First time cosplaying and planning to cosplay as Villager from the new Smash Bros. I got the red shirt, the black shorts and the green socks (how I managed to find them, I have no clue), and the problem I come across is the shirt design, am I better off getting some fabric and cutting then stitching the "1" on there or should I get some paint and paint the shirt, if the latter, is there any special paint like for clothing to design the shirt?

Any advice?

I might even do the balloon man helmet as well.

i was literally playing this game 2 minutes ago before i saw this thread wtf

Maybe look into this?

You sound new so I am going to tell you to paint.
Use the wax paper method for clean lines.

Forgot link... http://makeyourowngarments.com/ You can design an iron on transfer here.

Personally, I would not recommend paint, especially for new cosplayers. Unless they are experienced, the lines can get a little shaky and awkward. Seeing as this is a very basic design, I would go with an iron on transfer.

A proper Villager cosplay is going to require a mascot costume. wearing a shirt and shorts isn't enough. You'll just be another closet cosplayer.

I'm thinking about doing a Villager in the future. Any guides/tutorials on making mascot faces that would be suitable for it?

For t-shirts I have been planning on just sending a design into a site that lets you make your own shirt and buying it from there.
Haven't tried it yet, but /cgl/ has told me it is a decent method.

If you want to sew, google how to make an applique. There are lots of tutorials.

I'm just doing this for fun, but I am planning to make the head sometime next year.

Use an iron on decal maybe? You can get paper which you can use in your printer to make it.
>>
Yeah get an iron on transfer, which can usually be found at art craft stores like Michael's (hell you might even find some at Walmart but no gurantees) and choose the ones for colored or dark shirts. All you do is follow instructions, get an image of a one with a fully white background, and print.

It's pretty easy to do and looks neat if you know how to cut straight.

>Villager from the new Smash Bros
...You realize he's not a new character, right? The 4th Animal Crossing game just came out. This is Marth and Roy all over again.
>>
>>6910583
they never said he was... they said the new SMASHBROS aka the new smashbros game coming out...
>>

Just to add on to this, any office supply stores like Staples have them, in the custom/special printer paper aisles where stickers and such are, and they're usually significantly cheaper than Michael's.

I use them all the time, and they look really good, But for daily wear, I find after 10 washes or so the design can start to peel or crinkle a bit. A 1-time cosplay would be totally fine, though.

Nice! Thank you for that.

That looks wrong. The vertical part of the 1 looks thicker on OP's picture.

The angle makes it look larger than it is.
Here's a more straight-on view.
>>

Hmm, it's close, the top part of the 1 should be a little taller like the picture, or bring down that middle horizontal line of the 1 lower to make it look taller. Easy fix though.

That would be fabric paint. You should be able to find it anywhere that sells a lot of material and craft stuff.

I second the person that suggested an iron-on, too. That is really gonna be the quickest and easiest way to do it. If you get good quality paper for it, it'll stand up to washing, too.
