When it comes to cosplaying a character, how far is your tolerance for alternate outfits?

Which of the following do you find acceptable?

- Alternate outfits in artbooks and promotion images
- Concept drawings of your character
- Outfits from figures endorsed by the company
- Popular fan art
- Cosplayer original interpretation

I like them as long as they aren't blatant excuses to be lazy and/or slutty.

I have gotten really tired of the whole gijinka trend though.

The first three are totally fine.

Popular fan-art is going to vary based on if people get the reference/recognize the fanart or not. Sometimes it can work better, but it's a gamble.

The last one I'd probably rule out. Unless it was only a minor change, or maybe something comical that the fans might get. But sometimes it comes across as trying to cop-out of doing a more authentic design.
