Im starting driving lessons soon but want some idea of what to do before i begin.

Im 23 so being totally useless is a bit embarrassing

anyone have pointers for driving manual transmissions cars?

Don't panic. Don't jerk around the gears. Start your day off in an empty parking lot or something because you're going to stall it a lot.
>>
Brakes are for stopping, not gently slowing down. Take your foot off of the accelerator and keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you. That will slow you down ahead of stop signs, traffic signals, etc. It also leaves your concentration free to manage downshifts.
>>
is there anywhere that explains the main points step by step?
>>
Don't use the brake pedal too much, just before tough turns and when ou have to stop.

Don't hesitate to go hard on the clutch pedal. You should push it to the max everytime.

Don't hesitate to go directly from 4th speed to 2nd speed if you need to.
Always stop in 2nd speed.

In narrrow road always look where you want t go and not the side of the road you want to avoid

op here again
i found a step by step guide
Tell me, are the pedals always like this?
is the brake always center?
Is the accelerator always kinda long and thin?
>>
>>10822368
>is the brake always center?
Yes.

>Is the accelerator always kinda long and thin?
No, but it usually is. It's always on the right and the clutch is always on the left.
>>
>>10822365
do you release the clutch fast or slowly?
>>
>>10822371
>t's always on the right and the clutch is always on the left.

is that the same in uk and the usa?
>>
>>10822368

Clutch is always on the left since you don't need sensibility.

Brake is in the middle and accelerator on the right 99.9% of time

>>10822373

Nope.

Really slowly

(you can do it quicker if your in high speeds but in general idea you shouldn't)
>>
>>10822374
Yes. The only difference is where the shifter is located, because that's virtually always (only exception being 50 year old pickup trucks) in the center. So if you're in the UK, the center armrest and the shifter are to your left. In the US, they're to your right. That doesn't affect pedals.
>>
So is this how it goes?

>press clutch
>start car
>release clutch slowly
>press accelerator
>>
>>10822389
That's how it goes in words. Simply knowing the words isn't the answer, though. You need lots of experience to know how it feels.
>>
>>10822392
ok

well at least i know what im meant to do now

its mandatory to have 12 lessons before you get a licences so ill be good i think
>>
>>10822389

Nope, you need to start to press accelerator slowly, before you release clutch.

Then you don't move you right foot and realease very slowly the cluth until the car starts
>>
>>10822409
so you hold the accelerator with very little pressure?
>>
>>10822389
You don't have to press the clutch if the car is in neutral, but you'll have to be very sure it's in neutral.
In fact, it's better for the gear shift if the clutch isn't pressed while starting.

Also, if you've never driven a car, you probably start with only steering, and add accelerator, brakes, gear shift and clutch later. I've had 4 hours of lessons, and I haven't touched the clutch yet.
>>
>>10822418

Yeah, around 2500 gears/min if your car has a rev counter
>>
>>10822418
Yeah, if you push it down hard, i guess you can imagine what happens.

>car in wall
>>
>>10822409
It really depends on the car, in my diesel ute you can almost full pull the clutch out with no accelerator before it stalls
>>
>>10822430
That's because
>diesel
>>
>>10822430

I took my lessons on a diesel. It's a pain in the ass, the car takes so much timeto reach a decent spedd
>>
>>10822441
That's not an issue on modern diesels
with compressors.
