it generic open city game with linear mission structures and better combat/melee/shooting/driving than other generic open city gamesi watched stream of it, just a bit ago, and it looked very generic, the mission structure seemed so out of place, one mission he was on a date with emma stone character, the next he was shooting like 50 dudes out of a cop car in full riot gear, and the other mission he was tailing some dude and taking cell phone pics of the dude killing someone it looked diverse, and very good voice acting, and good combat, but it looked like there wasnt much to the game

It's been getting some pretty good reviews. Everyone's saying the story and missions are its strong points, but the graphics are dated and the gameplay is pretty linear despite it being an openworld game.

This game is my GOTY.I raged hard when I made a save and tried to load it at the end of a mission and it started the mission completely over disregarding my checkpoints. I did this twice on the first action hijacking mission.I love the characters story and the physics make it so fun to dick around though. Past the campaign, i expect it to be fun to just roam around.
How's the melee combat? Is the close-range fighting at a least halfway decent, or is it like every other urban open-world game where melee combat is just a bunch of really pretty animations covering up a completely superficial shitty, unresponsive button mashing mess?I can deal with the typical shitty melee found in GTA or Saint's Row, but this game is supposed to be all about cinematic Hong Kong action. It wouldn't feel right if it didn't have a proper, responsive control scheme for kung-fu fighting. At the very least it should be on par with a simple oldschool arcade brawler.

Almost every review I've read compares the kung-fu to Arkham Asylum, but I didn't play AA. I did play the shit out of the PS2 Yakuza games, though, so how does the fighting in Sleeping Dogs compare to that?

The melee combat is really where it is at in this game as the gun combat is lame. I get more joy out of punching everyone. If you like the Yakuza games this is a obvious purchase.

It built really slow and then ended all in a flash, everything seemed on such a small scale- like even with all of these players combined the triad was still strong and that the police was corrupted. Lots of predictable deaths, seemingly unfinished subplots, and could have had a lot more ground to cover. It's offered minigames are karaoke, mahjong (but really poker in this), and betting on cockfights and they're really simple amusements you try only on missions and never bother with again.The fighting was cool, but didn't seem to respond sometimes when i first started. Shooting was fun, the hospital mission in particular seemed right out of a John Woo movie.I was very interested in getting the game since the live action trailer and pre-ordered. In all the other recent gta clones you get to make a few decisions. It would have been nice in this game.
