Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My friend is having a party Friday night and I want to go. But recently, my average went down to about 80-82. My dad, being a super try hard Asian parent, has blamed my 'bad' marks on my social life and won't let me go out with friends unless I bring it up to an 85, which is pretty much impossible at this point in my academic year. I'm not lazy or anything I just find some of y courses hard. I asked him if I could go yesterday and he said he will think about it and give me and answer today. If he says no, how can I further convince him to let me go?

Just lie and say you've been doing better lately and it should be a B by the end of the term.

Always worked when I was in high school.

So glad my asian parents weren't like that. But that is also the reason why I'm unemployed and studying a useless degree.

    Go me!

Tell him honestly, that you really want to go, and that there are very important friends there whom you respect and like to spend time with. Say this with a very honest and respectful tone. Then note that you are working hard, and that you expect your marks to get better.

If you do this right, with the right tone, your dad would have to be a total nut not to let you go.

Yesterday I showed him 2 recent tests. Both were A+ and he said that my marks are beginning to go up and perhaps going out on the weekend will drop it again.

ask him why he doesn't consider learning how to interact in a social setting (so that you can smooth talk your way to better jobs/promotions and have good self esteem) to be just as important as intellectual pursuits?
