for some of us, even the nearest consulate is many hours away. That
would turn this into a two- or three-day affair.
Example: I live
in a city of moderate size. You have heard of it before, I guarantee.
The nearest consulate is five-and-a-half hours away by car, in Houston.
I'd love to show support, but this is a significant undertaking, and
even if a protest were well-organized there, I would hesitate to go.
Driving that long is exhausting. If I took our trai/n/ system, it would
be about 50 USD and 9.5 hours each way, plus whatever local transit
costs, plus lodging. Not even considering airplane.
tl;dr: We
cannot turn on a dime, Macross-style. This operation would require
significant planning on our part and the time in which to do it. We have
neither. |
