A great man died today. And people have hardly noticed, but I guess that's probably the way he would have wanted it.

No, really? Oh man, Catcher in the Rye was one of my favorites.

Every /b/tard has read Catcher in the Rye. And in one way or another it influenced the way we see the world.

What a shame these people don't even know who he is. He was pretty damn reclusive though wasn't he?
    >> Anonymous 01/28/10(Thu)20:37:02 No.192364890
Hardly noticed? It was on CNN and BBC all day. Here in Brazil I've seen it on national TV at least 4 times today, not to mention it was all the Interwebs talked about. Anyway, he was a great man indeed. Both the Catcher and the Nine Stories compilation were delightful pieces.

    goddamn this sucks.
he was one of my favorite authors

1980: "There's no more to Holden Caulfield. Read the book again. It's all there. Holden Caulfield is only a frozen moment in time," Salinger told the Boston Globe.

    What a man.
I guess you could say he went a little overboard with the whole moving into the middle of the woods thing.
But, it's understandable why he would want to.
I kinda wished that I could meet him someday - kinda like sasquatch hunting, but pursuing something that actually exists.

No one I know said anything IRL, but the sampling wasn't really accurate since the number of people I know is quite modest.

I recently picked up Catcher in the Rye at the book store at my college.
I read the first couple pages, but got tied up (had to read it senior year in high school, so I've already read it). I think I'm gonna read it again over the weekend.

    I hope your trolling.
He didn't kill him, the guy that killed him was holding "Catcher in the Rye" in his hands when he shot him.

I've never read his most acknowledged work. But it must've been good enough for a deranged man to decide he is God's hand in killing hypocrites.
