Cant believe im asking you guys for advice

But basically I want to know if anyone else has just sold everything "gaming" related and moved on with your life and how you did it?

I'm 20 at the moment and I started university this year. I took 2 years off to travel and work abit, and now I really wanted to get back into it. The thing is I became really addicted to this game at the start of the year even though I promised myself I would work hard and study. I did no such thing and continued to play the game for like 10 hours a day. Soon after I realized what the game was doing to me, since I have abit of (OCD) so I set myself a goal and said when I reach it, I will have finished the game. (even though these sort of online games can never be finished, I just had to something)
Since then I've been doing really shitty at university because I didnt study at all at the start of this year. And I'm finding it hard to study now.
I'm a bit reclusive aswell and dont go out much or have many friends anymore

I was thinking of changing my life around and making an effort to get a part time job and go out and make a ton of friends and be sociable. (maybe even get a girlfriend, who knows)
I know I fucked up this semester, but my question is basically has anyone just "moved on" and sold their gaming pc and everthing related so they can just move to the next stage in life?
I cant keep playing games forever I realize. Not unless im going to be working in that sort of field, but I have a huge setup worth over $5000 or so. And I was thinking of selling it all and getting a small desk and a laptop and thats it.

I just want to get out and make alot of friends so I dont have to spend time at home much anymore. I would also like to move out of the house in the future but in reality its hard for me since I dont really know where I want to go in life.

Money isnt an issue and I have alot saved up but this addiction to my computer and the internet is killing me
>>
Change the addiction. Exercise, doing well at uni, etc. etc. etc. is levelling up in real life.

I already exercise. I've been going to the gym and have a really good body IMO.

Its just that im finding it hard to leave this part of my life behind.
Maybe im just holding onto something because im scared to move on?
And this would be games and "technology" since I was hugely into it in highschool with all my friends
>>
Find a way to prevent yourself from playing for like 2 weeks. Don't play at all during this time. The urge to play will have decreased drastically.
>>
>>12171789
Do you think that's why you're holding onto it?
>>
>>12171793

I dont play anymore. Its just that now I spend all my time browsing the internet and never studying

I find it so fucking hard to study so I was hoping getting rid of everything would help me start anew

I'm honestly not sure. I feel as though as if I sell everything, ill be missing out on all the games I could be playing and stuff I could be doing if I didnt quit.

Its a weird feeling, and hard to express, but Im sure you can relate somehow?
>>
I did exactly this. I played games since I was a teenager and I got a new computer in Summer 2012 and decided I wanted to quit gaming forever. I disassembled my computer and sold the parts on craigslist and I never looked back. My new time sinks are work, academics, and friends. You can do it.

I know what you mean. I'm in the process of selling most of my video games, and it's hard because it feels like part of my personality or something, as if I'm losing a part of myself. Video games are consumer entertainment. They're meant to be enjoyed here and there in your free time, when you need to relax or escape for a bit. There not an end to anything, and not a part of who you are any more than television is. That's what I've decided anyways. Good luck OP.
>>

What do you do with friends once you quit gaming? I feel like, without games I'd have nothing in common with mine.
>>
>>12171852
Thanks guys, this is exactly what Im feeling.

One question before you leave
>>12171847
What do you use now to study and work? Just a simple laptop?
>>
>>12171833
it's natural to feel that way. as human beings we have a tendency to sit in our comfort zone where things are familiar and nothing really takes us by surprise.

it's always going to be a trade off between games you'll 'miss' playing and lessons you'll learn in other parts of your life. it's not cutting a part of your personality away because those times will still exist.
>>
I can relate much. MMORPG crap for years, uni now, quit playing recently, surfing web now, no motivation, ehh, who cares. Bumping for interest.
>>
>>12171899

I still want to play visual novels because I really enjoy them and they motivate me in a way but for everything else I just want to get rid of and focus on something else in life

But its just hard to move on. Thanks for the advice

Kill yourself.

Thanks man
>>
you need to find something else you like to occupy your time. i sold my 360 and am glad i did. imitation 2d worlds cant even compare to real life. sometimes i still find myself here. but mainly if im online, it is in my intellectual pursuit.

just get rid of it. find a hobby: garden, hunt, fish ,trap, shot guns, build things. any physical skill you can hone.

that sounds like my friends who i don't hang out with anymore because all they do is smoke weed. if games are the only thing holding you together then something is wrong. i still like my old friends, but not being around them so much helped me stop buying weed.
>>

Its not just the gaming though.
I can quit gaming no problem, its just having all these other distractions like the pc and all this other shit I have feels like its keeping me addicted to just staying on my computer all day.

But its true that I just need to get out, I was hoping selling everything would keep my mind off it
