I've only been to a few and I've seen some horrors. I feel that weeaboo encounters are one thing, but anime club encounters are on another level.

>start 'japanese culture club' in HS
>actually like all aspects of japan, not just anime/manga
>i'm just a freshie (no respect) so it's taken over by the senior weeb pack
>i leave because the loud weebs controlled everything, causing other normal kids to leave
>a few weeks after i left a teacher caught them watching Sensitie Pornograph (kawaii yaois) on the library laptops
>no more japanese culture club forever

I'm going to uni soon, and so far the only other anime fans i've met that also go there are just... so stereotypically awful. I don't think I'll join the club. If anything, I'll keep my power levels even lower.
>>
>high school
>two sane freshman friends start a jap club
>they actively try not to be 100% weeb-y, try to talk about other jap customs
>it's obviously ridiculued along the school, but whatever
>fast-forward two years
>everyone in the club won't shut up about ponies
>one specific freshman is the 14-year-old living embodiment of flaunted powerlevels
>one person who made the club left, both because of how bad it got but also because of rising social status
>other friend who made it is sitting on leaving too because of how weeby it is

I could go on about that one fucking kid, but overall I'm upset at how bad it became. I feel sorry for the two who made the club.

I would be furious if I were you.

>go to anime club
>girl ignores us as we walk in, okay
>other horribad weebs arrive
>today is cosplay day
>girl who ignored us is club leader and waves around a can with a horribad animu chibi on it
>girl is supposed to be cosplaying her goffik neko oc
>oh god
>two girls running around
>one is RIN REE from fma with the most closet cosplay and no wig
>other is ed with just a cloak and duct tape/sharpie'd arm
>everyone is screaming about the craft we're doing
>biggest weeb comes in late as some tsubasa thing idk none of them have wigs or actual cosplays
>she screams the loudest and runs around screaming about yaoi or something
>food arrives
>finally everyone shuts up
>tbh food was the best part, plus laffs afterwards. free unlimited pizza/soda thank GOD
>later we start charades
>we each get a scenario and we pick anime characters for the scenario given
>i get up, do mine, it's silly whatever. i sit down
>next my friend and the biggest weeb gets up to do one
>biggest weeb deeply gropes friend to infinity in front of everyone
>jesus fucking christ
>we are so ready to leave at this point
>anime club ends, friend evacuates as soon as possible
>i have to wait for my ride, i go outside
>they're all outside, taking cosupray photos nya
>they're simulating some fma scenes
>jesus christ
>my ride arrives and I GTFO

It would be so much better if it centered more around anime and not just the lame crafts we did. The only time they watched anime is was, surprise, Full Metal Alchemist, dubbed by their dear Vic-chan.
Oh and the lights weren't on the whole time. And they were playing anime OPs.

I had the poor foresight to start one my sophomore year in high school. At the time the only room we could use for meetings was a small, poorly ventilated room towards the middle of the building.

Of course several people didn't think highly of personal hygiene, and this was when the weather was getting warmer too. It smelled like a zoo.

Maybe not directly related, but the teacher who agreed to be club supervisor never showed up to school after that summer break. My friend likes to joke that the anime club scared him into transferring to a different school.

Also, have you ever had anyone show up to your job with a "FREE HUGZ" sign because they found out you like anime? Yeah.
>>
I joined an anime club in junior high. One girl read Chobits and another girl used to have a Gaia account and I shit you not this was the extent of their anime knowledge. There were about 10-15 kids in the club too.
We met at the library and watched 2 Miyazaki movies before just watching Futurama every week. Eventually three of the kids slipped out of the library while everyone else was watching tv and TPed a house across the street from the library (it was night). The fucking cops showed up and we got yelled at and almost shut down. I never went back. It was pointless.

Mine wasn't terrible but I loathed every minute of it. My high school had a DDR club and we started a small community there. Nothing too bad, and I honestly enjoyed it there. However we had to share the room with Anime club, so we got 3 days of the week, they got 2. After my junior year, ddr club and anime club just fell into a total pit, and I never made friends anywhere else because I stayed in that classroom for a majority of my high school.

