Doing a Taobao order and hoping I can get some co-ord help.

I've ordered the jsk already and the matching accessories have sold out so I thought I'd go with a red floral hair accessory to bring the red in the print out, red shoes similar to the ones pictured and having trouble finding a blouse I like, but do you think this would go okay?

I'm also not huge on accessories both in and out of lolita so I'm not sure what would go well with this.

Help?

I'm planning an outfit for an event in late september /beginning of october for my first meet-up. On the left side is what I already own and on the right are a few ideas for what could look nice with them. I want the coord to have autumnal feel to it, which is why I'd prefer a floral headband (the one pictured is just a placeholder, I'd like to find something with red and cream flowers and maybe some leafs or a chiffon bow).
I'm not sure if the red blouse and red underskirt thing could work or not...opinions? And does anybody know where I could find a blouse and skirt in red and out of chiffon? The blouse pictured is just an example of what I like (not too much ruffles and lace, long sleeves with cuffs without lace), but I don't think the collar can be worn under the JSK. Thank you for your help!

I have (badly) drawn up what your outfit would look like with your original idea, one with a brown bag and rose-y leafy head piece and another one with a cream bag an simple bow.

I really like the underskirt idea as it helps to bring out the red in the print. My only concern is that the main color is a light aqua/ sky blue and the contrast with the red maybe to big since it's so strong compared to a pink or light yellow.
If you're able to, try it with both the red and a cream blouse and see what works best.
Good luck with your first meet

Still working this one out... it's the most colorful item I have. Advice is welcome
>>
>>6911803
I assume you'll be going with white tights as well? It seems like it'll be fine. In terms of accessories, you could get away without a necklace due to all the neckline details and maybe even without bracelets, so you don't need-need them but if you want them I would suggest gold toned jewellery with red stones.

>>6911918
I think a warm red-brown colour would be nice, and agree with >>6912007 that the contrast could be too harsh with blocks of colour compared to a patterned JSK. I would go with cream and brown before red.

>>6912011
Pick a theme and stick to it, it looks like you're trying to pull too many things out of the dress at the moment. I would nix the jacket since it's a bit goth/punk and an awkward length but most of the outfit looks like it's going more classic/casual. If you want to go that route, a wine or black blazer and just one of those floral hairclips will do, a couple of discreet rings with red stones and a simple pendant necklace that matches.
>>
>>6912063
>>6912007

Thank you both! I'm also worried that the red might be too harsh, so I guess I will try cream first. I'm pretty pale and blonde so I thought cream might be too light on me, but I will give it a try. Thank you very much!
>>
>>6912011
That dress has a lot of information going on, you'd better add discrete accessories. That jacket is waaaay too much.
The rest of what I have to say is just personal opinion, but maybe you'll agree so I'll say it anyway: if I were you, I'd wear higher heels for a more elegant look and I don't like the red on your hairpieces, it's too bright. I'd go for a wine, darker red (again, for a more sophisticaded look).
I love the rings and the necklace, I'd keep those.

Yes, I was tossed between a more fitted jacket or an asymmetrical one and also going for a 'wine' red over a bright one. I'm still looking for the perfect pair of wine red mid-heel shoes to wear with this dress.
Thanks again

I was wondering if I could get some opinions about something.
I bought this bag on an impulse buy (far right), thinking I could somehow coordinate around this bag (noob move I know), but I'm having more trouble coming up with coordination ideas than I thought.
Originally I thought it would be cute to get a black polka dot dress or skirt to match with it but now I fear that it would be too much polka dot and that it would look odd.

So I'm stuck debating if I should still go with the skirt idea, or if I should just try a solid black dress with polka dots and pink accents as accessories? I don't want anything super fancy, just a casual coord.
>>
>>6912342
You don't even need polka dots, anon, just match the colors.

I think creams are easier to wear than white for paler people, you should be fine.
>>
>>6912109
I think the difference with that outfit is that it clearly has two things that are very well balanced - the gothic cross motif with the goth/punk jacket and the classic with the tights, there's no additional colours brought in.
>>
>>6909637
>>6913008

These are both really helpful! Thank you both! (I struggle a bit with jewelry for it too because of the ruffle on the front making it a bit cluttered looking, so I generally try and keep it simple if I can help it)

Anything for this that isn't just putting it with black, white, and/or music themed accessories? I can do that already myself, but mixing some colour and other themes into it would be nice. It's just that the dress itself is like a huge block of white with a bit of black, so it seems like it gets overwhelmed by other colours whenever I try anything else.

