I'm a physics/math student and my social skills are going down the drain at an exponential rate.

what do?

it's like more and more all I care about is physics and mathematics. I just spend all day studying and reading and learning about all this stuff. Most of the time when talking to people it's just when I want to discuss a problem with someone from the class, etc.

I'm almost at a complete loss for other things to even talk about. What do people talk about all the time? It's like I can't talk to anyone unless it's about a class or something. It's like I've lost all ability to just have fun. I start to avoid people because I don't want to lose logical focus throughout the day on physics/math concepts.

Other physics students aren't this bad, and they can easily talk to each other about random things and have a good fun time, and some of them are even better at the subject than I am. I don't get it.

help me /sci/ before I become a walking stereotype of a physics/math nerd that can't socialize for shit. what can I do????

I know this feel. Its mostly because people love pissing away their time with either banal bullshit, or some entertainment activity (such as video games/t.v.) Problem is with that, is the people that I hang out with play video games 10hrs a day, then when I try to go work I get hissed and booed because I want to do something more productive. I'm thinking I need better friends or I need to get them to understand. You can try either divide your time to some new hobby that interests you and try to make friends with that (college clubs are great for that I hear) or you can ask what current friends are up to and try to get into that. If you can get friends that are interested in physics and math that would probably work great for you, but I understand that wouldn't be too easy to accomplish. Sorry for my terrible wording OP. A lot on my mind, I've been a scatter brain recently.

This isn't /sci/ OP.

I program smart phones and I know this feel. Having a couple drinks makes me MUCH more interested in people and willing to socialize. I would recommend drinking and getting an extroverted SO to keep you aware of social things going on around you, maintain mutual friendships, tell you what's happening in people's lives (abbreviated), etc....
