If I see one more "hipster so-and-so" cosplay I might lose my shit.

No offense to pic related in particular, but is this stupid fad ever going to die?

"OF COURSE YOU DON'T THINK IT'S FUNNY, STUPID NORMAL PERSON, I'M FROM THE INTERNET."
>>
I actually wear glasses sort of like that so sometimes if I'm in costume, people will mistake me for HIPSTER BLAH BLAH BLAH and I always want to slap them.
>>
>>6994261
Get new glasses then, you hipster.
>>
>>6994263
>get new glasses
wish I could afford it but they cost about 400 a pair because of what's wrong with my eyes and the lenses they need. So if there isn't actually anything wrong with them then it's a waste of money to buy a new pair.

Punch your eye doctor for being unable to surgically fix your eyes for free.
He's the asshole.

Flower crowns are the new nerd glasses in cosplay.

this

hipster isn't even an irl thing anymore since everyone and their mother now buys what once would have been branded as hipster wear from kohls
>>
>>6994250
this reminds me of people who use phrases like "over 9000" IRL
>>
>>6994268
How bad are your eyes? They're probably not worse than mine and I bought my glasses for $100 no insurance.
>>
>>6994340
Mine are pretty bad.
Was born cross eyed, had laser eye surgery almost immediately after that to correct it and have worn glasses every since.
Because of something related to the way my eye balls are shaped, the lenses have to made a certain way and apparently this is rather expensive.
I'm only 22 so I'm only just recently getting to a place where I actually need to cover my own medical things.
Anyway, last pair I bought cost about 372 and that was without the anti reflector coating, which would have added another 80 or so.
>>
Steampunk hasn't died yet, so I'm willing to bet this fad will cling to its miserable existence for quite some time.
>>
I feel bad for liking those square bulky frames. Not because I'm a "hurddurr hipsturr" it's just that I have a very round, flat face and the glasses help balance it. I own a plano pair. Obv I wouldn't think to make a cosplay or a lolita coord with them, but sheesh. I really don't get the hate. Also

When I was in school, I was fucking shunned.
I wasn't even a fucking loud weeaboo, all I did was show interest in anime whenever I met another person who like that ind of shit.
Now every fucking kid and their mother is running around going LOL I LIKED ANIME/COMICS ALL ALONG HAR HAR HAR WHY ARE MANGAS BACKWARDS??? XD XD XD XD

Jesus fucking christ
>>
>>6994232 (OP)
Why must every hipster cosplay use realD 3D glasses with the lenses popped out.
>>
>>6994377
Get a laser operation. $2k, permanent fixed eyevision.
>>
>>6994407
I also know this feel. I was a tomboy who was really into star wars and dragon ballz. They didn't make a lot of clothes for the things I liked for girls, so everyone always called me a lesbian. Had really bad vision and astigmatism so I had (and still technically do) thick rim glasses to hold my impossibly thick glasses. I had rocks thrown at me all the time. At least I didn't have braces though...
>>
>>6994377
I find they suit me more more than wire frames too, because I have small eyes and a relatively big nose and mouth, and they take the focus away from my nose especially.
>>
>>6994348
They can actually tell that stuff- is it like by an eye test or a physical examination? Your eyes are surely worse than mine but I feel your pain.
I wear contacts anymore.. but I have backup glasses I'm too embarrassed to wear because back in high school, of the accusations of "hipster" ran rampant when I ran out of contacts and had to where them while waiting for the order to come in.

I ended up with the pair in an attempt to get the biggest but least grandma-ish glasses possible, in an experiment to see if things would be better (also to balance big Polish nose), but instead everything looks sort of like a fisheye lense without the black edges.

The funny thing is they're from a line by fuckin Randy Jackson. Oh yes. Sooo hipster.
>>
>>6994452

>>
Ugh I know the feel. I was too smart as a kid. In middle school I tried to explain my long thought out philosophy to the other girls that no one is exactly "normal" and that everyone is weird in their own special way. So yeah a bunch of stupid, bratty middle schoolers didn't take that well. They followed me to my locker and tore out all my stuff and threw it down the hall. Later that week one grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled so hard it ripped. Then when they found out I liked Digimon dear god....

But hell it made me a stronger, wiser person today. Kids have it so easy today with all the political correctness.
>>
>>6994428
Also, that being said, I personally wear a pair of black ray-bans.. Not wayfarer, but close enough.

Fuck the police. It's a timeless model and it looks good. I've never had anyone act poorly because of my glasses.

