I frequently get tonsillitis and it bugs the shit out of me. However my doctor has advised against a tonsillectomy. I'm given antibiotics for it but it doesn't really do anything for me.

It acts like a big bitch though. It's difficult swallowing food right now, and at times breathing is a little painful, though not labored. But is there anything I can do to sort've... shut the bitch up? If I've got to live with it over and over possibly for the rest of my life, it'd be nice to alleviate the pain and decrease the swelling maybe. All my doc ever says is "Take more antibiotics!", which is gay. Also fuck you doc, it's difficult and painful swallowing those hugeass pills.

Are there any pain relieving creams suitable for oral application, any drinks that are good at soothing, anything like that. I already take painkillers every now and then when it gets especially bad, but taking those all the time would make them less effective so something that I could use more often would be helpful.

If anyone suggests weed go shove a pipe up your ass. Besides, even if I did take it just like painkillers constant use decreases effectiveness.

tl;dr, want a reusable way to reduce pain and swelling in tonsils.

Pic... related? I searched 'pain' for a picture.

There's 2 types of tonsillitus.... bacterial and viral. If you have the former, you should have puss and stuff on your tonsils. If its the latter then you wont, though antibiotics will be powerless against it.

I had tonsillitus a few times in 3 months a year or so back; really hurt to swallow, like nearly clutching throat in pain kinda bad. The easiest thing to relieve the pain for me were extra-strong lockets (sweets in a tube) but they only lessened it a bit and didn't last all that long. I eventually went to a nurse who said the best thing is to keep drinking fluids to wash the virus off the tonsils. By that point it was clearing up on its own accord so not sure if it helped, but worth a try!

    Good luck

I had bacterial tonsillitis for 11 years and it resulted in me being sick at least once a month for a week or two. It was horrible. All the doctors were strongly against a tonsillectomy, but finally my parents got fed up and sent me to a surgeon.

Now I get sick about once a year and it's always some minor cold.

No puss, so viral I guess. Which makes me wonder why my doctor keeps giving me antibiotics, he freaking looked at them before.

I like this drinking idea. Just water, or would maybe hot drinks help a little more?

I think my doc suggests against it because I have an autoimmune disease, I get sick all the time. I think he's worried it'll get shitloads worse without this spongy throat filter.

Just my 2 cents but I'd consider getting a second opinion, it never hurts.
Not trying to scare you but I'll tell you about my experience.

I got really horrible tonsillitis when I was 17 and developed necrosis after some months of my doctor fucking about with penicillin.
Got a second opinion, that doctor almost threw up in my face when he looked down my throat. cancelled another appointment to get them removed as quickly as possible since they were poisoning me to an early grave.

now this is very uncommon, Just stressing that it's never bad to get more opinions, 'specially with doctors imo. Maybe get other treatment options.
