The epic thread is a strange creature in the sense that it's kinda like bigfoot; plenty of people claim to have seen it, but it's much too sparse to know when or where it may come.

There are also various types of epic threads. Some people have taken to it like they would a chess game. Have it planned out and be many moves ahead so that they can keep things flowing or counter any newfags that try to throw a curveball in.

Other people have just gone with the "throw something down and hope it catches" approach. Both methods are hit or miss since it's entirely up to the community of /b/ to determine exactly what flavour of thread they want.

The problem with "win" is that it is subjective to the audience. And as we all know, one person's win is another person's "epic fail".

A good tactic to being an epic thread is to start quiet. Try to blend in while things are starting up so that the obligatory "You sir are and idiot" Doesn't happen right away. We all know the thread that tries to be all that right away is bound to fail. Forced seldom works.

I believe that the chess approach has some of the best outcomes. EFG does this approach and it usually ends up with spectacular amounts of win.

People need to stop with the copypasta and samefaggotry that plagues /b/. Sometimes it's results are amusing, but epic is seldom achieved through a Slowpoke combo or something everyone has seen over 9000 times.

On a side note towards epic threads, there's always the claim of newfag and oldfag. I'm starting to think that it's not really a matter of there being less win on /b/, but more politics and people trying to compare the simplicity of old /b/.

Old /b/ was young, memes were few, OC was much easier. Then as time progressed, the randomness had to be stepped up a notch. Now we are at a point where it almost seems people have to try too hard to be random in order to acheive epic status.

The meaning has become an imitation of itsself. And impression of an original that defeats the fucking purpose. And thus, epic is harder to get.

Sometimes its almost nice to be posting in a thread that nobody is paying much attention to right away. It gives the OP time to relax and just do what he wants in the thread. It might not be epic, but at least he doesn't have to worry about every other person wanting to combo break or just generally fucking things up.

I, personally, don't aim for epic. I aim for OC. I want to see something new just like the rest of us, the difference is I don't want to sit and wait for it.

Of course in my attempt to make something original, it ended up getting shot down because it wasn't original to the world. It was a rehash of old sketch comedy that I had not seen in years and had not seen on /b/, so I figured "hey why not".

You know, he's got a point there.

I want to see less striving for epic, and more OC. That would bring us back to our glory.

I've been called out... I am OC but even I have ended up just the same old thing with different outcomes.
