So this guy I know basically feels really shitty about the way his life is going. Doesn't have much of a job, doesn't go to school, doesn't do much but work, get high and game it up... not a very fulfilling lifestyle. Also blames a lot of the problems that he personally has on the way his parents raised him and because his parents don't have enough money to support him. The only reason I'm asking for /adv/ is because I don't know how to help someone that doesn't even want to help themselves. So what the hell am I to do with a downer that can't think for himself or decide on what he's doing without anyone? How do I turn his views around from where I'm standing?

Well I wouldn't feel great if the guy offed himself, at all... I mean if he really wanted to he easily could but I would prefer that it didn't play out that way. I think he's past being able to help himself. I guess I should tell his parents to get his shit together for him.
