06/25/09(Thu)18:14:41 No.143474095most people don't survive cardiac arrest, especially if the actual arrest event is unwitnessed.
10
minutes after the heart stops your chance of ever coming back is 0% if
CPR isn't initiated-- you lose 10% of brain function every minute after
the arrest starts.
survival rate with CPR alone during those 10
minutes is 2-5% at best; survival rate with CPR and AED use within
those 10 minutes is 50-55% optimally; however, not all rhythms are
shockable and sometimes you wind up just doing CPR.
mind you
survival does not mean you're conscious or normal or without brain
damage. most people who survive are brain damaged or brain dead. it's
rare to survive a cardiac arrest and return to your normal life.
he's probably a veggie, or dead.
good night, sweet prince. |