>everything was fine except for shiba inu girl and random furries
>they start kissing up/try to be my friend because they found out I work for a local anime con
>shiba inu girl was a fat, short filipino/chinese chick
>wore ears and a tail every day, called everyone unni and her boyfriend oppa
>wrote she works for YG entertainment on her facebook and is an ulzzaang
>"omg i'm so asian lol XD" "OPPA" "SARANGHAE" every day
>made out with her "oppa" every other day under the tables
>she hates cosplayers who aren't asian and skinny
>other furry kid showed me his cool animu drawings which were copy-paste practically traced like my attached pic
>other furry-kid liked to show off his cool ddr skills, didn't know what deodorant was
>"OMG GUYS GLOMP"
>shout "RAAAAPE" when they would ambush hug people

Nothing directly towards me, but honestly it caused so much secondhand embarrasment and I knew if I went anywhere else, I don't have any friends/familiar faces to hang out with at lunch.

Be in high school full of brown normal kids and yellow special education kids

Grade 10
> Join anime club
> president is cool execs are cool
> we have fun

Grade 11
> Be on exec team
> first club day of the year
> 60+ people show up
> show Trigun, they all leave
> only cool people left
> we had fun

Grade 12
> be president
> first club day, recruited 68 new kids
> don't show bleach or naruto
> they all leave
> 10 people left
> didn't like the random kids
> show eden of the east
> they leave
> we had fun

Now
> teacher union banned after school activities
> club is dead
Thank god too, only people left for president position were kind of stupid, nice, but stupid.

Every anime club I have ever experienced has been horrible. It's just such a given at this point I don't even have any hope of there ever being one that doesn't suck. This is one of my favorite weeb stories to tell though, so I'll share.

>Freshman year at uni
>Have never had good experiences in the past with anime clubs, but roomie convinces me to check it out with her
>Go in, lights are out, five people just sitting in the far corner of the room around a laptop
>wonder if we're in the wrong room, Roomie asks if it's anime club
>no one says anything, but after a minute of silence one guy finally nods
>........okay
>ready to bail right then, but Roomie wants to give it more of a chance, it was early, maybe better people would come once it started
>eventually a few more people arrive, all wearing hot topic animu shirts with messenger bags covered in pins and one girl has on cat ears
>Cat Ears zeros in on me and Roomie off to the side and comes up to us with serious bitch attitude and asks if we were there for anime club
>Tell her yes, she suddenly gets even bitchier
>"Do you even know any GOOD anime or just the shit on cartoon network?"
>awwwwherewego.jpg
>Roomie mentions Sailor Moon and some Clamp series, I mention Fist of the North Star and Madoka
>Cat Ears didn't know Madoka or Fist of the North Star
>Accuses me of making them up
>the fuck
>Finally backs down when I pull up Madoka on my phone, but says it's "probably a Korean anime ripoff"
>Once she's gone one of the guys approach us
>oh god you can feel the awkward coming off him
>Starts talking in terribad weeb 'Japanese' to Roomie
>She has no idea what's going on but just smiles in confusion
>He suddenly squeals and says she's his perfect Japanese waifu
>Roomie is Filipino
>He literally said "waifu"
>nope.jpg
>We immediately bail after that, never looked back, laugh about it to this day
>>
My high school anime club was amazing for the most part, so I don't have anything too horrific, but I'll share with you the adventures of douchechilld.

>anime club consists of our small group, who have been close friends since our first year in high school
>club was started by a few seniors who graduated after our first year, but we're still friends with them and hang out outside of school
>after 3 years of peaceful meetings (basically our regular group getting together in one of the computer labs to watch anime), a new kid arrives
>fat, white, and a complete asspie
>we call him douchechild behind his back
>he doesn't do anything too horrifying tbh, he's just really annoying
>keeps trying to get us to watch stuff like naruto
>complains loudly about any kind of fanservice when the rest of us are trying to watch
>we are no longer allowed to watch some of the gorier stuff because he's much younger than us
>worst moment was when he brought his sketchbook to a meeting and was showing people his hideous drawings "this is muh sonic fan character"
>a few years later, our original group has just graduated
>we've collected a small group of younger members by now who are nothing like the douchechild and who promise take over with the club for us
>one of the boys submits an application for the leadership, and tells our supervisor that he's going to be running the club now
>she tells him she thinks some other white boy also wants to lead it now
>only white boy left in the club is douchechild, we immediately freak out
>"ABORT ABORT DO NOT LET HIM TAKE THE CLUB"
>turns out the supervisor was just confused because the guy submitted the leadership form with his english name
>>
This is gunna be a long one.

