I've had the privilege of chatting with and meeting a lot of great people from 4chan over the past 8.5 years, and lost touch with many.
If we used to chat/hang, drop me a line at moot@4chan.org or on AIM at MOOTCHAT. And if we haven't, feel free to say hi.

Introducing /wsg/ - Worksafe GIF

Update: /rs/ - Rapidshares is fixed—sorry for the downtime there. Also I think we've fixed most issues with boards.4chan.org and sys.4chan.org. Keep your fingers crossed!

Can you really get a job anywhere with just a bachelor's degree anymore? I'm currently nearing the end of my first year of community college, and looking at majors to work on, and hollllllly shit this is a little depressing. Hell, I'm considering just going out and finding some place to work just so that I can have the benefit of having experience, but I'm pretty sure that any place that I go to are going to require a MA in Dumbfuckery too. My mother and father both make around 36-45 dollars an hour with very little college experience as well. I'm wanting to get out there and do something, not sit around complete three more years of school, only to have to complete three more years of school. With my luck if I go through that, everything will need a PHD in Dumbfuckery by the time I'm done.

tl;dr anon is buttravaged by current job market and isn't sure where to go from here.

Try looking into learning a trade.
Where do you live OP?
>>
>>10095402
Southern bay area, CA. Looking to move to NY in the next few years.

Unemployed in the East Bay here. I almost got a PhD in economics. The job market around here is just that awful.

Don't take out student loans to get more education, just get to work if you can. A year of experience > a master's degree right now.

I was originally thinking about going into Economics, but then I remembered how much I fucking hate doing math. Guess I dodged a bullet there.
>>
>>10095461

You'd better learn to like math because non-STEM majors are basically useless.
>>
Stay in school OP, get a BA at the very least (Even if it is some bullshit like Chicano studies, but even then you're still probably fucked). While places do care about experience, they also care about you having a degree (So they see how much bullshit you're able to put up with for four years). Whatever you choose, don't drop out.

Fuck me.

I'm working my ass off for an economics degree. Don't tell me that.

It's not you, it's the employees. They want skilled people, but they want it for a cheap price (read: wage) and they realize it's more profitable to hire less people or require more experience than usual (i.e. entry-level job requires 3-5 experience)

There are jobs out there, even for those outside of the STEM majors. But it's difficult for everyone.

P.S. Not everyone can major into STEM, we still will be need for other jobs outside of STEM.

Don't worry, bro. I'm just overqualified for most things and I'm suffering from the sheepskin effect. I got a great job after I got my econ BA and gave it up to go to grad school and try to become a professor, and just barely didn't make it.

Also I think I've been hideously unlucky. I really should have a job by now.

Economics is still an in-demand degree and a great field, keep working. It's up to us to save the world, after all.
>>
All I really want to do is work a 9-5 job and come home at a decent time, is there really any such job anymore that has those things that isn't corporate and doesn't need 50 years of school?
>>
>>10095366

Holy shit. There's a house up there?

What's in it?
>>
>>10095576

Janitor?
>>
>>10095587

You get a TM inside of it. Hidden power I think.
>>
>>10095635
Hm, I never even thought of that.