A wine or navy blue would look good with that. Like a navy blue chiffon blouse, navy tights, white pumps.

You could go a bit more towards the EGA side with a corset, if desired - I think the challenge with long skirts and short people is not looking too stumpy or swallowed up in the outfit, and a corset helps define things a bit.

Man I really want to come up with ideas to coordinate with this Fancy Egg mini skirt, but why is it whenever I try to look for worn photos there's always like the same two asian people wearing it and no other pictures?
I feel like there's something I don't know that everyone else does. Do people avoid this print because it's a clusterfuck to coordinate with? Is it just unflattering, or what?
--Sincerely, a puzzled lolita.
>>
>>6917892
I think it's just because it's Meta, that it's a bit less popular brand so you see less people wearing it. I personally love Fancy Egg, and while the print is quite busy with lots of different colours, in many ways that makes it easier to coord since you can pull out colours from the print to make more interesting outfits.
>>
>>6917892
My dream print, urghhh.

I think it can look real flattering due to the colour range involved. You can just pick any colour in the print that compliments your skin tone & coordinate your outfit. Due to the colours you can keep changing colour scheme & styles for a more casual or grand look, quite versatile I say.

If I make my own Lolita dresses is it considered ita?
I've been sewing for about 5 years now, I have the money to buy the dresses but not many prints call out to me. If its ita I'll shut my mouth and open up my purse to more brand.

If you can make it well, do it, Well-made dresses are admired in lolita, and you shouldn't really feel obligated to buy brand if you don't like the design. You should only buy what you like.
>>
>>6918006
No. If you make a dress that looks awful and call it lolita, then it's ita, same as someone wearing brand that looks awful and calling it lolita. Brand has the advantage of usually looking lolita on the hanger to start with whereas if you're sewing, you can screw up the execution of it. Handmade is fine as long as it's done well - try to make sure you have at least a 2 and a half yard hem circumference on your skirts and get a good grasp of the lolita aesthetic before you start.
>>
>>6918039
>>6918058

Ok :) thank you both for the advice on hamdmades. I've made victiorian ball gowns before so I'm quite aware of hem circumstance and how tricky it can get. I lurk in Lolita threads often and I own one dress from BtSSB already, though I've never worn it out, I intend to become more involved in the Lolita community!

And once again thank you so much.

Sort of an outside witness question: As Lolitas, do you buy put-together outfits, or do you put together your own outfits using stuff here and there?
Also, the hell do you guys even buy this?
>>
>>6921720
You clearly are new.
>>
>>6921720

I think what you're getting at is if people buy full sets (Dress, headbow, socks, jewelry) all from the same series or do they mix and match stuff from different series/brands?

If that's the case then I find that everyone does it differently. Personally, if I love a series I'll try to get as much as I can of it but that isn't always possible because of the cost factor or because stuff sells out pretty quickly (I also find that I tend to only like 1-2 things from a series.)

Mixing stuff from different brands and series is what I prefer but things like colours really vary between brands and from season to season.
>>
>>6921821
I'll buy a bunch of stuff from the same series. Sometimes I wear it all together for shits and giggles even though the western community tends to frown upon it. But fuck, if I'm going to invest in a full set, what's the point of not showing it all off together a few times?

>>6921720
I put together outfits from all over the place. Usually a main piece from a specific brand, mix in different brand or offbrand blouses, usually socks from the same brand or offbrand tights, different shoes, various accessories (matching or not).

I buy it with my hard-earned cash, yo. It just means that I often give up on other hobbies or eat out less often.