>I kinda liked Hunter X Hunter when I was younger, I knew it was anime but had not watched anything else.
>See an "Anime Club" in high school
>Doing at least one club is mandatory and this sounds like the least retarded one.
Oh how wrong I was

>First time I get there, president is a guy in a pink wig
>"Hello, my name is Christina but call me Demu-Chan!"
>wat
>"Lets do introductions!"
>"Like, Hey I'm Demu-Chan and I love all anime and am a big fan of Yaoi!"
>wat do these words mean
>2nd person goes up, 8/10 guy just says he likes Cowboy Bebop
>"What's your name, ooni-san"
>speak english motherfucker
>"Uh, I'm Jacob"
>Sits down next to me
>STOMP
>STOMP
>ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
>The raptard emerges.
>I'm not sure of it's gender
>They actually let out a little scream that sounded fucking scary as shit.
>30 minute speach about how they love anime with billions of wapanese phrases thrown in
>At this point really just contemplating running away but jacob
>still not come out at this point
>We start talking to eachother as this weird kid who looked bald at like the age of 13
>"Demu-Chan" lets out some sort of squeel
>Her and Blobzilla look at eachother with this wierd fucking look
>ohgodwhat.jpg

>Next day eating lunch, I have been hanging out with jacob almost all day.
>Sitting down talking
>"Demu-Chan" walk up behind us
>CRACK
>She smacks our heads together as her as she can screaming yaoi and then runs off giggling
>literally bleading
>I think I have cracked my skull
>everyone is staring at us now
>feels like thousands of people are laughing
>pass out

>wake up in the nurses office
>open my eyes
>whole of anime club is standing right there
>look around
>jacob is no where to be seen
>"I WAS SO WORRIED! GLOMP"
>She literally jumps on my arm as I am laying down
>oh god she feels like 9000 pounds
>my arm feels like it is crushed into 10 million pieces
>"God I can't believe Jacob is such an asshole!"
>"He left and called me mean names"
>"You should be thankful we saved you from him"
>mfw i can't run

>Eventually mom gets back from work and I go home

Anything really, it was quite surprising what some people liked. My freshman year one girl, a cheerleader was a huge fan of Gainax works. Her favorite anime was FLCL, and at the time was watching TTGL. A good friend of mine from the football team had a bunch of vocaloid songs on his iPod and through that is how i got him to open up to me. His favorite anime is Serial Experiments Lain.

I just... I avoid anime clubs at all costs. The mix of extreme weeb to the pretentious is just mind numbingly awful. At least in my experience with the clubs at my pervious schools. My friends trying to get me to go to the anime club at my current Uni but I still feel no desire, my hobbies arent things I /need/ to share with others.

My high school has three though. There was the manga club, the anime club, and the asian culture club, and they had kinda taken over the art club as well which was sad. And not a single asian amongst the whole bunch. I still think my favorite moment was when I worked on the school news paper we did an april fools issue with all fake articles, and decided to poke fun by making a 'White Culture Club" article where we rounded up every asian kid in school we could find made them pose for a club picture and wrote about their experiences in the club experiencing american culture like how they listened to country music during club meetings and for an outing went to a burger joint to really feel surrounded in such a 'unique' culture. The Asian Culture Club who yeah did those exact same things just with jpop and japanese restaurants were as expected really really mad. The president stormed the student office all screamy like. To be fair we threw the first stone, but it was pretty funny to watch the president of the club yell at my head editor about how he probably doesnt even know japanese and isnt nearly as cultured or refined as she was.
>>
>>6969379
Same here! I want to but... I have had bad experiences at my own, and anime clubs seem to never attract decent people.
I visited a college a few months back and the anime club has just ended or something and they all were walking away and it was just greasy lanky neckbeards and a bunch of homestucks.
>>
>>6969450
Dude I feel the same way, I steer clear of all clubs for the same reasons.
>>
>Was voted president of my high school anime club
> Club got weebier and weebier every year
> tried my best to make things a little better, show interesting series that aren't as well known
> kids would always be super fucking annoying
> Took a "field trip" to a local park to draw stuff with chalk figuring to switch it up a lil bit and maybe give the wild weebs an outlet.
> Back fired. I was an idiot to think otherwise
> They screamed and swore at children
> They drew x-rated things things
>One of them TOOK HIS PEE PEE OUT AND PISSED ON A TURTLE
>After wards tried to get the kid that pissed on the turtle banned
> Our teacher sponsor is too nice and instead all of us sat around and listened to feelings and shit cause the kid felt "bullied" because people were making fun of him

So. So happy I'm out of high school and have yet to run into those kids in public.