>>6994427
Because of their size and their availability.
>>
>>6994350
But steampunk is a legitimate subculture, and has plenty of room for creativity, and is an established genre in books/movies/comics/what the fuck ever.

Hipster is just a stupid fad.
>>
As a wearer of glasses, I find fashion glasses (lenses popped out/non prescription) mildly annoying. For the longest time, everyone I knew who needed glasses either didn't wear them because their eyesight wasn't so bad, or got contacts. But I realize that glasses are an accessory now, so I don't waste my breath complaining about it.

Though I do find it interesting that people are now so eager to have glasses (whether or not they actually need it). Aren't we a species that strives for perfection? Bad eyesight is an imperfection if I ever saw one. What's next? Fashion braces?
>>
>>6994512
>Fashion braces?
I take it you don't listen to a lot of hip-hop
>>
>>6994512
I think what you're feeling is artificial.
Assuming when you say "for the longest time," you're referring to your past, and particularly your past when you were younger.
Kids and young teens generally don't like wearing glasses. They're annoying, they get in the way, and when you want to romp around and play they can be a nuisance. Not to mention they're expensive.

When I was little I had a lazy eye and had to wear an eyepatch for a couple years. After that glasses for a year or two because my right eye was bad. I hated it the entire time. I thought they were dorky and ugly. And I feared being judged by all the rest of my friends without glasses. When I had glasses they were a constant burden because I had to make sure they weren't lost or damaged.

As an adult I don't need glasses. But I still wear fashion frames and contacts because for me it's not about being judged by others or having frames interfere with what I want to do. I still haven't met a younger kid that enjoys glasses 100%, and generally the only teenagers I've seen who actually enjoy them are the ones who shop at Hot Topic and enjoy trendy shit to begin with.

That's why this whole thing pisses me off so much, too. When I was a kid I got picked on for wearing glasses and now suddenly it's cool?
>>
>>6994545
You make a good point. As a kid my mom told me to leave my glasses in class during recess, but I hated not being able to see shit so I broke/lost many pairs back then. My eyesight degenerated very quickly, so perhaps I'm just projecting my necessity for wearing glasses, since I don't think I know anyone who has eyesight as bad as I do.

I guess what's most annoying to me about fashion glasses are the ones with no lenses. Or fucking sunglasses with the lenses popped out. Because, truthfully, you don't know if lenses have a prescription or not, unless you ask.

Yes, it is. Have you BEEN to Austin? It's tragically hip. But it's not what you apparently think it is. Because it's not just 'movie theatre glasses with the lenses popped out'. Do you really think anyone who is the least bit ~hip would dress up like the opening line of a T-Swift video?

Said everyone ever. Get over it OP. It'll pass.

It's so weird. Ever since school I would always pick the thinnest pair of glasses possible so that I wouldn't stand out more than I did (I also have Tourettes and an outside-country accent at the time, as well as being skinny as fuck and loving the vidya) but nowadays everybody wants to stand out as a "nerd". I don't have a problem with new people taking up our hobbies (I'm not THAT much of an elitist) but I can't wait for the "nerdz Iz kool" trend to be over.

>>
>>6994433
Oh my god you are me, minus the stigmatism. Had super thick glasses though. Sometimes my mom would get my hair cut super short and people would ask if I was a boy
>>
Larger-rimmed glasses looked kinda neat until this whole hipster thing got blown out of proportion. They're not really anything special anymore.

I have terrible eyesight and have to wear glasses. I don't get along well with contacts, but I don't mind the glasses. It just makes it difficult to choose when you're trying to avoid looking like a fad, while also trying to avoid looking ugly.
I have a very round face, so squarer lenses have helped me out a bit. But luckily I've found a balance between square-round-thick-think-whatever to suit my face without coming off as hipster.
I will likely get laser surgery once I am secure in my finances. But even then, I'd be tentative to leave my glasses behind, since they help balance my face.
>Like the image of glasses
>Dislike /needing/ to wear them

Now, as a computer programmer, I often get hit with comments such as "You really look the type" or "wow you look like a nerdy girl," which are only spawned by their noticing my glasses. It's not a /bad/ thing, as it's mildly accurate--but not something I enjoy.
>>
>>6994407
Know that feeling. Like I didn't talk about comics all that much as a kid or anything but people knew that I liked them and I'd regularly get people calling me illiterate for reading "picture-books" but now people (some of which were the ones who gave me shit as a kid) are asking for recommendations now that Batman and The Avengers are cool
>>
>>6995203
I've heard Austin is the new Portland