>>6921362
I ordered some stuff from IW on June 13th and got an email/invoice tonight. They just have a lot of orders in.

so I ordered this dress through Qutieland ages and ages ago because I fell in love with it, but now that it's finally here I have no fucking clue what to wear with it. All of the accessories I have are ivory or off-white whereas the white in this dress is pure. So far I have these VM boots that I think would work OK with it, but I have no idea what do do as far as balancing the rest of the coordinate. I have these brown/pink floral tights that could maybe work with the shoes? but I'd like input on how people would coord this if they were in my position.

there are a bunch of things to do with black corset dresses, I've been lazy and collected some photos...often people seem to favour the scoop collar ones with corset dresses, but you can always wear a bolero if you aren't comfortable with visible shoulders

This is the one I was talking about, the reds are a lot different than I remembered but I think ti would look a bit weird if the blouse was as saturated in color as the roses on the dress. I don't know, I was planning on ordering it in blue and just coording it with a white blouse and black shoes + accessories. Probably subtly-patterned black tights too.

Planning an outfit for an AP tea party but kind of at a loss for hair and accessories. I don't know whether to go with a wig or just my natural hair (black/dark brown, past shoulder/chest length), and if so what kind of hairstyle (high or low pigtails? high pony? loose and curled?) would fit. I have pink haircombs and a scrunchie but they are both Baby so they have the logo drops, so unless I can hide them somehow, I don't think that'll go over too well. Help?

can I get your honest opinion on this? I think I suck at coording. Also, I have no idea what to do with the legwear (and of course I will only use one headbow, but I'm not sure which one!)
>>
>>6932610
I like it but I think the blouse would look better without the bows on it. I see it more as a blouse for a skirt rather than JSK.
>>
>>6932610
Personally I don't think the sash is working and be careful with your pinks, they don't look like they match too well (try and keep warm and cool tones separate, although this may just be because of the quality of the image you've posted, in which case ignore this). For legwear some nice sheer white tights with perhaps a simple polka dot pattern may look cute. If not that then I would at least suggest something light coloured and not too cluttered with a pattern or print. The chess story bow is really cute so try it on and judge whether it looks too ott with the rest of the outfit. If it does then go with the other one or alternatively ramp up your accessories and makeup/hair so the first bow doesn't look out of place. Perhaps try to add in some more pearls too.
>>
>>6930052
I second the polka dot scrunchie. You could do your hair in a high top bun with it or maybe a side pony if it looks good.

If you were to go with a wig I would suggest a solid colored one rather than the split toned wig also.
>>
>>6932644
not OP but is it really that bad if your colors don't 100% match. Now I don't mean a royal blue with navy blue, but if you can get a close approximation of the pinks is it bad that its not a 1:1 match.

It always struck me as a bit much that people would rip coords apart because the pink in the blouse and the pink in the dress isn't 100% on point

the JSK has a weird bust shape (I think the cut is too low...?), that is why I looked for a blouse with something cutesy on top, but I will try it on without them. I also have pic related?

>>6932644
I'm going to be in a catwalk (is that the right name? Sorry, ESL), and that is why I'm aiming for something a little OTT, hence the sash and the chess story headbow as an alternative. I was also thinking on a simple pattern tights but can't for the life of me find ones that match nicely. I tried with polka dots and flowers and meh. Maybe I should just use white tights, as you suggested.
>>
>>6932655
There seems to be at least one anon that freaks out when colors don't match EXACTLY and posts people to ita threads for it, I don't get it either. I can see when they really obviously don't match (trust me, most of my wardrobe is black; you can tell between a 'blue' black and a 'warm' black), but barely noticeable differences between almost exactly the same dyelots is just stupid especially with stuff like pink or red.

As long as you keep your colors in the same family (cool or warm toned), you're fine.
>>
>>6932662
...So since I basically just reiterated what the anon you were replying to was saying- they're correct, keep to color tones and try to match approximate shade as well, but other than that don't stress over it being a slight shade off.
>>
>>6932655
I'm sure most people wouldn't rip apart her outfit and tell her to quit the fashion but if you're going to put the effort into an outfit then it's good to try and get a cohesive look and it's the small touches that turn a nice outfit into an awesome one.

Of course it's not always easy to get them all to match because of wardrobe restrictions or whatever but especially since she's said here >>6932657 that she's going to be in a catwalk it would look better to try and get them all to match as closely as possible. I don't simply mean that the exact same colour must run through the outfit, but matching tones would look nicer.

Not the same anon, but I would say go very simple as the dress already steals the show and you'll have too much going on on the central line of your body if the leg wear is as attention grabbing. If that makes any sense.
Personally I would've gone for some plain and dark knee high socks. But that is just my taste.
