and ask to be sent to driving school...you're paying for it and it gives them less work to do. easy as pie.

I got a $154 ticket for taking a left turn on a green light at 12:30 at night, because my drunk friends called me and asked me to pick them up from a club.

Apparently it's the only green light in the city where you can't take a left turn; mind you, there's no median or anything keeping you from actually taking a left turn. You simply can't take one.

I got a ridiculously priced ticket, and must take driving school to lower the points off my license. This is the first time in the four years I've been driving that I've even been pulled over by a cop mind you.

And I didn't go to court.

If you go to court, the charges are dropped, but an amount between 0 and $500 is given to you instead, based on the judge's whim. Very rarely are they lowered, especially when you did something wrong (as opposed to me, where it's only illegal because they decide they want a trap to catch people in).

So fuck your speeding, kid.

See if there's a Driver Improvement Program of some sort that you can take in lieu of points.

That's what I did when I got a ticket for 95 on a 65. I had to take a 4 hour course, pay around $300, but my insurance didn't go up and no points on the license.

go to court. if the officer doesn't show up, it's thrown out. best bet is spending a saturday afternoon at a defensive driving class.

it's worth going to court. When you go there, they will have someone talk to you about your options, which are different depending on which state you're in. With mine, I had the option of fighting it (trying to get out completely - but you would have to say you aren't guilty, which I'm assuming you are) and have the possibility of getting the full shit (plus court fees), or I could pay the fine and have it taken off my record (as long as I don't get anymore speeding tickets for the next year). It's worth not having on your record, though... trust me.

The fine is mandatory, the driving course is only if you want to avoid points on your license (which increases insurance).

So basically it's smarest to do both.

yeah, you still have to pay the fine, but you don't get points. and you'll have to pay about $100 for the driving course...but it's waaaayyy cheaper than points, and nothing goes on your record.
