how do you know when to see a psychologist? I'm seriously considering trying this. I'm on a college campus so it's free anyway. Also, should I talk this over with anyone beforehand?

if its free, there is no downside to seeing one other than wasting an hour of your time. just go do it and see what you think. this is not hard

Are you thinking of seeing one? If so, go do it.

asking a question like this is proof enough, go, especially if its free

if you're at the point where you consider it, you should do it. It'll make you feel better to be able to vent

You can see a psychologist at anytime. You don't have to wait for anyone. It's free, use it.

Good question. I'm afraid to go because then it will be on my record. Or don't they put psych visits on your record?

it is really hard for me. I feel like people will judge me if they find out and I feel like I'd just be wasting their time if my problems aren't serious enough

The fact that you're considering it says that it's something you should consider. If it's free, go for it. If you go and you don't feel like it's necessary or helpful, you don't have to go back.

I'm thinking of telling someone I know IRL I'm thinking of going and see what she thinks. do you think this would be a good idea or should i keep this all to myself?
    >> Anonymous 01/29/11(Sat)00:16 No.4750055
Don't worry and just give it a try, OP.

The psychologist will need to keep personal records to keep track of clients, but it's really fucking illegal for the college to even know you went there.

Do you have any specific problem you need to talk about?

Just the anxiety that's interfering with my studies and relationships. But I'll go if they keep my records private. Thanks.

psychologists are concerned with your mental health, not by how 'significant' your problems are. They won't judge you, it's their fucking job not to.

Also, by 'mental health', I am in no way suggesting that they're only concerned with mental illnesses (depression, ADHD), and visiting one does not mean you have an actual mental illness.

    Good luck.
