day/month/year makes sense because it goes from smallest units to largest

alternatively year/month/day is also in some order although it's not as useful to see the year first as most people know what year it is already seeing the day first is more useful

larger values go on the left 1024 for example...

Ideally it would go Y/M/D however usually the year is an after-thought clarification... so we say M/D and someone asks "what year?" and we fill that in... hence M/D/Y

The reason we here in the UK who btw run the international date/timezones have it as DD/MM/YY is because that is chronological and thats a path of progression as time actually is as we measure it.

The date is normally the most pressing issue, not many people will ask what month or year we are in.

    Thus: Day/Month/Year

    Small, bigger, biggest.

When programming, Y/M/D makes more sense.
