02/20/10(Sat)09:47:57 No.199523217It's
ridiculous to suggest blocking people coming to the country based on
race.
The answer is to judge each individual as they stand. If
they can offer something beneficial to the country, are willing to
follow our laws and culture, and integrate, then that's fine.
Face
it, the UK is not a pure nation. We are, and always have been, a mix of
cultures. Hell, we are 4 nations to begin with, and most of our culture
is a mix that has come from across the empire. This has always been to
our strength. The reason we could be so successful was due to our
ability to embrace anything that was good. If you trace back we have
ancestors from all across Europe.
It is not simply a question of
we should let in all immigrants, but rather we should let in any
immigrant that is going to benefit our society, and fit in.
I
agree that there are many people in the country who are not working, who
are refusing to try and learn English, or to try and fit in with the
culture. The current system is not good enough. That said, a system
where we don't allow immigrants or don't allow certain races will fail
just as badly. No immigration is a terrible idea as it's truly a good
thing with the right people.
Each individual should be judged on
their own merits, regardless of everything else. At the moment there is a
shift where minorities get superior treatment because of knee-jerk
overreaction and people trying to meet targets. Shifting it back the
other way is just as bad. We need to stay calm and sort it out logically
and fairly. |
