A
lot of it has to do with nurture. Now, I can't blame the media 100%,
because obviously they make their own choices about being shitty and
what have you.
When I was young, I had the fortunate circumstance
of having parents who treated me like my brother, so I was into
science, math, co-ed sports, the history channel (back when it had
history). At the same time I was playing soccer, I was wishing my mom
and dad would let me take gymnastics. Why? I was perfectly fine with
everything else, but why gymnastics?
Because it's feminine. It's
an acceptable female sporty activitiy, like cheerleading. Where did I
come to think this? TV, Movies, radio songs, the likes. They teach young
girls that the most important things in life are your high school prom
and finding twue wuv at 18.
This is why most girls fall apart
when they get to college, because they simply don't know what to do with
themselves. THere's not as extensive a handbook on how to land a hubby
as there is on how to act in high school.
I was ugly in middle
school and high school because while I was playing vidya games and
having real interests, I was never taught beauty skills. I now consider
my make-up and hair routine to be a hobby because it's something I
actively was interested in and learned on my own.
But for most
females, they were taught that this is the only thing you need to learn,
and they don't have a mother or, more importantly, a father, to push
them into being well rounded.
