I have a 13 year old sister who's obsessed with Homestuck to the point where she always wants to go out cosplaying as her character...Is there anything I can do to tell her and convince her that this sort of behavior is unacceptable and embarrassing to the people around her?

The other day she went to the mall with her friend who is dressed like any normal kid would be, and I see my sister leave the house in full blown cosplay attire (minus grey skin)...

Today she was going out with my mom to some seafood festival and she wanted to be dressed up yet again, my mom tried telling her as kindly as possible no, and to dress normally , next thing I hear is my sister throwing a tamper tantrum, crying, and just doesn't understand that you don't cosplay 24/7...

Also, nightly reminder to stay properly hydrated at conventions :3
>>
I feel bad for your mom. Does she even understand what Homestuck is?
>>
Wonder why you didn't prevent this in the first place.
>>
Give her free run of the internet, encourage her to post videos/photos of her wearing her cosplay to the mall etc, and then sit back and wait for everyone else to tell her how stupid she looks.
>>
Why does it matter what she dresses like?
>>

Nope, neither do I to be honest (just the bare minimum).

I moved out of my house last year and visit every other weekend and had recently discovered this obsession. Anytime my mom or myself try to tell her she needs to chill out with this cosplaying she goes into typical 13 year old tantrum mode.

I think the irony of this is, she got the idea to cosplay in public because of youtube videos. I tried asking her why she dresses up even though none of her friends do it, and her excuse was WELL EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT!! and I asked "who" Her response was she sees people on youtube do it lol...
>>
Let her be embarrassing now if she's just dressing up and not trying to act in-character or anything. Realistically, she'll probably be embarrassed by herself within the next year and move onto some new obsession too.
>>
It's a phase. All of us do some questionable things at 13-16. Stuff that even just a couple of years later we look back on and cringe.

You did right by telling her there is a time and a place for such things but then back off and let her grow up. She'll do her thing and then wonder how could she be so immature and stupid in just a few months.
>>
Which Homestuck character is she dressing as? If it's Terezi or Karkat there's... really nothing that wrong with it, no more than anything else someone'd do at 13 years old. If it's Eridan we have problems.

>>6900194
this exactly. When I was 13 i thought it was a cool idea to write self-insert Sailor Moon fic and wear cat ears to school. I cringe looking back but I also remember my parents encouraging me to NOT do that, and now I'm really grateful to them.
>>
Post pictures of her in a cosplay fap thread. Show her the replies, then show her pictures of the sort of neckbeards who would say those things.

If that doesn't put her off, then can I have her phone number?
>>
>>6900203
I believe it's Eridan, since her wig is black with purple hair in the center, and her shirt has two horizontal squiggly lines in parallel.
>>
There's no hope, OP. Time to put your sister down. Try not to be discouraged, thirteen years is a pretty good run.
>>
>>6900190
What this anon said, she has to realise for herself how embarrassing/inappropriate she's being. But you should also meticulously document all of the most embarrassing aspects of her behaviour so that you can ensure she wont just fandom hop and repeat it at a later date.
>>
>>6900218
Fuck. Eridan was worst case scenario.

But don't worry. She really will grow out of it provided you make sure she doesn't have the chance to ONLY associate with other weird people. Make sure you and the rest of her family present a normal enough front (even better if you're geeky but can conceal powerlevels) and that she doesn't drop any hobbies that let her interact with people who aren't homestucks.
>>
>>6900218
Ahhahah jesus christ, does she wear the cape and the scarf too?
>>
I'm not sure if this is on par, or worse than people who think they're being creative kawaii individuals by wearing furry cat ears and tails
>>
dude, she's 13. 13 year olds are kind of retarded. since most of this homestuck shit seems to be wearing a shirt with a zodiac symbol, keep her to that or pins and crap.
she'll grow out of it.
>>
you should take candid pictures of her when she's wearing the get up and share it with her and say "this is what you look like and going out into public places outside of the convention scene will earn you looks and even mockery"
>>
Beat it out of her.
>>
Fuck her in the ass while dressed as a Housestick guy or whatever
>>
One time I tried to leave the house in cosplay and my grandma beat me. It hurt then, but looking back, I am soo glad she did that.

She'll learn her lessons. I get that she's your sister but she's thirteen. Tons of people wore and did stupid shit when they were thirteen. And I'm sure anyone reasonable who would tilt their head in wonder at her attire in public would just write it off as stupid kiddie bullshit instead of causing an even bigger scene over some candy corn horns and weird clothes.

Reminds me of when I went through my 'hurrdurr all is dark and dead' goth phase and I refused to wear anything other than black and bondage pants. Greasy hair that I 'straightened' with gel, oh and tons of pic related.
>Bwuhuh don't snap my black jellies gies, srsly you'll have to have sex with me :3
Ugh.
>>
>>6900305
We all know it doesn't always stop after Jr.High. PT, Peacock Feather, Ashely, Chris-Chan
Op has a reason to be worried
>>
>>6900310
But all of those people have some form of mental impairment.
>>
>>6900316
Those are just the worst of the bunch, I assure you there are people who act like this well into their 20's
